Yes the Dredge and Flame Legion are xenophobic, but it isn’t unlikely fot them, to build the Molten Alliance under Scarlet. It was a dire situation for them when they founded it. ( Dredge Moletariat facing a revolution, and some very important persons dead. Flame Legion facing war against an enemy too powerful. Even Gaheron as a god couldn’t win it. )

But the Krait. They are xenophobic to the extreme. They kill, eat and sacrifice every non Krait they see. It’s impossible for Scarlet to work with them, they would just attack her on sight. Perhaps this one is a prelude to another Living Story Arc that will come after the Scarlet Arc.

I really like it how Anet changed Kessex. Little or big changes, foreshadowing events are a good way to make this world more living and less static. I wish you could do that more frequently Anet

You are correct in everything you say. Still doesn’t meant they aren’t gonna Scarlet this one up. Yes, Scarlet is a verb, it means to make something awful out of something that should have been good.

Fingers crossed they won’t though. Hopefully this involves the wizard’s tower as well (if there even is a wizard up there, I don’t think he’d take too kindly to a krait obelisk in his backyard), Kessex Hills is filled with great stuff, it’s one of my favorite zones before all this. When the rain falls over the fields it is very beautiful. I’m glad it seems like more players will see the zone now that it is becoming a focus. I suspect the majority never see anything outside of the centaur chain event.

I will admit, I’m definitely curious. Hopefully this has nothing to do with Scarlet and at least something to do with the impending threat of the elder dragons that we seem to have completely forgotten.

With all the hatred of Scarlet I’m seeing in this thread, you’d think people would be more eager to kill her during the invasion events instead of, say, repeatedly farming the champions.

OT: My charr necro returned to Lion’s Arch grumbling about mesmers, and sent my Asura mesmer to look into the matter. The first thing she heard was an OoW agent making snide remarks about the usefulness of mesmers, but before she could put the NPC in her place she overheard the golem remark that her mistress (Kali, I believe?) was last seen heading southwest…away from the lake and the barrier, but directly toward the large centaur camp nearby.

Gosh, I wonder what happened?

My money is on either a new world boss (overhaul of the Blood Witch, or she summons something to put Tequatl to shame) or a new primarily underwater dungeon.

If they buff the blood witch on the same scale they buffed Tequatl it might be game over for the surface dwellers.

You’re thinking of the town Triskell Quay that’s near Viathan’s Arm. The ruins in your picture used to be slightly less ruined building where some bandits would hang out, but now the Krait stripped them down for resources.

I didn’t travel to Kessex since the patch, but this is the type of things that the living story should be about. Awesome.

Being pedantic i’d have rather have had new DE’s around the area. Perhaps seeing krait chop down the forests, seeing and protecting refugees from the wrecked village etc. While it’s kinda neat to have stuff pouf overnight it’d really exploits and highlight how good the DE system is to have the wood and structures be subject to DE’s rather than the press of a dev keyboard.

USING MY AMAZING PSYCHIC POWERS I HAVE DETERMINED WHAT THE NEXT UPDATE WILL ENTAIL:

There shall be a Great Krait Obelisk revealed in the middle of Lake Viathan. Also, there will probably be a Lake Viathan Leviathan, because that name is too stupid to NOT lead to that.

We shall climb this Obelisk, fighting krait as we do, and there shall be a boss fight with Interesting Mechanics at the very top.

There shall be Mini Krait available in the Gem Store, and nobody will buy them because minis are stupid.

There may also be “buffs” that don’t actually buff anything, because Anet are mortally afraid of buffing anything that doesn’t wear Heavy Armor.

OMG…so cynical it made me laugh.

Honestly, no matter what the story is, I really hope underwater combat gets some attention. I think that portion of the game has been overlooked for far too long, and I’m hoping it’s because they’re doing some drastic updates.

So the Blood Witch event in the area has disappeared like barbecue sauce at a charr picnic, and the quaggan who used to beseech you to challenge her is now serenely strolling around singing. Quaggan-style.

I went and had a look around, not really much to see but I do like the ambient sound of thunder that helps set the scene something ominous is brewing. And they have seemed to have stripped those ruins on the north bank of all wood and stone. Next week they should include a weather effect like heavy rain and lightning in the sky.

This next patch is looking positive, its off to a good start.

I still don’t like the location though. Its too landlocked for a race that is a deep sea dweller. The Mire Sea would of been better.

I hope the really work on this dungeon like the Aquatic Ruins Fractal and include darkness in some areas, or the Flooded Castavall in Bloodtide Coast where you dive down into the depths.

WP posted a vid with his speculations few days ago, very cool vid, you guys should check it out.

It’s obvious what that is: the Krait are simply constructing their own version of the Mad King’s clock tower. It’s almost Halloween, after all. ;-)

Garrenhoff is pretty far away from Viathan Lake. The Dominion of Winds though is close by. The Tengu might feel threaten. Think of the anime Attack on Titan, the humans were living inside their giants walls peacefully for several decades then suddenly a colossal titan peeks into their haven. We shall see how tall is the obelisk soon.

I’m REALLY loving this. Something interesting happening that just happens, without a big announcement or lead in, just new things happening and appearing in the world? Perfect, and exactly how Living Story should happen. Please keep it up.

It’s simple really. The krait are preparing for christmas. That’s why they want the trees. That’s what they’re building and what the image for the next release is for. Christmas is coming early this year…

This is so cool.

As much as I want to know what the Krait are building all I’m hoping for is this: if it is a giant tower, I want a pair of diving goggles at the top so I can jump off and hopefully not hit anything on the way down.

New events exist in the area, BTW…. hang around the demolished town.

Definitely going to drop by Kessex Hills this weekend to check things out.

i wonder what Isgarren will have to say about this . Other side of the map or not i’m sure they recognize it as a threat to the area .

Yup, I goofed. Really shows my Tyrian geography skills are lackluster. The original picture I posted was Auld Red Wharf. This is Triskell Quay, still standing….well, at least the buildings…

Yup, I goofed. Really shows my Tyrian geography skills are lackluster. The original picture I posted was Auld Red Wharf. This is Triskell Quay, still standing….well, at least the buildings…

And you can still do the renown heart.

However, one thing I noticed this evening…there’s another renown heart at the south end of Viathan, where you assist the quaggan village there by killing krait, freeing captives and so on.

It’s…very difficult to complete since the barrier appeared. Most of the krait are beyond it. I won’t say it’s impossible because guildies called me away to help in the Mad King’s realm before I could experiment too much. But I wonder if this was an intended consequence?

Another theory: whatever’s going on here with the krait, they’ve involved the Hylek as well. I was swimming around the area (yes there are some places you can get to) and I noticed this pair of Hylek with the slave symbol above them. Their tribe appears to be Cuicani according to their names, but this is odd because the normal Hylek in this area are of the Tagotl tribe. Either this is a bug and didn’t get removed, or something else is going on…

If they limit this to just kessex hills which I will find disappointing I hope that central area at least gets expanded on with submerged caves and a gigantic underwater area that has opened up underneath to explore (that lake is too shallow as it is atm). Having the Leviathan swim around in that lake will just feel silly. Its like putting a whale in a pool.

I’m also not completely convinced about the way these krait are chopping down trees, then storing these perfectly piled tree trunks around. All their architecture shows them reusing boats to construct crude towers. It would of been better if they left the trees alone and ransacked the surrounding towns for materials.

With the praises of their mentors filling their heads, and the riches of battle filling their bags, the heroes ran by, slaughtering the centaur and pursuing bandits throughout the Krytan lands.

"But we must stop the Blood Witch in Viathan Lake," a few voices cried out.

But the heroes didn’t listen.

"There’s no profit in that. Let the krait have their small cave in the lake. No one swims in these waters anyway."

"I must get to Orr and stop Zhaitan!"

"Scarlet’s minions don’t swim; oh, there’s a champ!"

I think it’s important to note another thing about this. Flame and Frost had some elements like this (not many changes in the environment though) but it was less satisfying because they were just small changes with no other content for the month.

The krait update is taking place at the same time as Halloween. We can see the hints of something to come with this current update, but there’s not a lot of content related to it. That’s OK because everyone can immerse themselves in the Halloween content. There is plenty of Halloween stuff to distract yourself while you wait for the next update to hit.

You Sir, just made me fall over laughing so much from that. This is just so true. If so many people really do hate Scarlet, then I say PROVE IT. Actually go for finishing a Scarlet invasion for once. (and I’m a little sad that there was zero changes to Scarlet’s Invasions in this patch also) Me personally I’m fine with Scarlet, but if others really don’t like her, then take out that hatred on Scarlet’s Invasions. ;D

My theory, krait found some artifact from zhaitan…they have been toying with it and want to use it or think it has something to do with their prophets. Their tampering is what buffed tequatl ( ANET said tequatls power increase has a purpose in lore ). The area is this new krait obelisk, I believe it will be a dungeon where…

1. Kill leviathan underwater boss
2. Fight your way to the top
3. Kill buffed krait witch
4. ???
5. Prophet! ( lol puns )

Who knows what it’ll be but this is certainly shaping up to be kitten awesome…now give us rewards that are unique like ooo I don’t know a whole new looking set and not recolored skins? =O.

Cuicani is a title for a particular kind of fighter among the hylek, rather than a tribe marker – you can have cuicani of any tribe. (In GW1 they were paragons – in GW2, they’re melee hylek which firebreathing capability, IIRC).

So they could still be locals, although given they’re of different colours, they could just as easily be from elsewhere, especially if the krait have an underground tunnel connecting them to the Caledon coast.

Now we need good quests that add to the mystery (just look how a few things have sparked more interest than scarlet ever could), a decent cutscene to introduce the patch and set the right tone, good rewards that people actually want, unique boss models, good boss mechanics, epic dungeon design(large scale areas), introduce our antagonist early so its not just some random krait witch.

I’m sure there is more.

“We killed the witch controlling the obelisk, and the magic attracted a leviathan!”
“Defeat the leviathan with Marjory and Kasmeer and prepare for the arrival of more dsd minions!”
“Return to Claw Island to defend LA!”

Hmmm good call I was just hoping for a leviathan fight =P ran with the whole omg lake viathan Kappa =P. That could work too but I think it will be far simpler. What I would love that someone else above mentioned is story quests that add to this intrigue, I’m not going to lie traditional quests suck…but with cutscenes like GW2 has I think they would be perfect to setup mystery and intrigue regarding storyline like this…where questing sucks is when you do 2000-4000 of them just to level.
