Delaqua and Kasmeer Lesbian Couple
I think in this day and age, it’s a bit odd if you feel any strange feelings due to them being a lesbian couple. It’s more and more common for people to be in same-sex relationships.
Honestly, I’d imagine there’ll be no dramas in their relationship, Caithe/Faolain and Logan/Jennah cover the dramatic and complicated relationships in the game, we don’t really need another one.
There has been some foreshadowing of drama already.
Whether the relationship is same-sex or not is really not relevant to… well, anything.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
They’ve been hinting at it for a while now. I think of it as just another couple. As for their future, I think one of them will either die or turn evil.
(edited by RoseofGilead.8907)
I have nothing against their relationship, its really nothing surprising or new. We’ve had foreshadowing of it loosely for a long time.
As far as anything bad happening, its possible. I hope they don’t kill one of them off, but its likely to happen. Or at least they get separated/one is missing for a time to help fuel the story line.
Either way, I’m just glad to see more character and story to these people we’ve been helping for a while. I’ll be glad to see more about Rox, etc in the future too.
For anyone interested, Marjories house now has Kasmeers name added to the sign.
Where’s Marjory’s house?
i think its out of place for a game like this, i can understand the sylvari but not humans.

Anyway just don’t think about it, if it is that big of a deal for you.
Not like the actual game change because of it
Technically as stated from Marjory they haven’t officially named themselves a couple. They are more or less friends with benefits.
Where’s Marjory’s house?
Just before you get to the Dead End
Glad they finally came out lol. As to what happens next, who knows? No need to punish it with death. Ultimately, it’s up to Anet.

Agreeing there, don’t think people should really feel odd if there’s a lesbian couple in a game.
Game developers have been adding in more complex characters with different traits and personalities to break away from the norm.
Look at such games like Catherine, Valkyria Chronicles, and Persona 4.
Some of their characters go beyond same-sex relationships.
In games now we’ve got racists, sexists, same-sex relationships, masochists, even characters of both genders!
Which is funny since people don’t relize games have had characters like these for years now, going as far back as Super Mario 2.
… some of us know Birdo’s secret. Nintendo tried to hide it like what happened with Poison from Final Fight but they can’t undo what they put in that original game manuel.
I’m just glad it’s not implying Rox and Braham are a couple… more like, brother-sister.

K, a claim like this you have to back up.
You’re saying it is out of place
in a fictional world
that has shown absolutely no reason for it not be an accepted form of relationship.
Edit:
Oh I see, the gay agenda viewpoint, no sense in wasting my time there then.
Pretty hard not to see it coming. They were already pretty Thelma-and-Louise in Tower of Nightmares.
Lesbian couples, and femme ones like that are cute, glamorous and very attractive to a still predominantly young-adult male playerbase. It’s cute, yeah but I’m not really wowed by it. Given the demographic Anet is marketing to, its just another selling point, nothing more. I have a feeling that it’s still gonna be a good while before you see them feature a male same-sex relationship among their star characters.
Since Kasmeer was pricked by a thorn in the Tower, her dialogue keeps getting more and more down beat; though she was up beat for this latest scene.
The story seems to suggest to me that Scarlet isn’t actually evil, just tormented by Nightmare and that Taimi will attempt to save her. I would guess that Anet are building a strong relationship between Kasmeer and Delaqua, because Kasmeer will become mentally unstable (due to the toxin) and end up replacing Scarlet when she is freed from her torment. This would then give Delaqua (either with or without the rest of Destiny’s Edge 2) a strong reason to risk all to save her (possible arc for next LS).
That’s just me guessing though.

On topic: I wrote some time ago I think 1 of them will die, most probably Kasmeer to make Marjory more dark (but that’s just because I like Jory more :P).
Off topic that a lot of ppl thinks is actually on topic: I wonder what the chinese think of same sex relations in the game. I don’t know, but I know people don’t think the same way universally.

We totes had a meeting and forced the GW2 dev’s to put it in right? The “gay agenda” argument is tired and so obviously paranoid…THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

For a bit more context some folks, particularly Dr Ritter.1327, might want to take a look at what Bobby said regarding Marjory and Kasmeer in the thread that Psynch.4987 linked:
Bobby SteinA few things here:
- We didn’t put this in to cater to anyone. We’re just trying to tell a good story.
- No crusade going on here.
- Interesting characters and character moments make for a better experience overall. We’re not doing it at the expense of putting other things in the game.
What people don’t understand is that we wrote and voiced a lot of these moments throughout the year. Some scenes and story instances were cut or never implemented in the final releases, which is why this particular story instance was longer than the typical one and filled with lots of exposition.

…and also what Matthew said as well:
Matthew MedinaTo be clear, the only “agenda” any of us at Arenanet have is to tell engaging and compelling stories using our medium of interactive narrative. Part of achieving that goal is to provide genuine and believable characters who have depth and interesting interpersonal dynamics, including the portrayal of complex and compelling relationships.
We have put much effort into making sure that Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox, Braham and now Taimi each bring a unique perspective to the overall Living World narrative, and we love exploring the various relationships of all of these characters, as well as those already established via the player’s personal story. You will see those relationships continue to grow and change, as you would expect of friends and comrades you encounter in real life.
Specifically with Marjory and Kasmeer, we’re trying to present two characters that have a burgeoning friendship and interest in one another, because that’s something that happens in life. We don’t generally talk much about it on forums or the like, because as has been pointed out before, we much prefer to tell their story in game wherever possible. But we would also like to think that our portrayal of their feelings towards each other is more than simply something you can define by “ticking a box”.

There has been some foreshadowing of drama already.
Whether the relationship is same-sex or not is really not relevant to… well, anything.
Unfortunately, it is relevant when almost all same sex relationships in entertainment(books, tv, movies) end up terrible. They are commonly short lived and interrupted by death whether it’s murder, suicide, or an affair with someone of the opposite sex.

I am really struggling to think of an example of a hetero relationship in GW2 that didn’t end terribly. (Jennah/Logan is debatable, but doesn’t look like a “happy ending” to me either.) Rox’ boyfriend died, Braham got ditched by Ophelia, his parents reportedly split, and the only other relationship of any kind that I can think of is Snaff/Zojja and we all know what happened there.
However, overall, fair point.

I don’t like it. It feels forced. There aren’t any other couples in the game, which makes it really odd. The only other couple i can think of is Jenna and Logan, but they aren’t really a couple.
Does a game really need to push the lesbian & gay idea of acceptance? I don’t think so. It feels like a forced agenda of acceptance, that hollywood and special interest groups use. Let’s be real here. A-net is only doing this because they feel pressured by political correctness, and they don’t want to feel intolerant. It’s not because they want to, but they have to, in fear of being labeled homophobic.
And why does it have to be women? Especially when they are both “hot”. Is it to cater to young boys? Of course it is. Will we see two males getting it on next? Or how about an asuran female and a male norn? Gotta include that inter-racial love too now. Should i even start at Charr and Humans, which is a step closer to bestiality? Will there ever be boundaries A-net will stop at?
All of this is just ridiculous, and i would rather not have it in GW2, or any other video game.
But Black Curtains? Really?
But Black Curtains? Really?
i think that’s just jory’s necro vibe.
i don’t know what to make of that particular scene though. i can’t tell if they were discussing that stuff because they want to open a proper office (and kasmeer is an overenthusiastic underling), or if they just jumped from “hay i like you/i like you too” to “let’s live together, here’s all the stuff i wanna change in your place”.

i dont think snaff/zojja had that type of relationship, but i didnt read the second book. My biggest problem with this relationship, other than kasmeer being ehhhh just lame in general, is that it seems like two charachters cant have a close connection without being in a sexual relationship. Why cant two gals get have fun, fight baddies, and work together closely without becoming an item.
perhaps it feels odd because we only get a small time with any charchters, not like most of the interactions ring true anyhow. Perhaps if i liked kasmeer more, it would be better, but almost everything she says grates on me.
I don’t like Kasmeer either.
Rox and Braham are partners in crime and clearly lack sexual chemistry.

That’s because sexual identity has become so ingrained in society. People are defined by it, instead of their other attributes. Sexual identity is at the forefront. Overall though, it just shows how really lame the storytelling has become.
All: if you want to speculate about Rox and Braham, please create a new thread for it. This thread was created by DominationCreation.5703 to discuss Marjory and Kasmeer and to speculate about them.

Ugh, personally I’m getting pretty grossed out about Marjory and Kasmeer and their sex has little to do with it. The thing that makes me uncomfortable is more to do with how obnoxious and attention-whoring they are about their relationship, making overt references to it every five seconds. Yeah, I get it, you’re lesbians, now quit shoving it in everyone’s face.
Well to be honest, if I think about it, it’s more Marjory that annoys me. She just screams attention-kitten to me, with her sexual tone in everything she says to everyone. She also seems a whole lot more interested in the romantic or sexual aspect of her relationship with Kasmeer than Kasmeer herself is; she only seems to make any allusion to it when the subject is pressed. Which it is, by Marjory, at every possible opportunity.

The game is not trying to push anything but rather seek to include relationships that reflect the world we live in. You are implying that REAL homosexual couples need to be invisible from the mainstream and ANY attempt to bring these issues into the mainstream is considered a “political agenda”.
There was nothing forced about Kasmeer and Marjory being a couple. For months now, there has been very obvious hints dropped here and there. Kasmeer and Marjory are not the first homosexual pairing in GW2 and they probably won’t be.
For those who aren’t ok with homosexuality at this present day of age, you may find the world rapidly shrinking for you as more and more lgtq movements rise up and speak up after years of oppression, violence, and silence.
I don’t like Kasmeer either.

Ya know, I actually do not mind. It shows that in the world of Tyria, nothing is weird about their relationship. They do not need to hide or risk getting beaten to death by an angry homophobic crazy person.

Is this kind of thinking restrictive? It seems to imply that this same sex couple shouldn’t be short lived or interrupted by death for fear of continuing an undesired trend. Having a special lens that you view a couple through because of its orientation (even if the intent is to avoid tropes and clichés) reinforces the idea that the couple is different and should have special rules in the first place. I’m on the fence on this one, on one hand it shouldn’t primarily define them or their relationship, on the other I think it’s good when a story recognises that while the differences between couples of any orientation aren’t as great as some people seem to think they are, it’s still OK to portray them differently (whether it be practical – the ability to reproduce as a pair, or cultural – the experience of prejudice).
It was weird seeing Rox refer to Marjory and Kasmeer as a mating pair. I would have expected a charr to have a more nature-channel approach to mates, as in, mating is a reproductive thing not a life partner thing (I probably don’t understand charr that well). If this theme keeps popping up on the forums (it’s made worse by the red posts), can you imagine what would happen if Marjory and Kasmeer adopted the orphaned Taimi?
I dont like them being a couple. It is fine for me that Marjory was lesbian and hits on Kasmeer, but Kasmeer should say no… Marjory is taking advantage of a depressive kasmeer, who doesn´t know what she really wants. Which is Lord Faren, by the way…XD
No, seriously, there is too much lesbianism in the game in my opinion. I hope this relationship to break in some way. I prefer the tipical three-way relationship that you can find in almost any story rather than this one, which we experienced already with Caithe and Faolain in game.
I have no problem with them being a lesbian couple, I have few homosexual friends in RL, I know them since childhood and they are my best friends, so no problem with homosex stuff at all.
But what I don’t like, is that their relationship feels so forced, I mean like SO FORCED. Conversations between these two are so awkward since that naked thing in Nightmare Tower. Also that beach scene in LA felt more like a parody to some cheesy romantic movie. I just don’t feel like their relationship is real (I know that it’s a game lol, but story should be somewhat realistic).

So you want a ton of heterosexual love triangles because Caithe and Faolin have filled the gay quota…. Personally I think Jory and Kas are great. Maybe a little awkward to watch, but it’s often awkward watching other peoples relationships – so in that sense it’s actually pretty realsitic.
I don’t like it :/ for me, it takes away from the character…they had this fun whimsical bromance type of thing going on, and i liked it, now its pretty well ruined.
Dr. Ritter,
It’s truly a shame others are shunning your opinion about how you feel about it, I think yours and every other opinion is valid. Regardless of how some feel, it’s a very controversial topic depending on you’re beliefs. So sorry you have to be shunned for not thinking the same as others.
In my opinion, as I’ve stated in another post, the relationship doesn’t personally bother me, but the cutscenes are a little too intimate and awkward for me, it makes me feel “outside” of what their thinking is, maybe it’s because I’m a straight male, I’m not sure. I’m not into anything real soft and sweet though, so that could be it as well. I’m more into Rytlocks style, or Eir.
Anyways, see how it fairs.
