Your opinion about hackers?
It’s sad, but true. There are always hackers, but at least they should get a perma ban.
I’ve never encountered hackers .-.

Are you or have you ever been in the employment of Anet?
Sorry, it just seemed like the auto response Anet would give – Aka bury head in the sand and if I don’t see them then they don’t exist.

you are lucky. there are bugs, hacks but a lot of cheater have enough brain to not use them when others around (there is a radar hack when minimap shows enemys)
and there is hacks what u cant see. like the radar and the infinity initiative for thieves etc

Imagine for a moment…
A player see strange behaviour and go “gasp, that must a hack or something!”. He report the offending player as a suspected hacker. A game master, or “GM” if you want, take up the ticket, identify the player and check his activities for a short while. Lo and behold, he’s warping all over the place as per known hacks. 1m video recorded and sent with a report to Anet while the suspected hacker is banned for 5 days on the spot. Any repeated offense would mean perma-ban.
… then you can come back to reality and report him for botting and forget about it, because GW2 doesnt have any moderators or even a specific report for hacks.

No, but I do plan on applying as a character artist when my degree is finished next semester ;-;
They can also teleport under the map to leave combat and heal.
Thieves do this the most.
You down them with a big hitting skill, which triggers their 10% auto stealth, you auto attack them (they’re invis still), all of us a sudden, you stop hitting, they never reappear, 10-15 sec later they’re running around near you on full hp again.
If you ever get a thief low, and have a strong feeling he should be downed, then reappears on near full or full health, he’s using ‘midnight’ or w.e that hack is called.
After 1 year+5 months of protesting against the game unbalance…..
There is no Justice for those who those who are responsible for breaking the game.
This is the cause of giving them Too Much Power And Control.
Seriously, would you blame the hackers for abusing cheap design and cheap mechanics?
You and I see this every time and every day by certain classes.
I’ve come to the point of agreeing with your friend.
Your friend speak the Truth,
Perhaps you should too but not hack, but accept the Truth!

It scales unbelievably well with Healing Power, and is in a tree with both Healing and Toughness. This isn’t a hack, it’s by design. :P
In the first good half year of the game I didn’t encounter any hackers, during previous summer I slowly started to see like 1 every month. Since December I saw one every match up and now I encounter a hacker DAILY. I’ll give you some examples to why I know they were definitely hacking.
1. A desolation thief (I have his name) flew up in the air and was autoattacking me from the sky with his bow. I used my leap skill because I thought he was bugged but they brought me straight underneath the spot where he was flying.
2. Between bay and longview is a very high cliff, I saw an elementalist that I was fighting fly straight up to the top and he proceeded to laugh at me.
3. An abaddons thief, upscaled, was inside of a golem and porting from tower to tower. He did 15s to travel from ogres to anza. He came back to mendons and we were able to pin him down and squish him between 2 zergs inside the ogre camp.
4. A desolation asura thief has been for months between bay and garri, teleport hacking. We managed to down him a few times, but we couldn’t stomp because his body kept porting away. Yea multiple times, up to 5+ till we finally managed to kill him.
5. A desolation human thief (again yea) got downed aswel and he ported underneath the ground and proceeded to rezz back up. We couldn’t stomp or damage him as he was underneath the terrain.
6. A group of 5 people hacked themselves underneath the terrain and were speedhacking to towers, killing the lord from under the ground. They managed to cap and dissapeared to north camp. They capped it before we even reached it. They were all between squire and soldier rank.
Most recent one was today, a desolation ranger. He kept jumping forward, we only managed to kill him with a ton of leap skills and stuns. And we couldn’t spike because his dead body kept jumping forward.
I got way more examples and really hope Anet gives us an official response to what they are going to do about these hackers.
ps.: I have names.

I’ve seen the teleport hacks myself. I’m on the southwest tower of home borderlands, see a Mesmer on the bridge. I’m not in the mood to fight, so I shadow refuge and blinding powder to get back towards bay. I’m watching behind me during this, the mesmer nowhere near me at all. The second I come out of stealth near the sentry, suddenly that same mesmer is on top of me attacking. Before you say they used the waypoint and came out of the camp, their waypoint was at SE, not SW. There’s no other way to explain that kind of movement other than a hack.
Hell, during that battle he used the move that gives two clones, the stealth move, and null field. Once you enter combat you can’t change utilities, so I have no other explanation for this.

Yep, it does.
But I’m talking about people who you KNOW you put into down state, or ones you’re 95% sure you put into down state. There is a hack that allows people to teleport under the map to drop combat, and thieves use it more than hackers with another class simply because you can do it while stealthed, aka auto stealth when under 10% hp/downed, so the enemy doesn’t see them blatantly cheat.
The hack DOES exist.

I used to run a build where I’d drop Shadow Refuge before I went down, wait for it to lift, teleport out using downed state 2, and heal up in stealth using my boosted healing from SR. I don’t doubt some jack exists, but I think you lack the understanding of thief techniques to survive. It doesn’t take long.

I think everyone agrees that it would solve the issue of people QQing over the stealth class, but removing it altogether, Burnfall, would create a myriad of new issues.
There is a Tarnished Coast warrior with guild tag [MM] that has been blatant with what seems like a speed hack. She uses a rifle and will backpedal faster than you can sprint toward her. It is extremely obvious as each step she takes is very jerky, like tiny teleports.
There is one annoying exploit of down state that opponent player (mesmer 100% of the time) stays dead for a prolong period (10-15min, 1/2 hour if needed) inside keep/tower/gar near the gate or inside wall (caught glitching into wall using teleporting skill) waiting for their friends to come back to rez them then ports the whole army in. There should be a timer limit for the dead to staying inside enemy occupied tower but knowing Anet, just forget about this post. For amused purpose only.

I and a few others encountered a Hacker/Exploit user a couple of weeks ago in Eternal Battlegrounds, He was a ranger with Longbow and pet warping all over the map while attacking then disappearing. I got his username and reported him then whispered him telling him the fact, I got a reply back saying i don’t care “F*** Y** B******” so i reported him for verbal abuse too.
Guess what? He still logs in to this day. Proof of the fact that Anet does absolutely nothing about it.
There are definitely hackers, but I haven’t seen too many. Usually it is speed or jump hacks. I once saw someone jump from near the SW gate of the BL tower all the way over to the mountain side. So yes, it happens, but not too often. Hopefully ANET is monitoring and banning these people when it happens.

All of these seem to be dubious at best. There is one that has a ring of truth to it & the author has at least a partial sense of what’s happening & why. Certainly the word “hacker” is thrown out there way too much. The vast majority are merely bugs of obscure origin with no real impact on game play. #6 of MiLkZz’s post is worthy of more attention cuz it could get real ugly in wvw real quick ,as YOU are no doubt aware, no “hacks” are req’d.
I’ve never encountered hackers .-.
>.> Same… never met or seen one…
Other than the zoomhacking / using creative windowed mode resolutions / eyefinity I haven’t seen that many people obviously cheating.
Most of the blatant ones have been uplevels, so I assume Anet is actually doing something about it.
They can also teleport under the map to leave combat and heal.
Thieves do this the most.
It’s how I found out Tyria is really a giant floating continent? I’ve seen it
It happens with shadow stepping, especially with sword #2, it’s an annoying bug/glitch that occasionally puts you below the ground.
You should not jump to conclusions so easily. It’s these kinds of claims that make me very sceptical about hacking posts. Try making videos, it’s so much more convincing.
But I am probably just another Anet employee.

In my time playing i saw a lot.
From damage and speed hack to CD abuse hack and more.
I saw player changing the faction/server of npc guards in a camp and they kill the supervisor.
I saw a massive enemy guild teleport to bay WP (OUR BAY WP) with 5 golems when nobody was there (i was on the bay bank).
I saw players using stealth and racials in characters without stealth or that racials skills when they was alone.
I never was able to report them.
Maybe I am ignorant. Maybe it is the server I play on.
I have yet to see something so obviously a hack that I can confidently say “there was no way that was a video/lag/tech issue”.
I’m sure they are there, but I would say their impact is minimal in my experience at least.
Yea, in my entire time being in tier 1-3, I have only seen 1x hacker. And that was over a year ago.
Since then, none.
Lightdivinity – Level 80 Bunker Elementalist

I don’t think I’ve gone a night in the last month without seeing someone hacking…mostly cooldown hacks, but I’ve seen a few people who were without a doubt using speedhacks as well. Its not really noticeable if all you do is zergball but if you run small groups or roam its laughable how many cheaters you stumble upon.
Oh well, at least it makes it worthwhile when you kitten one of them on occasion even though they are cheating…how much do you have to suck to cheat and still lose. Its pretty obvious when you see a guardian popping shield of wrath every 10 seconds, or a single engineer dropping supply drops about 20 seconds apart, hopefully they fix this crap soon.
been playing since launch and have not seen single hacker and only few bots. weird. or its just that aurora glade is awesome :P
Aurora Glade (Fun)
if u play pve u wont see them. they use hacks to map achive. and its not too suspecious if somebody pop up at a waypont and port away. they also have radar. see enemys and friendlys. if they have brain they stop what they do if somebody close and just continnue when you go away. most of the cheaters are thieves, mesmer. they have teleport and invisibility skills. most time you just think he used skills. and if u play with zerg you wont see cheaters. too many people run, flash skills etc… and yes, there are servers where are more cheater. maybe one friend say it to an other to use it….
Just the WvW

I’ve seen maybe a half-dozen people speed-hacking in WvW in the last year, compare that to maybe a couple of hundred in the same period playing WoW.
Same with gold sellers – who pop up and promptly vanish – oh and one guy I reported for a racist nametag – he disappeared in minutes never to return.
I think Anet do quite a good job on this stuff where they can.
Just to point out, there appears to be some bug where you can go through a wall. I accidently did this the other night with my guild. Have no idea how I did it. I just stayed on the inside and DPS the gate down as by time I would have run up the stairs and jump over the wall the gate would have been down as well. At first I thought it was lag that had temporarily said I was on the inside then corrected itself, but no, I stayed on the inside.
I seen a speed hacker tonight on a well known guild on JQ. I really don’t know why speed hackers think they are getting away with it. It is so obvious to allies and enemies but major guilds regularly have these players getting around. It seems like major guilds overlook them.
It has been scientifically proven.. People hardly ever look up ^^
-Getting about 1-2 goldselling messages per month, but that’s mostly i opened myself up to that trough forums.. (and don’t mind because it gives me a reason to report someone)
-Run into a obvious hacker in wvw once a month, but mostly depending on the server we play against and then mostly its flyhacks to get poi’s etc.
Run into less obvious ‘suspicious’ hackers who play the game “with a little help from my friends” once a week..
-mostly recognized trough small skips in combat or cluncky movement mechanics.
-huge, really really huge, fps drop and lag to boot when encountering them 1v1 in an empty environement.
-permanent invulnerability
My favorite:
-Coutering every cc trown at them trough dodges without vigor.
-Macroing (thief/ele’s mostly)

Haha. You’re telling me, my friend. I’ve seen enough of WvW craps as much as I’ve seen dungeon & fractal craps on the other side of the pond. No spending dollars, no change. That’s the policy. I’m no longer care for this game. All is for me to squeeze the last challenge of this game for the last fun.
I think this game has a lot fewer hacks and exploits than most people think, generally better than a lot of other games. Most hacks/exploits you do encounter are trivial in nature and have little impact upon the game as a whole.
In this past matchup we’ve been in, I’ve seen more hackers than ever before. The most interesting one being a guy i downed and spiked instantly res himself in front of me, and no, i’m not talking about his life slowly going back up as if being ressed by someone in stealth. From dead instantly back up to full health. He then one shotted me afterwards with something that didn’t even show up in the combat log. also seen many, many teleporting warriors and a necro i keep running into who used mistform about 3 times during my fight with him about 20 seconds apart from each casting of it, so no it wasnt vamp runes doing that. i’ve also encounter a thief who mistformed AFTER i downed him, same as the ele down skill.
Every MMO that has group-pvp has hackers. They were rampant in DAoC, present in Warhammer Online, and don’t get me started on WoW and the whole raft of WoW clones. (I’ve only seen one hacker here in GW2 WvW in over a year.)
Hacking dimishes the game.
I can undertand why ANet does not have a report hack ability because it could lead to abuse. They don’t for PvE either.
However, like PvE, if you care enough and take the time to fill out and send an email to support (with supporting screenshots, video, anything that will help provide conclusive information), support tends to take those seriously.
It may take a long time for them to investigate (which in some cases is understandable). And part of the problem is an inability to identify the hacker by name.
Hope that helps.

i have seen people hacking …
moving from camp to castles in a blink of an eye
u would not know he was there but u would see a name tag blur and he was building rams at castles .
as a second small group would start to ram he would move to the next and start to build … i would have reported but he moved to fast to click on and report

Mesmers flyhacking then portaling their bus in structures have an impact…
Of course, some do hide for extended periods, but I know of no in-game ability that allows to fly in the sky…
There are hackers, and it would be nice to be able to report a player for possibly being one, and receive a message from Anet a few days later, either:
- Thanks for your report. Pre-investigation datas collected do not point to hacking, unless new reports are received, we will not pursue the matter further.
- Thanks for your report. After investigation, we concluded there was no hack done by X player at X time.
- Thanks for your report. After investigation, we noticed irregularities in that player log. Situation will be dealt with according to policy.
We then know where things stand we know they do something, and we know they have their reasons to do noting…
Win/win

Uhhh…
Super speed
mouse click teleporting and an anti death variant(teleport when health gets low)
walking through geometry
seeing through geometry
skill cooldown
endurance regen
super zoom
flying
super jump
walking up walls
Etc etc, people have posted videos showing all this.
These can have a serious impact on everyone, from the solo/small group roamers to the upgrader/yak runner/ siege builder and maintainer/PPT chaser and people have been complaining about this for pretty much the entire life of this game. The speed, jump and teleport ones seem to be the most common, since they’re adjustable, you can miss it if you’re not paying attention or experienced. I’ve been seeing fishy cooldowns and dodge access a bit more frequently now though.

I play hours and hours every night and I might encounter one hacker a week. Most of the time I see people crying exploit it is not even an exploit or a hack, just uninformed drivel. Compare that to a game like Aion in NA release and this game is pretty kitten clean.
….
However, like PvE, if you care enough and take the time to fill out and send an email to support (with supporting screenshots, video, anything that will help provide conclusive information), support tends to take those seriously.
…..
Emphasis mine. This has not been my experience.
I sent A-Net a report on an exploit, which allowed you to get into the Green Keep in EB. I gave them a step-by-step screenshot tutorial on how to use the exploit. They replied first by saying that in the future I should report any “potential exploits” for their team to verify. Then thanked me for sending them the information. I went back to the place a month later, to see if it were patched, and was still able to exploit.
They are very nice when you give information. But need more expediency, when it comes to actually fixing the exploits. :-)
There’s one guild in particular that i encounter ever time we fight against Maguuma who i won’t mention by name on here because we arent allowed to, but i’ve seen them do some pretty crazy stuff. and we’re matched up against Maguuma again this week, oh joy. People sinking into the ground so they cant be spiked. killshots that show up in my combat log for 99,999 damage, teleporting warriors, mesmers that jump over walls and then teleport their friends inside towers and keeps. Multiple people have seen and screenshotted this guild doing these things, and nothing has been done about it. its getting ridiculous. They used to be somewhat covert about their cheating but now they just do it right in front of large groups because they know that anet wont do crap about it. they know they can get away with it. I could probably fill a volume of encyclopedias with the screenshots we’ve gotten of their constant cheating.
No third party programs are needed for enemies to get into Citadel. The most they can do is kill some of the merchants. They can’t damage you so kill them.
Shhhhhh you can’t talk about that stuff here! Do you want to be INFRACTED
Used to be able to post a picture on the match up thread and the enemy servers would deal with it internally but since the match up threads were wiped there has been a huge increase of exploiters and hackers because they know they can get away with it now…
Only hacker I never cared about was one in the TA dungeon that could 100 blades a boss for insta kills….. Fastest dungeon run ever!
….. And Elementalist.
Ive been playing since release. The main difference between hackers at release and hackers now is the degree of discretion showed. Hackers don’t hack as obviously.
It come down to a number of things hackers getting better at hacking. Hackers have legitimate concerns about their accounts and not wanting to lose them (the irony).
From a pragmatic perspective ANet care mainly about hacks (or bots in particular) that damage the economy and impact directly on their bottom line. They’re the ones they respond to quickly and efficiently.
There were a number of threads that were closed around release that discussed hacks that investigated solutions to hacks (Punk Buster etc). None of it came to any obvious conclusions and subsequently only ANet has any real idea of numbers and how successful they are at stopping them.
Remembering of course that a lot of information is handled client side and so therefore Anet are unable to directly determine if someone is hacking or not. Its a combination player video footage, player reports and as much information as possible that will get someone banned.
Make and using a thief running solo while in stealth, you tell me are they hacking? Even ANet doesn’t know.

That’s an interesting point that the community is now in a much more difficult situation to self regulate.
