I personally played D/D ele sicne release, got my 2 incinator and full ascended trinkets

So now they tell me my build is no longer viable due to
Mist Form: No utilities or heals can be cast for the duration of this skill.
Ride the Lightning: Now recharges 40 seconds out of combat after use, 20 seconds if you hit a target with it
Signet of Restoration: Reduced passive heal, unknown amount
Water Grandmaster Trait: Removes only one condition every five seconds now.

So they take away mobillity and Heal!?
Its ok to nerf a dd ele, but why in hell would you do it like this
out of my 7 Characters i played like 1.3k hour on my ele and like 150 on all the others together

now tell me one reason to keep playing GW2

This is actually a perfectly reasonable change, although inadequate and uncompensated for. Unless your playstyle involves spamming Cantrips for condition removal, it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Although I do wish they’d modify the GoEH so that it removed a condition by default.

This is actually a perfectly reasonable change, although inadequate and uncompensated for. Unless your playstyle involves spamming Cantrips for condition removal, it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

I agree. The only nerf I’m super annoyed about it RtL. We still have a lot of ways to mitigate conditions even with that trait nerf.

Looks like the whining thieves finally got their way. I can’t wait till they finally get hit by nerf after nerf so they can see what its like. Well I was looking for a reason to quit this game and go back to Aion once the Bard class comes out. Looks like I have my reason now.

This is not only a hit in the face for DDs. As a staff ele in WvW I use mistform and heal or utility to reposition myself all the time on the field.

The devs are just throwing out random kitten now not even thinking about balance.

I’m not even sure if scepter/dagger will be worth using for damage with the RtL change, and if it isn’t I’m gonna have to go staff because I HATE being restricted to melee range, which means I’m not really going to be able to kill anyone…

Heh, yeah, as I wrote in my post in Fish’s thread about this, been rolling D/D since release and gathered up laurels and everything to fully kit her out in ascended trinkets. Well, except rings, which I got from FOTM. Lately, as I was getting bored a bit, I’ve been entertaining the notion to make her gearset “complete” and grind out a pair of incinerators, even started working towards it a little. Guess that won’t happen with this change, since I don’t see myself playing my main any if this goes live.

Bunch of laurels wasted anyway. Overall, this change kinda feels like a slap in the face – I did my dailies every day and everything to get the ascended trinkets, and this change makes me feel.. “why bother anymore?”. I mean OK, so, what if I shelf my main, maybe find another profession that I’ll enjoy equally (doubt it, tried everything but necro and ranger so far, my engineer’s been parked basically since he hit 80 a while back),… what’s to say that they won’t do the same to that class – so I go out, get everything I want for it, feel satisfied about the build and the effort I put into getting said gear as I want it to be, just to get it taken away by a random sweeping change which will ruin the profession,.. kinda sad. These kinds of changes should be done, well, with a much, much, much lighter touch. I really don’t care about the reasoning behind it – fact is, the class was like this from launch onwards – there was plenty of time to “fix” it earlier, or seriously say “guys, eles bla bla, nerfs incoming, be prepared!”.. this is just.. meh.. and insulting in a way.

So, yea.. I getcha.

It’s almost like anet are allergic to my money or something. Every time I get ready to drop some dosh on gems for the month they go and balls something up.

But while its amusing to go rabid hyperbole mode with the news, its still pretty frustrating that they refuse to bring other builds/weaponsets up to the same level of usefulness and instead just focus on whats working now and constantly tweaking it. Whats working now should evolve over time as you fix and adjust other areas of the system that are completely useless, as the devs have already seen & commented on in the video. It only takes a minutes glance at the ele traitlines to see numerous ’turtle’s defense’ type traits.

The RtL change is really annoying and better be a pvp only thing. It’s just about the most fun thing in the game for traveling in pve.

The message is clear from Anet. Play thief or warrior, or quit. The two most OP faceroll classes are getting buffed, but the all the ones that needed serious buffs in certain areas are getting nerfs in their few actually useful abilities. Do they have a lobotamized monkey working on balancing this game?

You do realize that in PvP, the Elementalist is hands down the single strongest class in the game by far while the Warrior is a joke right? I can’t comprehend how someone can think these two are even remotely on the same level.

Eles need buffs in certain areas (like Staff) that they aren’t getting in this patch, no doubt, but stop complaining about Thieves. Thieves have one mechanic that combined with a glass cannon build is near-broken in PvP and are otherwise quite a bad class. Frankly, they need buffs in more areas that Elementalists do.

Bleed build with twin swords and a longbow. I just watch people melt as they attempt to run away from me. Now it will be even easier. guardians are easy badges. I’ve spent nearly 500 hours on my guardian, i know how they work. They arent that tough if you know how they work. AH will only work if they have allies near them, alone they have limited condition removal, and most guardians use shouts rather than that med skill that cleanses. I usually open with an autoattack to remove the aegis then pin them with the bow attack and stack on bleeds. Then i usually just finish them with the sword’s burst ability. And isnt warrior gettign some sort of boon hate thing so they deal more damage based on the buffs? Indirect nerf to guardians, making it even easier as i stated before.

This is true for any profession in the game. The problem with Eles is that for some reason (perhaps 20 weapon skills?) many, MANY people refuse to learn how they work, continue to parrot disinformation about the profession, and then complain ad infinitum until the nerfbat hits Eles hard enough that they go sailing over the Green Monster.

Crappy players will have a tough time killing any profession, Eles just make these players LOOK really bad in YouTube videos, such as peoples’ comments pointing out that the 5 players who just took a CE in the face didn’t even try to interrupt.

I’ve always felt that the whinestorm regarding Ele’s OPness comes from terribad players, the fact that many also experience public humiliation from the exposure of their infantile gameplay abilities surely factors into it.

I guess my only options now are quit or roll Thief. Probably going to quit, an MMO that supposedly is gearing towards e-sports and competitive gameplay needs a stable base of well balanced classes, and should be resistant to handing out nerfs on the whims of the chaff players.

I’ve played as every single profession and got bored with them after awhile. I think the only ones that arent fully geared in 80 exotics are engineer and necro, can’t be bothered to check, havent touched them in months. Necro is another profession that is in desperate need of some buffs, but i’m not gonna get into that here. Ele was the only thing that kept me playing this game. Started as one in beta and loved it. Tried the other professions just for the sake of doing something different, just didnt have as much fun with them as i did with Ele. Well after this patch i guess i’ll take a break for awhile and play something else. Probably come back a few patches later and hope they’ve pulled their heads out their rears and fixed things properly. I think PSO2 will be out soon. Atleast I can count on Force being stupidly powerful in that game, as mages should be.

Non bunker Eles often depend on RtL to not explode. One would think it’d make sense for the class with lowest base health and lowest armor quality to use mobility to compensate, but only thieves can be mobile, apparently.

Somehow Anet have assembled a balance team so incompetent they make me wish Relic were in charge of balance.

Can’t heal during mist form now huh? Cool, I didn’t like having a chance to survive anything. That’s why I play an elementalist, you know, to stand still and die.

Warriors….. can heal and even continue attacking during:

and it lasts longer than mist form. They can also trait to have it automatically activate at 25% health, the only comparable traits we have activate arcane shield (yeah, 3 blocks is comparable to 4 sec total immunity, right?) or armor of earth (protection and stability are really good, but invulnerability is kinda…. better).

Engineers…. have a 3 sec immunity skill too:

They can’t attack during it, but they can heal. It can also be traited to auto-activate, remove a condition, and have cooldown reduced to 40 sec.

I’m really just confused why the developers seem to hate elementalists so much. Least natural HP and defense, hardly epic damage, but apparently surviving is considered OP on a class that was just designed to be a walking loot bag.

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

They didn’t want boon hate to really affect guardians too badly so they’re looking into some trait buffs? don’t know what’s going on there yet.

May I ask what the issue will be with RtL? The only thing I can think of it impacting is my overall mobility, as in getting from point A to point B, but that’s hardly something to quit a character over.

RtL won’t go into 40s cool down unless you don’t target someone basically. As it doesn’t need to physically hit, so even if they dodge or block its fine. Its just going to make escapes less assured. Though to be honest, most people give up chase after one RTL anyway. The 2nd one is always overkill, so I don’t think it will effect my play style much.

What do you guys think?

Mist form should allow a heal skill and attacks when when you can CC/interrupt an ele during it, can place conditions on them, and has a 90 second cool down.

Testing Armor of Earth in place of Mist Form for my ‘Zerker s/d, because I honestly don’t see the point in a 3 second invulnerability if I can’t do anything during that time and I have other stun-breakers to choose from.

It’s not as good for “OH ****” moments, and it has a longer cooldown, but it has the bonus of allowing me to get off Churning Earth and such.

To be fair, every other class has to go through the same thing. When they get nerfed they also have to pay for new gear.

Its just an unfortunate thing that happens sometimes, for all.

Wishful thinking I guess! There are other games out there you know, and real world lives to keep people occupied. Thing is with all these nerfs, this game will no longer be enjoyable to play, thus it will no longer be played. Simple as that lol.

…actually the game will still be enjoyable, you just need to change up your tactics a bit. People on the Guardian forums are going bananas as well with the whole warrior unblockable signet thing, but to be honest these changes aren’t going to ‘break the game’ as all the doomsayers say it will. People are resistant to change, and will always throw hissy fits when said change comes around. Lord knows Everquest 2 went through THREE entire combat revamps (1 of which was also a total reworking of my Paladin class in addition to the combat revamp) in my time playing it, and there’s still lots of people playing that game today. Just take a breath, wait for official patch notes, and then try the changes out for yourself. Only real way to find out just how different the changes are.

LOL! Overexageratoin much.

So you’re no longer allowed to kill people while unkillable… how is that a problem… Guess guardian isn’t viable either because renewed focus doesn’t let you attack while channeling.

Rtl is still a 20s cd if you use it right. Even if it does get dodged, you’re tanky/have enough invulns/heals to either get away with blink or use your other mobility skills or wait out the duration of the rtl cd. This seriously isn’t a problem ESPECIALLY since ele was never meant to be THAT mobile. They were supposed to be good at getting around, not godlike.

Signet still heals you regardless if you hit a target or not. No other class is able to heal themselves by killing the pollen in the air. Before a bunker ele could be getting shot in the face but spamming 1 would be able to outheal the damage being dealt. Sound balance decision here. I hope the healing was halved, that would be about fair.

Oh no, now you only have pretty much permanent condition removal but 1 of your ways to remove conditions is now slightly less effective… I might feel bad for you when cleansing wave no longer heals or cleanses conditions and attuning to water no longer heals or cleanses conditions.

Sure the changes suck for you but you know what, they aren’t that big of a deal. The cast time on your attacks aren’t changing, attunement cd isn’t being changed, the 2-3-4-5 skills don’t share a global cd, nothing class breaking is happening to you. It sucks but overdue. Ele was too strong and what is happening right now isn’t unwarranted. They still are the jack of all trades but FINALLY they should no longer be the master of all as well

Where have you being since launch? Thief got nerfed pretty hard since then.

I lol`d at your picture. Btw, thief didn`t get buffed, they got half reverted revealed (thank god, it was disgustingly awkward at 4s) back to its original 3s, a massive mug nerf and a good QoL buff to sword dagger. Warrior wasn`t buffed in PvE (much if at all) but have been given some highly necessary PvP and WvW buffs. These buffs won`t even be easy to use, they will require skilled play to take advantage.

Lastly, the patch hasn`t even came out yet so I don`t know why people are complaining so hard. Try the feel of the new you before flippin tabbles.

Thieves have had more nerfs than any other classes combined… Someone’s recorded it all.

Thief and Warrior are bottom tier in Spvp right now as rated by the pvp community, check out the easy to find Tier List in the Spvp section as I’am too lazy to link.

All this now means is, if a D/D ele beats a player in a duel, they will think “Hm, what a skillful player.” Rather than, “LOL, figures he needs that OP spec.”

I’m fairly sure they only reduced passive Signet of Resto in Spvp, where it needed one.

They didn’t nerf Ele heal skills, you just can’t use it now while invulnerable to damage, conditions and cc.

Its ok to nerf a dd ele, but why in hell would you do it like this
out of my 7 Characters i played like 1.3k hour on my ele and like 150 on all the others together

now tell me one reason to keep playing GW2

Because those were the OP parts of the D/D ele? … The healing and the mobility made him like a guard with thief mobility.

The message is clear from Anet. Play thief or warrior, or quit. The two most OP faceroll classes are getting buffed, but the all the ones that needed serious buffs in certain areas are getting nerfs in their few actually useful abilities. Do they have a lobotamized monkey working on balancing this game?

There are 3 thiefs in the top 50 leaderboards. 0 warriors. And over 15 eles. Eles dominate spvp. And have for 5 months, easily the strongest class in the game. Ask anyone who actually plays at the top of the leaderboards. Or watch streams of said top players.
Warriors are right now the WEAKEST class in spvp. Idk maybe you only do hotjoin. But in real tournaments where premades and class distrubtion happens, warriors are balls in spvp. Though admitably they are strong in pve.

Thiefs are kinda subpar, but useful for specific purposes. But, as someone who mains engies and has 2k tournaments. ITs not thiefs or warriors that I worry about.

I practiced in spvp not using rtl to run and not using ether renewal in mist form. The ehter renewel isn’t a big deal, the rtl nerf seems like nonsense. Solo roaming won’t be possible anymore at least.

All this now means is, if a D/D ele beats a player in a duel, they will think “Hm, what a skillful player.” Rather than, “LOL, figures he needs that OP spec.”

If they’re running boon hate, maybe. The changes didn’t really affect Cantrip bunkers beyond taking away a couple get-out-of-jail-free cards, and providing potential counters for thieves and warriors.

Still, the general attitude towards Ele’s has shifted tremendously even in these couple of hours. Note how people who don’t play D/D Ele are now seeing it as being brought down to their playing field. That’s what I meant.

In order to nerf d/d eles, Anet punishes the staff ones and laugh their face off as the wrong target build struggles to keep up with their inherent squishiness thanks to the fact that they’re wearing clothings

Seriously dude, if you want to nerf d/d eles, then nerf the d/d weapon skills, don’t touch the slot skills, it’s killing the other builds. And before you start to ask “have you even played d/d ele man? it’s killing people!” No, I don’t play d/d, I play exclusively staff, Cleric’s. I am the support in my team, I don’t need more reasons to switch to thief or mesmer thank you.

That I can agree is terrible. I have a very good friend who only runs staff, and this will hit him tremendously too, it’s simply not fair on that front.

As a staff ele, what worries me more than the cantrips (only used Armor of Earth anyway) is that boon hate was added. In order to become even remotely viable as damage dealer, and not die whenever someone looks at me, boons are essential. And now warriors get a free +20% damage to me thanks to the fact that staff eles are unplayable without boons.

And they were so tough to beat to begin with…

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

Its 3% per boon, so unless you run more than 5 boons at a time, hard unless you run “save yourselves”, or your teammates are there to provide boons. It wont be that number in most situations.

And it’s not free, as much as I agree staff is in a bad spot on a 1v1 scenario, and am hoping they seriously overhaul and rework the weapon for Ele’s, as staff users shouldn’t suffer for D/D Cheesers, the trait you pick up to do boon hate damage isn’t free.

In fact, you won’t see many warriors using the trait, because its 30 grandmaster trait in discipline and I don’t know if you’ve ever played a warrior but, NONE I have ever met (myself included), put 30 into discipline, ever. It will be a fairly rare trait, because the last thing warriors needed was more damage. What we and they want is more sustain/staying power.

Buff the hell out of staff and focus. That’s what we need but Anet will not do right now. There is no way people will wait 6 years for a major buff like in GW1.
