Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
Sup guys!
A couple weeks ago I had asked you guys of your opinions on Mesmer. Plenty of people from both PvP and WvW chimed in with some awesome feedback, so I flipped the question the other way around for Mesmer. I figured ya’ll may be interested to see what we think of you.
So basically most people say they win against elementalists in 80% of the cases, which goes to show that the class isn’t quite where it needs to be.
Yeah its harder to win against good D/D eles but good D/D eles are rare and you can still win rather easily against them if you are careful.
Ideally you want to be able to win against every class at 50-60% , to say that those classes are balanced.
I like how one of the posts descrbied how Anet balances elementalists : “They keep going from free kill, to tank and back to free kill.”
Which basically describes us right now, as tank.

And some of them even want the Ele nerfed a bit more.
You also have to point out that the Mesmers posting in the OP’s thread say there are pretty much only two builds they fight (D/D with water/arcana/cantrips and S/F with Fresh Air), which also illustrates how limited the Ele is in terms of viable (for PvP) builds.
WvW sees more use of the staff for fighting in groups, dolly escorts or camp capping, but I have to agree that I am a tasty target in WvW, when I am caught off guard and have to 1vs1 without my D/D weapons.
Staff is perfectly viable in PvP, so we have a total of three main builds.

But (I might have missed that?) they don’t feel staff Eles as a threat to Mesmers, because AoE damage does not pose a significant threat to their builds.
(Please correct me, when I am wrong, but the build variety outside Blasting Staff, Elemental Attunement and Evasive Arcana isn’t that big for staff builds these days, too. )
You are correct, only S/F has more build variety in the meta.
I play staff frequently and it is true that I pose little threat to mesmers, but they cannot stand on point. I can usually survive long enough, therefore I call this a win.

Staff is a backline support, if you are caught 1v1, by almost anyone, chances are that if they aren’t bad, you are dead.
And people that whine that they are OP, are the people that actually never tried the class, are bad at their own class, and ran into a good elementalist.
My friend was also like “lel, you suck in PvP, elementalist isn’t that hard, haha”
And so, i’m like – well if i suck, then how about you duel me?
The result? 4 out of 4, in my favour, as D/D ele tank build, and he plays GS mesmer, yet he has much more success in PvP overall than me, even tho he can’t play Mesmer as well as he thinks he does.
Aside from that tho, the rest of the mesmers i meet, i win maybe 1/2 times against them, and then there are the “good” mesmers that will totally wreck me with no chances.

Let’s see, a dps mesmer who is good I will win 50% of the time, depending on their burst. If they get it at a good time, I’m basically dead, if I dodge some of it, they are dead, both of those vary because some Mesmers react well, sometimes the burst doesn’t kill me, I heal, and win. Against a Condi mesmer, it is really a toss up. If they time their confusion burst right after I get to water and heal, I’m absolutely screwed, if They stack confusion when my water is off CD, I can cleanse and burst pretty well, and usually win or we are both very low.

You can toss in a signet build for 4, and yes staff is viable ( I even find it more effective than D/D for me thanks to 6k+ hours using staff now ), however it seems like those who are capable of it are in the single digits.
:(
Staff is actually great, fun and challenging in PvP. Great support in direct damage, condition, cc, and heal. I wish more people knew how to synergise with a staff ele and position themselves accordingly to take better advantage of the fields/wards, but it’s fun to watch out your allies movements and supporting them while controlling the battlefield. And that spices things up when you’re targetted by thieves at close range and rangers from the other side of the map.

Readymade is a very very good staff ele. He can win 1v1 against d/p thief easily, much less for a mesmer. On point, he can hold it for days, unless getting trained by a pain train duo.
I could design my ele to kill class X 99% of the time. That does not mean my class is OPed. GW2 allows you custom build your ele to suit your needs/group/setups
