I think WvW is far from dead and we should all accept that the game is aging and I do think ANet did some good jobs here and there last year. We should encourage them because at least it’s improving. Try to be less toxic and stay on facts.

10 months ago there’s a thread Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

I like the idea and I would like to revisit my own list.

1. More communication with your community.

I am not sure if I like the idea of polling, because it would look like they’re pushing the decision responsibility on players who voted, and we players cannot see numbers and data one would need to make a decision. However I do think they did communicate with us more than previous years, checking on the forum, which is a good thing anyway. Of course they could always do better in this regard though.

2. Professions and skills balance around WvW.

I know it’s still in a bad state, but they did do something about stability and boon share, they’re certainly improvement. This would be my new top priority, of course.

3. Reward track similar to PvP so that WvW could be self-sustained, i.e. players should be able to earn everything they need in WvW (e.g. equipment, consumable, guild upgrades, etc), rather than going to PvE to collect things you could only earn from PvE, especially for those HoT maps. You did this for Hero Points, and the others should also be considered. You could try to attract players from PvE to WvW, but please, not the other way around. WvW already has serious population issue.

Reward track was added, though I feel the progress for the reward is way too slow comparing to PvP.

Items we could only get from HoT maps, were now available with Proof of Heroics with Provisions Master. This was a huge improvement in my opinion. It’s too crazy to farm those stupid tokens in those PvE maps, wasting time.

We could use some more WvW abilities though. What about WvW mastery like PvE? I don’t mean to have more grindings, but the two systems should probably be merged in some way and WvW players could certainly use auto-looting mastery. Maybe this could also attract some people to come WvW earning some mastery points, with more WvW achievements and titles.

And of course, ascended armors and weapons. PvP players don’t need them but have them as rewards, there are no reasons to not add them into WvW.

I still think WvW is somehow an end-game content, and it’s silly that we cannot reliably earn end-game equipment playing end-game content. Raid and fractals are selling ascended equipment, why there’s no equivalent in WvW? We even have WvW infusions, and not to mention we do sell exotic equipment from the beginning, which was the top-tier equipment back then.

Rewards might not attract new players because they could earn more rewards from playing other contents (as always), but this does show how ANet thinks which contents deserve more attentions. Players need to know if ANet really cares, or we lose hope and end up with toxic conversations.

Of course nothing happened here.

As for population issues. They cannot be addressed directly because you can’t just force players come in WvW. We could observe the population as a result of improvements, not the other way around. I do think server linking is a smart move, too.

1. Profession overhaul/balance ( I feel like most professions are on an equal playing field but the combat is boring as kitten, and now that the are willing to balance PvP seperately they need to undue some of the kitten changes they made for PvP/PvE’s sake. Confusion passive tick is a perfect example.)
2. Skill Lag
3.Equal rewards (shouldn’t have to leave WvW to unlock rewards tracks or get ascended gear)
4. Fix the kittening obstructed/no valid path bug
5. Add an internal cooldown to retal

WvW priorities for 2017:
0- Mac client that doesn’t crash every 5 minutes
1- Class and skill balance for a new fight meta as fun as GW2 was on release
2- Total merging of all servers in 3 alliance
3- Guild ranking and a sophisticated stats system
4- a Dynamic scoring system that makes it possible for losing servers to catch up until the very end of the matchup
5- Maps: EotM becomes part of WvW as a 5th map – A new 3rd Borderland map is added: a smaller king of the hill map built around fights

If WvW is core to GW2 then have better communication with the players on the forums, fix known bugs with the maps quickly to show us that you treat WvW as core to GW2. Stop shifting WvW resources to the next PvE release so that only the easy and quick fixes get released in WvW. Invest in WvW. Fix the lag issues. If you can’t fix lag when it’s 80v80, but it works good enough when it’s 50v50 then change the map cap to 50. Apart from fixing bugs and general improvements to infrastructure I’d leave WvW alone. Constantly fiddling about with the format is the problem not the solution. Settle on a ruleset and a scoring system and then leave it at that. Let the people who enjoy it play and let those who don’t leave.

By all means add another “end game” mode as well as WvW if the resources are there and someone has a concept worth trying – that’s a good option for an expansion – but after four years there is no realistic chance of revamping the existing WvW format into something that will draw in large numbers of players (either former or first-time).

This is an MMORPG. MMOs don’t grow and expand after four years. They contract and shrink. Plan accordingly.

-Skill balance that is actually focused on WvW, not pvp or pve. Conditions, power creep, stealth, resurrections, cc’s, all of these things need to be addressed. Fights are just not fun anymore with the current state of “class balance”. They need to focus on counter play, and not trying to load up every class with as much X as possible.

-Lag, Lag, and more Lag, we cannot do anything when we are constantly lagging, freezing up, and dc’ing. It has gotten to the point where I can be standing by myself at spawn and get ping spikes up to 5k, and yet do not get this kind of lag in pve, and my internet runs fine elsewhere. It is always wvw that causes issues.

-Revert 2/1/1, absolutely stupid change that encourages less activity in a game mode hemorrhaging players

-Fix bugs, glitches, exploits. For gods sake we have the same bugs and other issues that never get fixed or even acknowledged.

-Lower map caps. This can help reduce lag, spread out the population to other maps, and make it easier to deal with blobbing.

-Do not base upcoming skirmish rewards on server performance, base it on individual contribution so that everyone can earn the rewards and not be subjected to timezone gaps and population limitations. Treat these rewards as part of a long term reward structure that can be used for something like ascended gear. Similar to how we have reward tracks as a short term reward. It can work something like awarding a certain amount of tokens based on an individuals contribution during a skirmish which can be saved up to earn rewards.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

1: Skill lag.

2: Bug fixes. Stuck in Wall bug, lootbag port bug, obstructed/no valid path, out of range bug.

3: Lower defenders advantage: Lower siege damage. Remove: Minor Supply Drop, Chilling Fog, Invulnerable Dolyaks, Dune Roller, Centaur Banner, Turtle Banner, Dragon Banner, Emergency Waypoint, Invulnerable Fortifications, Airship Defense, Hardened Siege, Auto Turrets, Presence of the Keep, Cloaking Waters, Hardened Gates and Guild Objective Auras . It was already hard taking keeps before HoT, we didn’t need this at all. It only ruined this game mode. It has gotten so stale and almost impossible to take an enemy keep if they got a few people using all these buffs + siege.

4. WvW focused skill balancing.

5. Ascended reward system. Make us able to aquire ascended rewards throug playing WvW, which is equally good to what you get in PvE, and PvP. Which means selectable stats, triple infusion slot on ascended rings and a legendary back skin for WvW.

2. Skill balance specific for wvw game mode
3. Skill lag – reduce map caps or all the kitten the server needs to compute. Some days lately wvw is unplayable.
4. Unique ascended rewards for wvw plus rewards for long term wvw players
5. Fix the memory leak that causes the crippling wp bug and degradation of character rendering .

1) UNDO LAST SCORING CHANGE!
2) Tone down condi and Epi ( mesmer and necro’s sort of op a bit)
3) Better reward tracks with Superior/guild siege and better stuff
4) If a server wins a week give them something random and cool they can win
5) Take out the middle are of the desert bls since laser event doesn’t exist anymore and resize and move around stuff to be distances almost like it is on the alpine maps.

Make HoT skills/traits available for all. WvW vendor with HoT-sigils/runes for all. I don’t have HoT expansion, and I actually need only WvW skills/traits/builds from the expansion.

HoT costs 45 euros. I had to skip recent discount too.

1.) Lag-Currently, the game is not very playable and I have no clue why. I tried all the little tricks I normally do and it goes away. This time, no luck and it seems various players are notifying anet they are experiencing lag. Acknowledge it, not ignore the various postings on the subject.

2.) Skill balance and diversity. This game has become incredibly dull and boring relating to roaming and fights in general. Players are running around with an huge health pools while dishing out insane damage condi and power wise. Invulnerability skills need a serious look over. Players shouldn’t be able to block block block block block invulnerable invulnerable block block block.

3.) Boon duration and availability. Too many builds are using this as a crutch and should use skill rather than autopilot mode. Get back to making certain skills exclusive to certain classes.

4.) The desert BL needs more work badly to be fully accepted. Running….running….and more running. It’s mundane and the center of the map is completely useless and empty. Put something interesting there, NOT PVE elements.

5.) A communicated work plan with the wvw public. We need to know that anet is going to deliver and not just over hype and promise things that they either don’t have the staff for or just don’t have the skilled staff to create. Transparency basically, we felt strung along when we’ve given you years of recommendations and you tube videos on broken aspects of the game. Not only build wise but bugs that have been around forever. Polls are not acceptable, communicating with the forums is.

1. Get rid of arrow carts and shield Generators – PERIOD!!!

2. revert scoring

3. balance condi vs power better (make sure AoE rings cannot overlap and compound application).

4. Stop coddling the top 6 servers and ungroup them all – make them solo servers.

5. The bigger the zerg the bigger debuff they get. Put a debuff in WvW for big groups.

  1. Provide more diversity in WvW : gameplay, builds, and discourage k-trains.
  2. Solve server population inbalance issues : maps are too big so reduce the number of tiers.
  3. Make rewards better : specific skins, WvW rewards etc. Make rewards depend on possession and score.
  4. Make WvW a PPT centered game mode, and create a game mode focused on pointless fights : self-explanatory.
  5. Solve lag issues.

Remove/Nerf radars
Reduce the zerging aspect
Lower the server cap again so there’s no more lag
Balance skills out ( Solely for wvw ),there’s too many noob friendly builds in wvw currently
Bring in a way to earn ascended armor/weapons by either gaining a certain amount of wxp points or by having an x amount of kills or in any other way,something for wvwers to work towards and actually have a goal to set.

Skill/Build balance

Aside from the usual concerns about large group combat, I think the current roaming meta builds are waaaay too good at what they do. It is literally impossible to catch a thief that wants to escape. There needs to be some risk for a thief to engage rather than just being able to spam shortbow and dodge out of range whenever they take damage.

Similarly, Invuln Zerker is far too forgiving and strong in 1v1. With my Rifle Engi, I can’t CC them because of things like Last Stand, Eternal Champion, and their boatloads of resistance. Meanwhile, they’re healing 1k+ per second passively while putting out top tier damage and armour.

I’m not asking for perfect 1v1 balance, but I am asking for counterplay. I would like to be able to engage those builds and have a good fight rather than never being able to actually catch them (thief) or being forced to run (war).

1. Remove downstate or heavily nerf it (people whine about passive defenses, well here you have the biggest offender, small groups have a better chance to beat larger groups with this)

2. Remove AoE-cap on offensive skills (why the kitten would stacking be a valid counter to AoE?? Small groups would actually have a much better chance)

3. Remove or nerf ACs (half of WvW atm might be playing with a lvl 2 upscaled character cause all they do atm is ACing anyway)

4. Incentivize people to play during more hours, neither me nor my group gives 2 kittens about the score for our server, but when the winner has already been determined on monday, finding anyone at all to fight is rather hard

5. Do something about the truly ridicilous amount of passive/active evades/invulns/blocks/similar effects in the game (the passive elixir S, 7 roll dodges in a row from thieves, passive endure pain, the entire mesmer sword/shield set, DH f3+Renewed Focus+f3). Having to wait 10 seconds before I can damage my enemy again is just, boring. While on the topic, passive stunbreaks/stabilities are also pretty dumb as they often save people without the person themself doing much.

BONUS: Nerf builds that are extremely low risk very high reward (basically anythhing that can get out of any position no matter how bad you kitten up)

EXTRA BONUS: Add some sort of dimnishing effects to all hard or semi-hard CC (stun/daze/immob/fear/whatever else and maybe a cap to how many times you can get launched/knockbacked/pushed within a certain period of time), no reason one should be able to get stuck in immob/stun chains for a good 5-10 seconds in a row.

The unrealistic list:

1. Population Balance – Magically fix what no other MMO has been able to do
2. Overhaul Condi so it isn’t all or nothing
3. Gut passive defense and eliminate multipliers
4. Create tangible rewards for winning a week
5. Create bonus incentives for 2nd/3rd servers to go after a “winning” server

1 make eotm an overflow map, not an alternative
2 undo the cc nerf, since stability got a buff
3 remove cleave, lower aoe cap on other skills
4 buff useless traits/skills to be usable
5 grub mount for commanders

Team Deathmatch for PvP – Raise the AoE cap for WvW – More unique events for PvE

1) population cant be balanced in siege games that emplies dozens of players, this is a propriety of the genra, so they need to compensate with a good structure and mechanics, besides pvd, wich is almost what ive done, while the other server is sleeping and then they ktrain back when they have more population.

2) reduce lag, maybe by reducing every AA to 1 target for a start, and other cleave skills to 2 targets.
(this would balance a bit the damage ouput spam).

3) rewards… cappign structure no longer gives rewards, Guilds and groups need to hold stuff, rewards would come for tick point while group or guild is holding the structure, in reduced quantity but increased quality.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

1. Incentive for winning a match/end of week/rankings
2. Population balance/timezone coverage
3. Skill/class balance (spruce up existing skills, change things around for fresh fight gameplay)
4. Server lag/skill lag
5. Ascended gear acquisition on par with PvP/PvE (can use existing currency like BoH or Proofs)

as shown on PvP custom as an example,
the ideal scenario is you cannot enter a match when the team you want to join outnumbers the enemy

thats where the population balancing on a match or skirmish kicks in

as ive read somewhere, queue starts when a team outnumbers other team’s number by 1

on PvP there are custom lobby where players automatically transferred to the blue team for win at the end of the match

on WvW the one who is the most Badwaggoned and Stacked servers manually wins

thats the difference between ideal and reality…
thats the difference between impossible and a possibility….

1. Prof/Skill Balance- CRITICAL
2. Population Balance or possible overhaul and server merge
3. Server/lag/bug fixes
4. Cut down siege
5. Shrink desert borderland-vertically and horizontally

I actually like the scoring changes and the skirmish system. It keeps scores more closer and competitive. It’s been said that it’s easier to implement and make changes with it, since all that is done is adjust the numbers.

Server linking, I find, just imbalances populations even more. I doubt many people would miss it.

And you know what? Keep DBL. It looks nice. What I would do is shrink it so it doesn’t take so LONG to navigate! Those that say otherwise don’t take into account the elevation, which just adds more time.

1. Population Balance – Magically fix what no other MMO has been able to do

No other MMO fixes it perfectly, but a WvW system where players have a designated home world that also allows transfers is literally the worst possible system when it comes to population balance, it is also terrible at coping with a declining population, there are other games that do a much better job in these respects.

They copied their megaserver on ESO when it came out (without the complex quest phasing system), but forgot about WvW and ESO’s campaign guesting, which would be similar to what you’re talking about.

That would be a terrible nerf to light classes which are already having a hard time competing with heavy classes just doing as much or more damage.

This doesn’t make sense at all,what does light classes have to do with downed mode ? Or are you suggesting that you as a light class spend a whole lotta time in downed mode where rallying is what saves you ?

Anyhow,the last few roamers around might understand where i’m coming from for listing that.

6. Get rid of this linking system. While it did make other servers useful, it’s a magnet for transfer galore since there are no penalties for it. Heck, you can even get away with a transfer without shelling out cash. Either make the transfers heftier as a penalty or outright put penalties and make the time table for relinking faster, in that way, you make the transferrer think carefully since it might all go away the next week.

  • Trim downstate in some form
  • Gliding (for everyone in wvw maps)
  • New tricks and traps
  • Improved camp guards (skillbars and a new skirmisher guard with anti-stack ai)
  • Improved wall defending mechanics (better “archer” positions, new guild tactic for tops of walls grant a guardian like aegis effect but for stability)
