Broken World Events
Seems to work sometimes now, as events are just rapidly repeating as soon as they finish when I did my step.

The event in Frostgorge has been broken for me since patch. Sigh.
Does guesting even do anything anymore?
Well it worked after I relogged. But the event at the sample place never spawns. And the ash legion scout is always there to just progress the story. So 4/5 on Events in Iron March.
Edit: Well entire Frostgorge chain went smoothly in one go for me. Which was a welcome relief compared to the mess that is still glitchy for me in Iron March.

Stuck at samples until I relogged ( that’s not a real fix), now ferris stuck. A wise sage named Bart once said ‘what a load of crappity crap crap’.
If this is perm content, I wonder how often the events spawn and how it scales 2 months from now? I thought that was why they went instances in LS 2 EP 1-2…….
Episodes 1 and 2 were pretty good, please go back to instances….

I actually got skipped a few quests myself when trying to gather the samples, logged back in after a crash and it sent me on anyways without having to complete it. Ended up just finishing the whole story thanks to that small bump.

Someone informed me in-game they are supposed to start when someone needing the step approaches . . . and since right now that’s a lot of people, it kicks off almost constantly.
Made it up to the Svanir event thing…which is now bugging because an NPC that shouldn’t die while fighting the 3 shamans (the Converted Frost Shaman) dies before he does all of his talking.

Bugs abound… just now I was doing the “Defend Coiled Watch” and “Drive the Sons of Svanir from Coiled Watch” events at the same time, for crying out loud. Lots of people there, and the spawns from both events at the same time had a lot of champions among them, so I got some nice loot, but still no progress on the LS story steps.
Well I destroyed the Dragon Totem in the Coiled Watch even chain…yet the story still says ‘’ Destroy the totem ’’ ..

GW1 was an MMO just not an MMORPG (source wiki) It had all instances and arguably the best part about WoW is the Raids also instanced. With instances, challenges like “Hard Mode” (in GW1) can be added and used for a reason to actually replay episodes. This current content will make episodes to replay nothing more than a common world event found in every zone.
(Said this before)
LS2 E1&2 was instanced, had a lot less problems at launch, if something bugs for you just restart and still.. it had open world co-existing beautifully with the story.
Why they wrote LS2 E3 to have the LS1 player mash up debacle is beyond me. It wasn’t because of complaints of needing more open world as this was written undoubtedly even before LS2 begain.
What part of GW1 was “Massively Multiplayer”? Cities?
GW1 was a CORPG.
Agreed CORPG. Although it did have large Kurzick Vs. Luxon PvP battles.
Anyway back on topic..
I haven’t ran into any bugged NPCs as of yet. I restarted the episode.
How about fixing those Frostgorge events next?

Not like it’s blocking my story progress or anything.
The main issue that most people are missing is not a lack of testing, or more people than expected or any of that. It’s a problem with design. These living stories should never require an open world event like this in order to progress the storyline. The storyline itself can spawn open world events to increase immersion into the happenings, but the actual story should be 100% instanced like it pretty much has been up until this point for season 2.
With the first two releases, the actual story parts were instanced. The only progression that wasn’t was just going from point a to point b. We weren’t forced to wait for an open world event to hopefully spawn and not bug out on us before we could proceed with the story. The design of part 1 and 2 of this season was perfect and exactly the formula A.Net should always use from now on. What they did with this part is a breeding ground for the bugs and issues we are seeing now. Stop designing the story this way, and go back to what you were doing. It worked perfectly how you were doing it.
I agree with those pointing out that lack of testing isn’t always the issue. This kitten just happens. Testers and devs can only come up with so many scenarios to run. Load testing is only viable to an extent. Hell, even TDD (test driven development) isn’t bug free. Developers and testers are human, and as such have limitations. Bugs aren’t just an issue with games either. Do consider that other software that spends years in development and testing also tends to contain bugs, sometimes potentially very harmful bugs.

While this is true, testing needs to account for typical cases, and that seems to be lacking.
Anet is all gung-ho for megaservers, and what that amounts to in the current megaserver implementation is 150 random people all squeezed into the same event/area.
So when multiple problems occur because there are 150 people all jam packed into trying to do the same event, it shows a lack of testing the very typical expected use case.
To me (and others above) its not about testing and programming bugs and so on. While the bugs are there (now) a lot of the above comments are simply about a change in format of living stories into open world that is just not needed which caused these sorts of complications in the first place.
Back on topic:
I have reached the Blazeridge Steppes portion of LS2 E3 and only had a minor hiccup waiting for the Svanair dolyak escort to dragon totem thus far.
TIP: The events on the Henge of Denravi server are working perfectly. If the event isn’t working on your server, guest on HoD. That’s what I did to finish Episode 3.
Well… another night, another stuck event. This sure is a novel way to stretch the content out over 2 weeks.

Guested over to HoD, and same event (Svanir at Coiled Watch) was bugged as well as on whatever MS I was on before. From what I read on Twitter, they’re still working on another hotfix.

I’d expect a few bugs but…
I’m encountering stalls in EVERY STEP of this kitten episode. Episode 1 and 2 were fantastic. Episode 3 has been overshadowed by these persistent event killing bugs. For an event to kick off and actually work first time… I can’t even imagine what that looks like.
What happened with this one?

Looks like you can sometimes catch a working copy of a zone by using guesting to try to get assigned to a different megaserver. Zone out of the affected zone, go to the character screen, guest to a different server, log back in. Both times I’ve done it when re-entering the zone while guesting I’ve gotten a different megaserver that wasn’t hosed.

Walk up to the totem after the event, and you’ll get the prompt to destroy it by interacting with it. That will open the next story instance right next to you.

Unfortunately, the totem can be destroyed that way at some earlier point. If you do that, assuming you might as well get it over with, you’re sentencing yourself to having to restart the whole event chain again, because it doesn’t count if you destroy it early. I’m assuming that’s what Xiahou did and I know that’s what I did.
It’s just badly scripted. Either allow it to be destroyed early and have it count, or don’t allow it to be destroyed early.
i cant start the summit invasions mission. he just keeps telling me to wait for the dolyacks…………………………………………i am absolutely tired of EP3 and its open world bugs.
This looks as if it’s finally fixed. The Frostgorge chain went perfectly after latest update.

Bunch of people standing around hoping the event restarts and starts working again.
*edit- The event did restart and finally worked after 10-15 minutes, though there were those that left in frustration after last night’s events. I almost logged out for the night myself to wait until tomorrow. Glad I waited, now hopefully, everything esle goes smoothly.

guess i hit the jackpot and was able to finish the episode. now that its don, i am never touching it again, screw the extra rewards. getting through this EP was painful.

Are you sure it wasn’t the new map, enemies, rewards, open world events, exploration?
Still bugged Frostgorge for me. Fenris is just saying go check out the totem remains, but even clicking those does nothing.

Just wanted to pop in and say that we are investigating the issues with the iron marches content as fast as we can so that we can get you guys back to progressing through the episode. These issues are indeed proving quite tricky to nail down (it’s not as simple as they simply won’t restart) but we are working hard to get everything addressed as quickly as possible.

I like everything you mentioned, but instanced LS is my preference. This stuff breaking or being buggy seemingly due to huge groups just isn’t my cup of tea.. My time is so limited, especially during the week, that the last thing I wanna do is sit around with a bunch of people hoping events work.. and like last night, logging out, my time wasted, when they didn’t.
The zergfests just aren’t alot of fun either. Things die/happen so fast, I simply can’t take the time to enjoy the story.

try logging out then logging in back to the event or try guesting on another server. i know its not a “real” fix, but it got me through the bugs and i was able to finish this mess of a story. once you get through the open wold parts the story runs fine. according to the official twitter page, they fixed a crashing bug, i don’t know what bug they fixed because the game will still crash the chain but they say they fixed 1.

They’ve chosen their own business model, so I’d say it’s fair to expect a working product. You cannot always hide behind the fact that it’s free so it’s alright for the quality to be lower.
But yes otherwise I’m willing to wait until I can do one event, story progress blocking bugs would be my nr 1 priority to fix right now.

You have to personally be the one to interact with it. My GF had the same issue and fixed it by following me into the instance I could spawn then heading immediately out again. She saw the intact crystal again and could destroy it.
