Guild Wars 2

Let’s share some good ol’ WvW stories. Here’s one of my favorites:

Our server had taken the enemy garrison, and was intent on draining the supplies and hitting Hills next. I was on my thief, and I usually don’t follow the zerg if I play thief. I stuck around for a bit longer than I should have, and the enemy zerg returns, as angry as a hornet’s nest. They flip their keep back, and start hunting out stragglers like myself.

A mesmer gets killed inside the keep, so the commander asks me to stick around and revive the mesmer after the zerg leaves. But, I get stuck in combat, meaning I don’t get the chance to change my traits or swap weapons. I’m doing the best I can to spam all the stealth skills I have, trying to remain hidden. I can’t ‘perma-stealth’ and the zerg is going by ear, listening for my pistol shots to get my location.

Finally another roamer – a warrior – spots me, just as I have run out of stealth skills again. I stood alone, knowing my fate was met. I had no escape, no stealth, trapped in enemy garrison, and an angry zerg nearby. And I was still in combat. I was basically ready to surrender, but instead of rushing my death, the warrior bows. I bow in return, and leap at him, ready to go down fighting. One of the best fights I’ve had, (also trying to avoid every flippin npc’ in that keep) and just when there was a ray of hope…

The enemy zerg steamrolls the duel. I was dead in a split second. But honestly, it wasn’t a total lost. I was such a nasty pain in the neck, I distracted the them long enough to guarantee my server to flip their hills. How I managed to survive that long in the keep, and keep them occupied, (and why they decided to go after a thief instead of a zerg) is a mystery to me…

This was before the Righteous Indignation nerf on supervisors/lords.

30 Seconds after capping watercamp i stood there pretending afk – saw 3 thieves incoming all stealthed, after 2 seconds i did some evades/dodges just to see the 3 tools being downed by the supervisor. Really made my day as a ranger being. Notsofreekill.

Before the warrior banner rez train was a thing, I stealth-rezzed lords and supervisors on my thief so many times it wasn’t even funny anymore!

The enemy steam-rolled the camp, already dancing, thinking “yes, we flipped a fully upgraded camp, we are so great”, watching the capture bar tick towards 100%. Then, all of a sudden, there is that thief de-stealthing next to the dead supervisor! The next second the supervisor is back up, the capture bar resets and there is a friendly army charging in to push out the enemy! This became only that much sweeter if you actually saved a keep or garrison/stone mist that way!

It took a few weeks for most people to catch on to what was happening. People started to pay attention to that hostile stealth field out of nowhere dropping on the supervisor, and the super’s health bar ticking up all of a sudden! They usually started to drop AOE on the super and swinging at empty air, which made the stealth rez game quite challenging towards the end.

A close second would be the hours I spend tagging a keep’s gate to keep the waypoint contested. Makes for some great chase scenes when the angry owners try to catch you. Our guild leader started to relay me some of the nasty whispers he got about “that f-ing thief of yours who keeps tagging our Hills!”

3v20 during BWE

This game is basically made to make weird stories. I’ve got alot of them but I’m not sure they would be so funny here on the forums. This game gave me alot of fun moments though. Most of them includes Osicat, the annoying little mesmer with a forum sticky, that everybody thinks is a girl because he keeps leaving his voice out of his recordings. He’s a fully bearded father that rides motorbikes, and everybody refers to him as “she” whenever they see my guild tag and asks about “her”. That, in itself, is freaking hilarious.

Also that feeliong when you have friends whispering from the opposite server and you been annoying their server with a 5 man havoc squad for 3 hours they start getting kittened off.

“Lol you should switch borders mate, map chat is going nuts. They are saying that these ‘Judge dudes just won’t die!! Please kill them!’”

“The commander is going hunting you guys beware, the entire zerg is coming for you!”

Those moments I do love.

I had one happen recently, a server had a waypoint in our BLs hill keep and somehow we ended up inside outer before getting zerged, I was on my thief (troll-invis condi build) so I managed to hide inside. They repaired the wall.

My server kept trying and trying to take down this keep and I was inside, killing anyone I could and trolling people with caltrops whilst invisible.

I was in there for 3 hours (I also, very badly needed to relieve myself since I had 7 cups of coffee a few hours earlier so those 3 hours were not a breeze), I racked up about 20 kills, around 10 of which were done by stealing this one necromancers fear and using it on people near the cliffside.

I got a handful of whispers from people calling me a cheater (they blocked me so I couldn’t reply) and ended up having a conversation with a few other enemies that I had killed in there, made friends with them and shared build info etc.

Anyway, 3 hours of being inside this keep and all the while, my server was relentlessly attacking against enemies that outnumbered them and they finally got inside, capped it and it was the most satisfying victory we’d had in a long time. Especially for my bladder.

When I first moved up to T2, I was running with a 15 man skill group that waded into a zerg 3+ times their size. Unlike in lower tiers, I got exploded in seconds. Watching that group annihilate a strong zerg as a corpse was inspiring. Not a best for me but a humbling one.

3 days after buying a tag I use at least 100+ sup rams, 50 sup acs, 10 omegas etc.. On the third day I got my first precursor (Carcharias sold for 190g).

Awhile back, I had one of the best fights ever in WvW. A half hour long fight against a pretty skilled celestial staff ele. I caught them offguard before they could switch to a different weapon, and even if we got each other very low, neither of us could kill the other.

IT would have gone forever, if it didn’t become a 2v1 and the celestial ele choosing to flee. A shame I never got the chance to fight them again.

One of my first, guarding danelon supply in EB for 22 hours straight. Of course this was LONG before the game became a MASSIVE zerg fest

got stuck in a hostile smc, inner area, ended up being chased around the whole place by a dozen warriors. was using my rifle engi and just drew them up to the top floor of inner. whenever i could i just threw elixir s to stealth and launched a curious warrior right off the edge. took a good hour to kill most of them and shake the rest (and i only shook them because three of them worked together and used stomp, fear me, and kick to knock me off the edge) ,but it was certainly fun.

One time I managed to blockade hills all by myself. Their squishy casters kept trying to run to hills by themselves 1 by 1. I probably killed an upwards of 15 eles, necros and mesmers on my s/d thief in the time it took for hills to he capped.

My guild and I have had some majorly epic defenses. Battles lasting anywhere from 18 hours to 21 hours, to 23 hours. I really cannot pick a single favorite, but the ones that stand out are: Langor Gulch, where the battling lasted ‘on and off’ for eighteen hours. A battle we had at Durios Gulch, pretty much non-stop between TWO offenders that wanted to steal it from us, that battle lasted about twenty-one hours! Then there was Ogrewatch Tower, which was somewhere around twenty-two/twenty-three hours of non-stop craziness (and actually where, if I’m not mistaken, my guild earned it’s defending reputation [it became more known server-wide who we were {we are and were actually a small guild}]). And of course there was the instance of my one buddy and I camping at the Danelon supply camp for 22 hours back when the game launched, we just had to make sure our fortifications got their supply and upgrades!

Ah the good old days, the memories that will be there forever. Too bad now the game is nothing more than a huge zerg fest. At this point all we can do is reminisce about when people used to actually PLAY WvW. My guild and I [about 10] would protect our camp, escort our yaks, do our upgrades, get our tower fully upgraded and supply stacked up. Then siege it up and wait for someone to come ‘n try to take it. Then a group of people would finally show up to take it, and actually try to get it. Other people were actually doing the same too! Offenders would not just tuck tail and run away because they faced the slightest bit of resistance (like now-a-days/ktraining/zerging). When and if we wiped them, they’d send in another group (because people actually ran multiple groups, instead of one BLOB), or come back themselves to continue to try for it. Oh,, the good ole days…

Now, since I guess that makes me an old man:

GET OFF MY GRASS

First day of WvW, I was in EotM waiting for my turn in the queue.

I find myself engaging an enemy player on the top of a structure. He pushes/stuns me and jumps down to escape. I use Balanced Stance because I’m a newb, and pursue him on the bridge. I land a couple of hits (and I’m surprised when I see they do a lot of damage), he pushes me off the bridge (stability had run out).
I survive, because there is a “platform” of solid ground under that portion of the bridge.

I know it’s in no way epic, but it was my first encounter and it felt exciting. When the guy pushed me off the bridge I wasn’t even upset, my thoughts were more along the lines of “I totally deserved to fall to my death” and “Nice one buddy” xD

I honestly feel that all my best moments in this game have come from WvW. Every time I play there I remember how much fun this game can be. My favorite times are those when we (always being outnumbered) hold off big zergs from taking objectives. I think my favorite ONE time was about 15 of us in SMC, holding off an ARMY of golems and the zerg that went with it. We prevailed, and that was the most epic fight I can remember.
