And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
So, Marjory was hurt decently bad. She got knocked out, looked a little roughed up, looked dead.

Let’s see, we got a human spellcaster and a sturdy norn warrior 2 times larger than the spellcaster.

The larger one would fall harder, just saying.
Armored vehicle vs. Mini Cooper, just saying.

Lol, while I love the idea of a Norn being built like a freaking tank, we both know that isn’t realistic. Bones and flesh of Norn guardian versus Human Necromancer are essentially equal (especially considering that necromancers have super high health pool and guardians super low) in terms of the game mechanics, I really don’t think it makes as much sense as you’re implying.
Next time tell Marjory Delaqua to approach a criminal with her Death Shroud on.

For real!
Game mechanics and lore don’t usually mix well. Lore-wise Guardians are the ones who protect their teammates. They are supposed to take more beating than a dead summoning spellcaster who rarely engage in physical combat.

I’ll never capitulate!
Anyway in all seriousness, you’re probably right, but I still have a problem with it.

Except the guardian’s bones and flesh are wrapped in heavy plate armor and the necromaner’s are in light cloth.

This is heavy plate armor?
Poor Marjory, you’re not wearing enough clothes!

Marjory was also closer than Braham was. Generally speaking those closer to a blast tend to take more damage.
Then you have to take their race and general size into account as well. Majory is small, human, and female. Braham is a huge male norn. Those factors are also going to influence how much damage one can sustain. Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means calling Marjory ‘delicate’ but her smaller stature, and less dense frame (both muscular and skeletal) are going to suffer more in an impact than Braham’s would.
Next time tell Marjory Delaqua to approach a criminal with her Death Shroud on.
Or to tell the Ranger in the party to shoot the insane evil genius instead of approaching her.
He was just faking so he could get at Rox’s feels :P
Marjory has always struck me as kind of a bad kitten- I remember how she went to town in the Tower instance

That’s fair.
I’m just wondering why Scarlet’s blast was so … I don’t know, wimpy, that it only reached 2 of the folks. And why it didn’t affect my poor toon who was right up there

I agree with you.
And yeah I just don’t see Marjory as a person who could get… Sucker punched like that and not be quickly rebounding.

I’ll just chalk it up to she was hurt and couldn’t muster more strength. After all, she is technically ‘downed’ in that scene. She would have limited strength and resources available to her.
So, Marjory was hurt decently bad. She got knocked out, looked a little roughed up, looked dead.

Majory charged Scarlet first of everyone, so she was closer to the blast, and Braham is a big strong Norn youth.
Mmmm I don’t play an engineer, but is that an engineer downed state attack? XD
But yeah I bet my warrior stealth dodged her blast Warriors OP forever.

I am enjoying the conversation that has evolved, but thank you, we covered that.

Actually yes it is. It’s number 3. Number 2 is a pull line and number 3 is a huge AoE blast that knocks everything back and does a fair amount of damage.

I hadn’t even thought of it until you brought it up. And with all the talking she had plenty of time for her number 3 to come off cool down.

Any idea what the range of the blast is?
Not off hand, but it’s definitely PBAoE and intended to be close, that’s the reason for 2 being a pull, to get them close enough to blow them away.

It’s a fantasy world afterall, and norn are pretty much described as Hercules in flesh, able to lift things way beyond their weight and battle foes way out of their size difference. They can take and handle a lot more than any other race, including charr. They’ve been described to kill a whole charr warband all alone.
Sure, then why does Braham care about a broken leg? Sure it hurts, but he didn’t break both legs.

Neat. I need to level my engineer to mess around with their skills a bit more. Downed state is always interesting to me.
One could stop a freight train with his chest hair alone, the other usually fights via siphoning life, raising minions and poisoning enemies (not by taking a blast to the face).
Hrm…
This is a tricky one…
It’s too bad they didn’t have a Warrior in their DE2.0 party. The warrior could have just told Braham to “Shake it off!” and his broken leg would be cured.
So true, Atrius.
So another thing, why would Scarlet even do it? If she had killed one of them, maybe she would have “rallied” but that’s doubtful. She was sooooo outnumbered in a downed state. It just made the Mesmer angry and the PC more intent in cutting her face.

Even putting archetypes of warrior vs thief defense aside, I still think it’s perfectly plausible.
The blast just struck Braham lower, resulting in a fracture, whereas Marjory didn’t get any broken bones, but instead got a concussion.

Yeah. I guess if the big Norn hit his head it would be all over.

Even if he broken his head it wouldn’t matter, there’s nothing in there worth mentioning. Marjory, being a detective, needs her brains so it was a more significant injury.

Agreed. You think he can still hit things with his mace if his brains are leaking out? I say, an experiment is in order!

It’s alright, as you should know the Norn are the least significant race of the five major races.

logan is not smart but has drive i dont think a minor injury would prevent him from standing up.
norn stayed down and being useless along with his useless kitty.
terrible story characters.
It’s probably just a combination of different body structure/size and Marjory landing badly enough to hit her head (and according to Kasmeer, breaking a rib or two).
They both stayed behind in Lion’s Arch to help get the rest of the refugees to safety, so Rox’s medical skills must be really good. Braham was even able to walk around and fight with a broken leg!
So moral of this thread: Braham is useless.
But yeah, they landed differently, understandable.
Consider also that Braham is much taller than Marjory, making it more likely that a blast starting on the ground would hit Marjory’s head (hence concussion) than it is to hit the tall norn.
So your theory is that the blast knocked Marjory out? I thought it was the fall.
So your theory is that the blast knocked Marjory out? I thought it was the fall.
I guess, but even if it was the fall, the lower mass of Marjory would probably result in her being propelled back more than Braham, so even if it was the fall, I would think that Marjory would take it harder.

This is true, if the game followed this kind of physics. I’m wondering now what really happened to their bodies, as we see them blasted but we don’t see their fall. I think Marjory was knocked further (but maybe my reference frame is wonky). But I don’t know.
Still, Braham had a broken leg, he should have been able to get up haha.

I knew that was wrong, and you should be aware of it.
Cepha: An exhaustive study of Tyrian physiognomy led me to derive what I call Cepha’s Constant.
Cepha: Multiplied by the mean ratio of body mass to brain size, it yields an important racial metric.
Cepha: Namely, said race’s importance as a factor in the Eternal Alchemy.
Cepha: Asura scored highest, naturally. Then, in descending order, we have sylvari, charr, human, and norn.
