Togonn Windmane
- Get in a party and use your own ranged and evade skills, not Caithe’s melee ones. Only the story owner becomes Caithe, others keep their own skills as wardens.
- Range elementals, dodge walls, stay out of whirlpools.
- Use some +X% Endurance regeneration food.
- (In case you did,) do not try all achievements at once. The challenge mode has more phases and walls and chances of screwing up are several times higher if you’re focusing on multiple things.
Yeah, I’m going to have to try him in a party tonight, I did the same and tried challenge mode for an hour alone last night and the closest I got him was about 25% left on my own before all the walls and sand swirls and other crap would essentially one shot me because I’d run out of dodges. And unlike story, he goes to full hp when you die. Not fun. This seemed less like a challenge to do alone, like other challenge motes I’ve done, and more “hope you can get friends, or you shall not pass.”
Altaholic, can never have just one!
It took me 3 tries to beat him. I usually go for the spinning attack as I thought it gave me the best results and use the other skills to buffer it up.
Don’t party up, it will be chaotic.
Strategy is,
Put on your toughness/vitality gear+traits. Will give you lots of damage mitigation on the range attack he throws at you.
Everytime adds spawn, go to edge, create distance and put trap in between (more to your side). Kite the adds bit and use 2 skill if necessary to finish it off, or melee while it’s on trap.
After, if stealth up, use it, press 1 shadowstep to him. If walls closing in, use skill 3 or the run one. Otherwise, you’ll need to manually close him in, 2 skill is handy here.
When he goes invul again, don’t tail him, create distance again.
Save your dodge as much as you can, dodge accordingly. If you can run out of the way of wall, do so, don’t take easy way out dodging.
Rinse repeat.
When things gets hairy near the end, there is 1 side of cliff you can actually climb, i forgot which side, you’ll be only taking his throw and ground spike damage which is minimal, use it to recover. This is where the damage mitigation from your toughness and vitality ^ up there will be handy (it’s capped i think, but you want to max it out).
I was running Carrion, with Toughness and Vitality traits full. For challenge achv btw.
Hope it helps.

I beat him by disabling his shield while he was standing on a sand storm… it took away 50% of his health. Not sure if it was a bug or not, but it worked.
Mh in my opinion he is not overpowerd. He his not easy and should be a little challange.
Im far away to be realy good, but i have him beaten in the first try. x3
Tips… uhm… use the skills… watch out what happens.
I mean… mh you have three dodge skills + 2 normal dodges.
Use heal on cd or to dodge from windwalls, use sprint when this windwalls are up.
Use the whirl near him, so you hit the elementals and instant himself, when the ele is down.
Use the jump reflection for his ranged attack, so he take massiv damage from it i think.
You are faster in whirlwind, use it to get away from this windwalls when you are crippled.
Use stealth only when you can beat him. So he dont attack you in this few seconds.

Oh, one more thing!
Go to Options – Graphics – Post Processing – None. It will greatly help with visibility in these highly postprocessed environments.
In challenge mode this is stupid, we tried this for an hour as a 3 man party, we get him down to 20% then he spawns eles of death all over the place, you cant evade as you only get 2 evades and you need about 50 its nearly impossible to avoid the walls of instant death that come from 5 sides at the same time,
Im all up for any challenge in the game, but this is just an armor repair battle.
he just swarm me with his stonewalls.. ridiculous
Only the story owner becomes Caithe, others keep their own skills as wardens.
Sadly broken for engi kits and ele summons. Which means I won’t be doing any damage to him regardless.

Challenge mode = Cheaper gimmicks and worse design.
Caithe is pretty op: massive damage, lots of moblity and iframes, a reflect, stealth that doesn’t reveal you even when you attack and to top it off everything has super low cooldowns.
This is just a L2P issue, read what the skills do, use them at the right time and the fight will be a breeze.

Don’t party up, go solo.
See my post up there for tips ^.
Go full toughness/vitality traits 6/6 on your class (pick everything that has regen and protection). Wear toughness/vitality gear.
1(stealth backstab), 2 and trap are your top dps on Caithe.
I just reran for 3rd time on warrior, worn full pvt and toughness vitality traits ,everything tickles. 30khp 2,9karmor. Dw about the damage, Caithe’s 1(backstab),2and trap hit like a truck.

Did Wicked Rodeo yesterday with a group. After we found out that reflect and absorbs works for the walls, we finally managed it. If you have enough reflect to perma reflect/absorb walls it gets easy as you just have to stand close and avoid standing in the sandstorms.
Yeah, after a while on it, this fight kinda sucks. It’s not even fun. I really don’t know what a Dev was thinking with this one. The stat scaling is wonky as it’s not just a costume we’re wearing. Also having to party isn’t the way the personal stories should work imho.
After finally beating him last night with a guildie, it seems to come down to a combination of skill and luck. I played as Caithe, they were on their ranger, and swapped to bear pets and the perma regen build. Kiting the elementals through Caithes caltrops, then going invisible to hit Togonn worked best. The luck part is how many wind walls he spawns, and from what direction. You get a bunch of dodges with Caithe, but it’s very easy to dodge the wrong way. Each pip of wind wall is 5k damage (could also be a percentage of your HP, I have about 19k) so you run into 4 pips with bad placement and spawn luck and it’s game over.
Altaholic, can never have just one!
I soloed it on my zerker necro, died 4 times to the point of being naked, but still beat him. Fast paced tho, I think it took me maybe 4 minutes of hit him for 20%, die, respawn, repeat. It took longer to run from checkpoint than the whole hit him-die phase.
Play the game the way you like!
Except for this. You will be a thief. Not only that, you’ll be a thief with skills that are different than other thieves.
Got it done, but it was ZERO fun.
Best advice on this thus far is to turn off post processing. That searingly bright effect is a hindrance. The easiest way to do this fight is to party with someone whom already has the achievements and let them do the fighting. I went Banner Regen Warrior and tanked the fight well. Just have those needing the achievements sit on the ledge in the south west corner and range attack. Mesmer’s are good for this as their GS range attack cannot be reflected by the Earth Elemental’s shield. Of course an Ele with Ice Bows and FGS is awesome.
I still dislike how our stats on Caithe are fairly locked. Though I believe if you equip a Toy Ventari mini, it’ll shake it’s head at Faolain the whole time. It even laughs if you let her died repeatedly. Which I may in fact have done, repeatedly.
A tip for challenge mode if you want to do it with more people. Bring REFLECTS, they work against the sand wall thing he summons. It makes this achiev so much easier if you have some guardians with you.
I did this in a full group (5 people). My advice would be to do some (or all) of the following:
- Get some cheap endurance regeneration food: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bowl_of_Meat_and_Winter_Vegetable_Stew
- Have access to vigor
- Have another player or two to help—especially if you’re the one who entered
- The shield comes back up after a certain time, not after certain amounts of damage. The moment the shield is down, it’s all about dealing as much damage as possible before the shield is up again.
- Turn off post-processing (set it to none) in graphics so you have an easier time seeing his attacks.
- Skills that can absorb/block multiple attacks
- Reflects help out too
did it last night with full party . it was horrible. we just couldn’t kill him. many die towards the end of fight due to too many sand pool.
luckily i already have 3 characters done for the story, and on of them is my warrior. i made him a tanky warrrior with shout and regen, and we re-enter the mission with me tanking the elementals while other dpsing them. i still manage to die near the end though but my group still succeeded.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Oh, don’t forget these are Centaurs and we have potions for that.
After many, many fails, I finally got this. Full party of 5 including 2 Guardians, one of them me. Full Cleric’s gear, plus Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew; I only ran out of dodges a couple of times, and the walls that hit me weren’t nearly enough to take me down (I was downed once, due to my own stupidity, but fortunately someone else managed to rez me). Also – I’d never used Wall of Reflection before (in fact, I hadn’t even bought it!), but it’s absolutely the canine’s genitalia for this achievement. I spent half the event looking for chances to bounce stuff back at Windmane; even got him once or twice. Great fun. At the end we had three downed, and the two guardians running around – and, suddenly, it was over, and we’d won. The relief was, frankly, intense. Then I spent an agonising three minutes thinking “Please, PLEASE don’t DC me now” until the achievement was actually awarded… I aged 3 years in as many minutes. Thanks, Anet! Next time, hand out achievements as soon as they’re completed, maybe?!?
Oh, and yes – TURN OFF POSTPROCESSING. Best tip ever.
