Fix Fire Grab and Dragons tooth.
dragons tooth is fine the way it is.
Its perfect for:
zoning
ress denial
stomp denial
blast finishers
In a 1v1 in an open area you should RARELY ever cast dragons tooth (unless you want to stack might). It will not work.
Even after an updraft combo it is way more beneficial to go straight for a phoenix than dragons tooth.
Some of your suggestions for dragons tooth would put it out of line IMO.
One thing I think could be changed though is how dragons tooth will do zero damage when you are interrupted even after its been cast but that’s it.
Aiming wise I think fire grab is fine. Just takes some practice. I’ve come to accept that you need to be on top or in the face of your opponent to land it near 100%.
Could the damage be higher?….sure… (saying this tentatively cuz this thing can HURT when it crits when target is burned) but all in all I’m fine with everything.
The game needs more skill shots IMO.
If your lucky enough you can land a DT in combination with an immobilize.
However, I think Fire Grab could use some work. ATM if you are lagging it will miss regardless of where you are relative to your target. You have to predict where they will be in order to hit them.

Or make it actually a grab so like hold your target if hes in range and deal the damage

Like a grappling punch, that would be interesting

Atm this happens with all our delayed skills. for example: staff water 2 and earth 2

It would be both more efficient and less frustrating at all of the above were it ground targeted.
Stop using your keyboard to turn around and you might hit with the skill. Fire Grab is an amazing skill and it should be untouched.

^I feel like it would still only be useful in those situations. Idk I’m just content. I’ve preferred scepter over dagger for a long time now and the buffs keep giving me less of a reason to look back. Plus Phoenix does everything I need it to and more in terms of damage from fire.

My keyboard doesn’t turn, its bound to strafe on a and d. Skill still misses though on my end its more a lag issue I believe.

DT is a #2 skill on a 6sec CD. No way should it be a press’n’pray spam skill, it’s stupid.
Would be better for Eles and the game if DT were the ground-target skill, and phoenix fired in a straight line or homed to a target.
Noo no ground targeted DT just make it slightly homing, reduce time it is hovering in the air and dont let it do 0 dmg wen u get cc’ed after its cast
What about if DT were moved to focus #4 (with a slightly longer CD), as its actual uses are an offensive form of defense (area denial, zoning, stomp denial), and instead give scepter 2 a proper offensive skill that can be used to more reasonably do damage. This would make S/F way more useable as it is not a complete sacrifice on offense vs. S/D, and fits the theme of offensive-defense for fire.
Scepter-2 on fire should be more reliable damage, perhaps similar to staff 3. For comparison, Dagger 2 (dragon’s breath) and staff 2 (lava font) both do decent damage, burn, and can be used frequently. They are also more reliable for getting a few hits. A new suggestion for Fire Scepter-2
Firebomb
Cast time: 0.75 s, Recharge: 6s
Damage: 300, area 200
Burning: 2s
Call down a single bomb of fire from the sky, dealing damage in the area
Animation: similar to comet.
Of course, the numbers need to be tuned. Dragon’s tooth should be given a longer cooldown and make a fire field after falling. The idea is that Dragon’s tooth will act like engineer’s BoB for area control. Perhaps it should be cast at the player’s area as opposed to the enemies.

No thank you i don’t want Dragon’s Tooth on my focus. Rework the skill and make it ground targeted or replace it with a new skill.
If it become gorund targeted, it’s the end of ele cleaning WvW defense … don’t want it to happen :’(
…
It does the job well :-)

Ground targeting doesn’t affect objects? O_o

I goes through line of sight, what he means to say is his ele career in WvW will end due to no longer being able to exploit the crap out of it.

Ground target dragon’s tooth is a dumb idea. It’s already hard enough to hit on someone that has half a brain, making it ground target would require you to lead it to where the enemy would be running which is what phoenix is for. Dragon’s tooth just wouldn’t work as a ground target skill, look at the staff’s #2 water skill.

If it’s ground targeted, whether or not it hits will be up to your skill as a player. As it is now, it’s practically an automatic miss in spite of that or any other factors.
TGSlasher: I see. Well that is an exploit, so doesn’t really change anything else than fixing the issues the skill has.
Dragon’s Tooth is only effective in PvE, in some scenarios where you either kite your enemy into it or mobs are standing still.
With ground targeting you could put it where they are running next.

Yea, focus water 5 (comet) is the same, as long as you are in range. I use DT for 7-9k crits in pvp, how? Focus air 5 (on a good day with no lag) or signet of earth. Hold them still and murder the cap out of them. This works 20% of the time, usually the cleanse or stun break.
The problem I see with them making it ground target is they will possibly remove a chunk of damage off it.

If you put 10 points in fire and use a Signet of Earth, you can immobilize someone long enough for the DT to hit. However I do believe that making the animation time shorter might make the burst build a tad too wild, although I believe it could be lowered a tad to work with updraft/gale/EQ.

This can be done without 10 in fire. Use the 10% bonus from Lyssa runes, or the food in WvW (I don’t play WvW atm, spvp all the way). This can help to not terribly change your build (as finding 10 points can be a pain)

You are right, but personally I do not like sacrificing runes and find the 10 points in fire to be alright if you focus on damage. I would prefer putting the 10 points elsewhere, though.
