Q:
Aetherized Pauldrons... Not new skins?
A:
Apparently not.
At least you can sell them for 70s to a vendor if the stats don’t appeal to you.
Edit: welp, the 3s you get now. :x

Of course not lol! You really think anet wouldn’t be lazy this time?
I love how the shoulder pads couldn’t be salvaged, or sold in the Tradepost…
I resorted to selling to a merchant, and I was grateful to do just that and at least get something out of it.
EDIT: the image below is “Overhype Mike” that says everything GW2 fans want to hear, but never actually does it. Sorry if I got you all excited, but it’s not an actual quote.

It’s not a huge bummer I guess, but if that’s a direct quote, these aren’t really unique at all when they’re an existing skin. xD;;
I’d be all for it if they were soulbound on acquire and unique. Maybe it’s a bug and they’ll fix it with a patch.

The “unique” was a joke XD
I am using “rare” and “unique” hype speaking, I am dubbing “A-Netian Talk” that A-Net uses, it is very Orwellian in nature… sarcastic even… like they think we don’t know better.

I would have been interesting if they had used them to introduce a new stat spread or something… That was my second thought, but it’s a Cleric spread
i will laugh if they change the skin for them and you all threw them away. obviously this might be corrected later on since he’s been quoted saying one thing and then giving us something already in game.
tldr bait n switch is against the law.

He didn’t say that, that image is “Overhype Mike” that says everything GW2 fans want to hear, but never does it.
They are not switching the shoulder skins… it took these guys 7 months to give us new armor.

True, but they’ve had individual armor pieces that were new scattered throughout. Southsun shoulders, all the shoulders from Halloween, the back pieces from a ton of stuff… I wouldn’t be surprised.

Yeah, that’s why I’m holding onto them for now. Once it’s been confirmed that they aren’t supposed to be unique skins I’ll vend them. So it’s new skins, or 3.6g across my six toons. I guess I’m okay either way xD
Patchhhh
We shall see if it’s in this one. If it’s going to happen at all xD;
EDIT: Nope. Ah well, like I said, it’s decent gold to vend them.

Fixed a bug that caused the sale value of the exotic shoulders that drop from the Aetherblade jumping puzzle to be higher than intended.
Good game…
The shoulders now vendor for 3 silver.
so not only are they
1. not unique
2. cleric stats
but now they suck as Vendor fodder too? lol I’ve done every event since i started this game except this one.

Lol, that’s the most unique thing I’ve heard on the forums.
It was a “bug”. They accidentally put a 6 instead of a 3, and added a 0.
Disappointing. But hey…at least the mini pet is unique.

3. Cannot be salvaged…
Brilliant incentive to do the puzzle there.

That is… ridiculous. What is the point of that unless you’re a shoulderpadless Guardian that uses that set?
With the price nerf they really ought to change the skin into something unique. This JP has been such a huge disappointment all around.
Really strange they changed the price on these. Actually not really, cause people would just farm the jp and vendor it. :/ Can’t have nice things these days I swear.

It wouldn’t have been that bad if it was a one loot per toon thing… Or account daily.
Ah well. The puzzle itself was really fun.

They fixed that pretty quick
They could’ve just used the Tribal and Stalwart skins instead.
For those that don’t know, these skins are available in pvp but not pve for some unknown reason.

Yeah, I’d kill for the tribal ones.
WHAT?!
The price was a “bug” ????
are you kidding me Anet?
Do you really enjoy screwing over and dissapointing your fan base THIS MUCH?
Seriously?!
Oh my god…
Working as intended. rofl.

Or, you know, the new Aetherblades ones. It might have even motivated some players to buy the full set to complete the outfit, that otherwise wouldn’t have thought to buy it.
A missed opportunity for everyone, if you ask me.
The shoulders as they are now, are useless to me. It’s exactly the skin I’m wearing anyway. They really should be salvageable and/or free for TP. In turn, limited to one per character.

But, but you don’t do a JP for an item reward. There’s something wrong with you. Also tell me how many JP in the game have 3 chests and an exotic at the end?

Well, the exotic doesn’t really count as an exotic though, does it, if you can’t do anything with it
I’m really, REALLY looking forward to doing the jumping puzzle tonight after work; I’ve heard good things about it from my friends and yes, that will be my reward.
All I’m saying is that the exotic shulders were marketed as a special reward, when in fact, they’re absolutely useless to most players, so ANet might as well not have bothered putting them in the chest at the end, let alone calling them a special reward.
I didn’t need an item reward for the JP in the first place, but the way it was presented by ANet got people’s expectations up for an item they could use, sell, or salvage.

Yep… because you get such great rewards from other JPs. I don’t know why anyone is unhappy at this… you’re getting a free exotic that you can use if you want to. If you don’t, then you’ve lost nothing. It’s the exact some thing that happened with the ‘Mad King’s Slippers’ at Halloween, btw.
They are not switching the shoulder skins… it took these guys 7 months to give us new armor.
Each new armour piece requires 30 iterations: 3 armour classes, 2 genders, 5 races. Multiply that by six if you want whole sets. And then test that they work and don’t clip, etc, with every combination of armour pieces already in game. That’s why we’ve gotten so many new weapon sets, because they’re so much easier.
Should make them salvageable at least, now the vendor price has dropped to 3s.
But, but you don’t do a JP for an item reward. There’s something wrong with you. Also tell me how many JP in the game have 3 chests and an exotic at the end?
I missed the part where I was raging. At any point in this thread. Somethingwrongwithyouformakingsillyassumptions? Like I said, the JP itself was great fun.
It just threw me that they had their own unique name, same drop from every chest without it being a new skin. “Aetherized Pauldrons” made (I’m honestly willing to bet) the majority of people think that they would be an event skin, or something. Since they aren’t salvageable or TP-able, it seems like that would be the purpose. But in this case, it just feels a little… random. Not bad. Not terrible design, not rage-worthy, just weird. I think we’re just confused as to what the logic was behind the decision to make these a guaranteed loot when there’s not… really anything super unique about them.
Also, the Mad King items were different. They’re able to be put on the TP, and I’m pretty sure you can salvage them as well.
Why am I not surprised that Anet would disappoint me yet again with content? I actually was at first a little excited to know that I’d be getting a unique, exotic piece…but it is..
-not unique
-bad stats for essentially every class except a guardian, and MAYBE an engineer or ranger depending on their playstyle
-not salvageable
-not worth getting
And on top of all of that, it included a pretty significant bug, showing yet again the lack of testing Anet does with their content.
I really don’t think Anet can handle content updates every two weeks…they can’t even provide good, fun, rewarding, or even worthwhile content once a month -.-
