I’m currently in the 50s on my Elementalist, so my experience is limited mostly to open world exploration with non-optimized builds. However, something has been bugging me for a long time now -

Why in the world is Fire soooooo much stronger than anything else? Earth can come close if I get a lot of condi stuff, but Water and especially Air seem to sacrifice too much damage for the utility they bring. I get it to an extent with Water because it’s heavy on party support, although I definitely think it’s weaker than it needs to be, but Air is just awful on pretty much every set except Trident – am I missing something? Does it have something to do with scaling or something?

You mean as far as damage? The base damage and scaling is higher on fire which in a way is a bonus because you don’t have to spec heavy condi damage for it. The thing with fire is that it stacks duration and not intensity. Where as earth = bleeds and you can stack 5 stacks doing 100 per stack.

Not sure exactly if your asking about condition damage though. Fire is the power line so it does well because it is fire. Air is crit chance and crit damage so you want those to get the damage out of it but it is certainly there.

Lightning whip on Dagger in Air attunement is one of the best dps tools Elementalists have.
