I see a lot of people speculating about the idea of what type of weapon ele’s will be getting for the expansion, but I don’t really see this thought come up:

What about the Class Mechanic? The team has stated that they wanted to alter the class mechanics of those characters that select an elite specialization. This works for many classes on a relatively simple level. Necros get new, melee-oriented skills, Mesmers get a new shatter, guardians get a few active ability changes… but what about elementalists?

Elementalists are tied to their current class mechanic in a way that basically no other class is, in that their class mechanic fundamentally governs the skills to which they have access. Any change to this mechanic would drastically alter the way elementalists play, to the point that, even if they didn’t get a single new weapon, something as simple as changing the elemental attunements, or somehow adding to them, would create a huge spread of new skills and strategies.

I’m not sure something that drastic would occur, but it’s something to think about.

Don’t get your hopes up, we won’t get any new or changed mechanic, 8 skills on warhorn will be our “mechanic”.

Why? Because if we’d actually get something new our traits would be worded otherwise. Look how necro traits since the patch refer to Death Shroud simply as Shroud in skills because their elite spec gets Knight Shroud or whatever it’s called.

Yet all our traits still only talk about single attunements, and a lot specifically mention the 4 different attunements.

So we won’t get a new attunement at least. Combining 2 attunements like people suggested also wouldn’t make sense because it would break a LOT of traits. Chosing 1 attunement and getting weapon swap instead also wouldn’t work because it would create even more imbalanced through the current traits.

The only thing that could possibly work is simply a single cooldown skill as F5 which would be very strange because it’d break the simple design of “F skills = attunements”. Though maybe something like “empower current attunement” could work as an F5, though again I’m counting on us not getting any actual new mechanic or at least whatever new thing we’ll get will be bound to warhorn.

Technically if warhorn had a skill called “Vuvuzela Vortex” that feared everyone around you it would be a new mechanic for us. Technically.

I seriously hope it’s not Warhorn. What a boring weapon.

The necro traits have been worded differently after the Necro specialization was announced.
Wording the traits way before announcing the Ele specialization means killing the hype and the anticipation, which isn’t something ANet is looking for.

I’m legitimately laughing at vuvuzela vortex lol. If they did implement war horn I think it could possibly be pretty powerful although I’m 100% against it. The Guild Wars universe is riddled with mighty horns of the elemental sort already so it could be interesting (please don’t give us horn!) http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Stormcaller

Personally, I’m hoping for a new element. It would be a ton of work, but they could outright replace earth or fire with “Aether.” They’d have to make… 17 weapon skills, plus new effects for glyphs and for various Arcane traits, but it would be so cool.
