People are tired by the third fractal, and putting the longest one at the end is just frustrating. Instead we should be getting the longest over with first, and then have things move from trash clearing to puzzle solving.
Should be Longest->Medium->Short
I completely agree with this and is the way I was thinking it should be when the change was first announced. Knowing when that 3rd fractal loads that you’ll be getting one of the hardest/longest… it induced a bit of a feeling of dread.
I’d MUCH rather get the hardest over with at the beginning.

It’s the obvious way round to do it.

I agree with this. It’s better to get rid of hardest ones before the easiest. Less frustrating.

Whether something is either wrong or right, someone will always complain about it.
They won’t do this because then Dredge and Grawl will never be played.

If the entire playerbase purposefully avoids a level then that indicates you need to properly balance your levels.
While I agree the idea is good and makes sense, as pointed out, oo one would run dredge fractal and reroll until they get something easier/faster.
Then again that might be a good way for anet to balance fractals, see which one gets skipped and then make slight adjustments.
Signed.. some fractals are just horribly inbalanced and not challenging (just painful)… Even the guy in the twitch preview video was facepalming to himself…
The solution is not switching the orders, is fixing the fractals that people avoid so they are no longer a mere exercise of frustration.

Which is nice, but wouldn’t at all address what I’m saying.
Even with balance going long→med→short is the best option.

As opposed to now where no one will do any short fractal other than swamp?

I guess their point is that if the fractals were balanced, they’d all be roughly the same duration in the first place.
Pretty sure that the difference in length was a byproduct, not by design. In my opinion, there is no need for long → medium → short because there is no need for different durations. In a perfect world…

I agree with this. Putting dredge and grawl first actually is a better solution than removing them. That way the people who want to play them can, and noone else has to. Why include content that most people hate in something that’s supposed to be fun?
I agree.
It’s actually nuisance to get to the third fractal and know that you’re still going to be there for a while.
Starting with the longest would give people less of a headache, especially because you would get a better idea of whether or not you were going to be able to manage it with your group.

Tell me, what makes a bigger difference? Skipping dredge for some other long fractal or switching swamp for some other short fractal (ascalon or underwater for example). Scenario A you can save up to half an hour (without wipes and such, otherwise even longer), scenario B about 10 minutes.
It makes absolutely sense to balance the most frustrating content first, hence the rotation long-medium-short to see which fractals (from those that actually matter) get skipped.
EDIT and while going swamp first is done 70% of the time. I’ve had my share of people go:“meh it’s underwater, let’s do that.” I’ve yet to meet someone excited about dredge or cliffside.

The total duration is the same regardless.
Sometimes people want to make a quick single fractal for dailies. Sometimes people want to make all 4 for rewards.
If it was long→medium→short, it would affect those who just have time for a daily, but it won’t really affect those doing all 4. It’s not like you need to pay less attention to the Molten bosses or the Grawl shaman than to the Mossman or the cat-golems, both will down you if you are not careful.
The only thing that really changes is the feel that “the end is closer”. Morale. Not much else.
The thing everyone is forgetting is that the fractals are designed to be random selection. You are not suppose to just spam enter and exit until you get the fractal you badly want (Swamp). Fractals are designed to be end-game hard content, so expect it to be that way. If you can’t handle it then you need to either admit you are not good at them or gear up your character(s) better/change your builds.

Only true if people didn’t skip dredge when they get the chance (or which ever fractal takes the longest for the group). I would gladly skip dredge in favor of even cliffside or any other fractal.

Fractals are neither hard nor have they ever been. Fractals at most are tedious due to mathematical health, damage and mob scaling. No matter how “good” you are, that 48 dredge fractal clown car will take 15 minutes because you have to kill a bazillion dredge. If you actually think fractals so far had anything to do with skill or were in any way hard, you might want to take your own advice and “gear up or admit you are not good at them”.

It isn’t a question of them being hard, it’s a question of them being boring and long. If the easy bits of dredge were taken out and just the difficult bits were left then that’d be fine.

You have around 40 possible daily achievements, 14 each day. Fractal runner isn’t one of them most times. And improving the experience for those who actually wanna run fractals should be more important that making 1 daily achievement easier to get a few times a week at most.
