So, if you do not do jumping puzzles, you cannot vote and therefore cannot participate in this update? Am I correct?

I don’t think that getting to the top can be even considered as jumping puzzle. You have only 3 jumps (which are painfuly easy) to do, the rest is just automatic transporation with lightning element.

I do not jump. I have hands that are deformed and crippled, and have yet to find a way to make my hands work with any jumps even with assists with any predictablity. I have not managed to even make the first jump in the Zephyr Sanctum, despite trying and dying and losing lots and lots of cash waypointing to get up.

I was kind of hoping there was something for open world people this time around.

So the short answer is yes, you must be able to jump.

Yea, I am sad about it. Frustration and sadness, and oh so very bored with doing my daily and logging off, and hoping…maybe NEXT time there WON’T be a jumping puzzle.

in fact there’s a lightning crystal right before them under a ramp and all you have to do is press 3 then move your mouse cursor over to the platform and the lightning leap will jump up there.
and if you want to do it the regular way then all that is required is 2 buttons, 1 then W a man with 1 arm and his mouth can do them.
hell a guy with no arms can use the lightning leap and get past those jumps.

if you want to i will personally show you the path that requires only those 3 jumps and even then if you can’t make it then how hard is it to ask someone in your guild that has a mesmer for a portal past those 3 simple jumps?

I’ve been posting about how this new content is potentially out of reach for many players, and as of yet ANet has outright ignored it. Now, we see a few players that are unable to participate due to the mechanics, and instead of ANet addressing it, they further ignore it.

ANet, here is a simple solution. Move, or replicate the voting at the lower waypoint as well. There is no reason why you can’t do this.

Why don’t you have a mesmer help port you past the 1 part where you need to jump at all. Heck i’ll port you past it(though i may mess up once or twice but free port for ya)

While I’m sorry to hear that the OP’s disability interferes with his ability to play the game, that’s what it is—an inability to play the game. While it is unfortunate if one is not capable of entering the most basic commands required to interact with the game, such as targeting a ground-targeted AoE like the lightning pull, it is not a fault in the game.

First, I use the arrow keys and the mouse to play. I have one finger on the left hand that I use to move using the up and down keys to move forward and back. My right hand only has a thumb and palm that work, so I use my palm and my thumb in kind of a wonky twisting motion to press the mouse to turn and move. I have tried binding the jump to the end key which is next to the up arrow, but this only works for pretty simple jumps, and as I said, not reliably.

I realize that it is very easy for you (and most other people, apparently) to do, but I have tried and cannot do it. I merely asked if I was correct that the new content was —--again—— jump dependent.

Here is the thing, people who face challenges in life through no fault of their own already understand that they must adjust to function in a world that doesn’t always consider them. Most of the people that I’ve ever known with a disability aren’t asking for everyone to change, or adapt to them, they just want to be considered.

In this case ANet loses nothing at all by putting the voting stations on the lower level (or both).

Imagine for a moment if this same philosophy was used in the real world. Voting stations for the next leader were held in places inaccessible to people with disabilities. Anyone in a wheelchair couldn’t make it to the booth. What if the buttons on the ballot machines were in a colour that made it impossible for color blind people to choose?

Whenever possible, ANet should strive to consider as many of their players as they can. I would even go so far as to hire someone who is responsible for voicing accessibility concerns. In this case, it’s a no brainer. Put out a patch that allows users to vote on the lower waypoint.

It solves the issue for everyone who cannot vote due to disabilities, latency, ability, etc. It makes the election fair.

I again say to you why not ask a mesmer to port you through that 1 part and i even offered it to you to port you but you don’t need to get mad at people over a situation you can’t seem to figure out the solution to.

There is 1 i count it 1 spot where it requires any jumping and if you are telling people to have compassion while you’re being rude to people(i don’t kitten care if they are doing it as well). 2 wrongs doesnt make a right.

I would be more than happy to game with you. I’m in no rush, and perhaps we can even get you some of those achievements you may have been having issues with. Feel free to say “hey” in game.

Also, forgive me if you’ve already thought of this, but you say you have a working thumb on your mouse hand. Have you looked at getting one of those MMO mouses? They have like 10 programmable buttons on the side. That might help.

I definitely suggest trying it this way.

I’m able-bodied, and I still stink at anything that requires jumping. Finding the lightning pull crystal was the only way I could initially get past that section. Good luck!

How are you not able to use your number one skill?

If you have even one finger availble, which you clearly have at least one then: Hit R for autorun, press 1 (jump skill), press R for autorun (to deactivate). Repeat 2 more times. You don’t even need to be that quick at it.

If you are able to kill things in PvE, then you can accomplish this.

A large part (pretty much all) of me believes you making stuff up to make a point that OMG you have to jump at least 3 times so that means jumping is a requirement and that is bad because that excludes people who don’t like to jump out of principle so anet sucks etc etc etc.

Since I have no proof I will unfortunately have to assume you are telling the truth so as not to seem insensitive. But think we all know what’s going on here…

There is absolutely no anger in my post anywhere, merely an explanation. Any inference of anger is completely your own.

I do not ask for you or anyone to port me because it is a bother—-an imposition—-on my part on another player. When the diving achievement was taken from me because the Aetherblade JP dive was included a very sweet mesmer came and ported me for 4 hours before I just could not stand to be that much of an imposition on another human being any longer and told them I would just put it in my “Cannot do” category.

Seriously, I am just wishing I could at some point get some reassurance that the game itself is not going to be endless jumping puzzles forever, because then I would finally and truly know for certain that the game had taken an unexpected turn—-one that I could not follow.

I do not begrudge others their love for jumping puzzles. Heck, my best friend loves them, and I even made him do the one at pig iron mine and let me stand below to watch him so I could laugh my behind off watching him do it. I enjoy the art, and I love a good puzzle. Just not JUMPING puzzles.

i dont know if you didn’t read the part where i said all thats required is 2 buttons the first action key and the move forward key, not only that the lightning leap only requires you to press 3 move the mouse to the desired spot then pressing the mouse key or what ever you press to click.

you have at least 2 fingers you can do the training jumps to get to the vote boxes, or you can just use your mouse hand to press 3 to activate the leap scroll over where you want it to go and click there.
stop making excuses, you’d have a case for other things but this…no you have plenty of options and anet gives you plenty of ways to get up there.

first option: press the 1 key then W their simple jumps and you’ve proven you can do simple jumps and have at least 2 fingers.

second option: theres a lightning leap skill crystal right under the ramp that you pass when going up to those 3 simple jumps you pass it right after the cave area just go to the left once you go back outside and it’ll be right beside a merchant.

third option: get a mesmer.

Although I sometimes have massive lags and cannot use my skills properly (just on the bazar map; especially in the sanctum sprint) I would like to help. Most of the times I am able to do the jumps, so I would like to portal you to my place and we will get you up there.

I would try to be not mad at Anet, because I think they are just not aware of what troubles their living story with the high amount of jumping can have for some people.
They already improved the game for color-blind people a little bit, so maybe feedback from people that cannot do these contents will make an impact in the future. We never know.

What are you going on about? Please take a moment to read this entire post from the top, and pay close attention to who is writing what.

I see no one but me being rude, and I am doing so because I can’t even fathom why some people in this thread are so heartless. It’s nice of you to offer to port this person up, but you’re not exactly being understanding or nice about it from my perspective.

I’m assuming that part of the reason why this person even said anything is because, as they’ve said it can be frustrating to watch a game you love, make design choices that suddenly leave you out in the cold.

It can suck to invest time into a game, and then have the devs not even consider that you even exist. No one in this thread is asking for special treatment on their part.

I on the other hand am very, very, passionate about ANet not screwing over players when they don’t need to. As I said above, moving the voting station to a easily accessible location does not interfere with the design, story, or gameplay. This should be a very reasonable request, and should be done ASAP.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with these people. Some people just have no ability to think beyond their comfortable lives and empathize what it must be like for others.

I can only imagine what it must be like for you to play this game, and I tell ya, thinking back to how badly I raged when I couldn’t do some of the harder puzzles in this game, I have to give you some major kudos for trying.

Your setup sounds very cool. It’s quite interesting to hear how you’ve adapted. Don’t apologize to these goons. You have nothing to be sorry for. You’ve been nothing but polite, and reasonable in your posts.

I think you deserve to have access to as much of this game as possible. I am personally going to send ANet a support ticket and point them to this thread. I think they need to be aware of what it is like for some players, and keep it in mind whenever they design something.

It’s been said multiple times there is 0 actual jumping involved if you get the lightning pull ability. If asking a Mesmer for help to get over 3 simple jumps that you can even bypass the jumping with a different ability is too much then how exactly are you even capable of playing the game?

The Aetherblade diving I can understand as I haven’t even done it yet(granted I never asked for help) but if asking for help or even taking the extra 5secs to get the ability is too much then how is it even possible to move let alone kill mobs? It’s literally point at the platform with the ability and fly to it, there is no jumping involved.

This is an mmo and as such it’s meant to be played with other people or atleast have some interaction with them. I honestly can’t tell if you’re telling the truth with your disability or if you’re somehow trying to make this into bashing jumping puzzles for being too hard for some(which this isn’t a jumping puzzle unless you’re going after certain achievements). If you actually are telling the truth then really the best thing that can be said is games like this are not for everyone and if even the simplist of tasks is too hard even when there’s a way to make them easier then maybe it’s time to move on.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with these people. Some people just have no ability to think beyond their comfortable lives and empathize what it must be like for others.

I do not jump. I have hands that are deformed and crippled, and have yet to find a way to make my hands work with any jumps even with assists with any predictablity. I have not managed to even make the first jump in the Zephyr Sanctum, despite trying and dying and losing lots and lots of cash waypointing to get up.

I was kind of hoping there was something for open world people this time around.

How are you not able to use your number one skill?

If you have even one finger availble, which you clearly have at least one then: Hit R for autorun, press 1 (jump skill), press R for autorun (to deactivate). Repeat 2 more times. You don’t even need to be that quick at it.

If you are able to kill things in PvE, then you can accomplish this.

A large part (pretty much all) of me believes you making stuff up to make a point that OMG you have to jump at least 3 times so that means jumping is a requirement and that is bad because that excludes people who don’t like to jump out of principle so anet sucks etc etc etc.

Since I have no proof I will unfortunately have to assume you are telling the truth so as not to seem insensitive. But think we all know what’s going on here…

I do not use numbers to attack. I use the mouse to attack. I use my thumb (and palm) on the mouse in my left hand to click on each of the attacks that I wish to use on the screen.

Although I sometimes have massive lags and cannot use my skills properly (just on the bazar map; especially in the sanctum sprint) I would like to help. Most of the times I am able to do the jumps, so I would like to portal you to my place and we will get you up there.

I would try to be not mad at Anet, because I think they are just not aware of what troubles their living story with the high amount of jumping can have for some people.
They already improved the game for color-blind people a little bit, so maybe feedback from people that cannot do these contents will make an impact in the future. We never know.

Well I did get a PM from the Developer who did the Super Adventure Box and he said he thought of people like me when he put in the special moves there and the “Baby” level.

In fact, when the Aetherblade jump with its bouncing platforms and whiz-bang-throw-you-over skills and then the Zephyr place came in and I saw there were more options to jump, I spent a day really trying to do it, since they went through (what I thought) was a lot of work to put in other types of jumping options —-and perhaps vainly-—all for little old me. (yea right)

I do see the work behind the new options in jumping and I do feel perhaps we are getting close to a meeting of the minds here.

Can I buy some magic jumping beans in the Black Lion Shop? haha! I promise to give up the achievement for a chance to admire the art.

That said, I totally agree. ANet, like any good company should always be considering accessibility issues. This can mean anything from people with disabilities to players crippled by latency issues.

I’ve been posting about how this new content is potentially out of reach for many players, and as of yet ANet has outright ignored it. Now, we see a few players that are unable to participate due to the mechanics, and instead of ANet addressing it, they further ignore it.

ANet, here is a simple solution. Move, or replicate the voting at the lower waypoint as well. There is no reason why you can’t do this.

If the guy with no hands can kill a mob which requires pushing at least 2 buttons and moving he can jump, all it takes is different buttons if you don’t like the positioning you can edit the key binding to make it easy but if you can kill a mob you can make those three jumps. The level of tears in this thread honestly scares me.

All three skills can be affected by lag. I don’t know where you take your assumption from, but I experienced lag on each skill. Maybe you want to read the thread about oceanic players and how they are affected by massive lag on skill 1, 2 and 3. ^^

As I’ve said many times in other posts, the SAB jump pads, and these new mechanics are the ONLY issue with lag I have.

The thing is, that what if a person with disabilities had even half this much lag? What if the person with a disability had no lag, but weren’t able to perform the fine motor skills needed to do complex jumps?

I feel that something should be handled differently in this case. There is no reason I can see not to make the voting accessible to all players by putting it on the lower waypoint.
