Hello guys

I have some playtime in WvW on my thief. Now I want to try my 80 Ele in Wvw. I’d like to play with stuff, cause I like the positioning play the staff brings with all those fields.

Usually I don’t go with the zerg. I prefer small scale or roaming.

Keep in mind, that I can’t afford the ascended gear just ascended trinkets.

What do you think? Are the overall stats and trait distribution ok?

in my experience, a staff ele will get eaten alive while roaming. they can shine in zergs though. I prefer d/d for roaming, as you have to hit quick, hit fast and move fast. Plus the self combos are easier to maintain with d/d in small groups.

But in terms of staff ele, i go 64220. Thats VI, VII, Xi in fire. VI, VII in air. VI earth VI water. That gives you the most dps bang for your buck. Remember, when your roaming solo or in small groups, the best survivablity is to hit fast and hard and kill the other guy fast and get the heck out (which is why i like d/d better for roaming). May need to tweak a few traits for your skillset tho. These trait setup requires you to be close to the action (which i like to do). swap out the SS in earth for something else if you like to fire away from the backlines.. but again, in roaming, there really isnt a backline, so…

You’re far too tanky for roaming imo. Staff damage is already bad enough in roaming because most people won’t just sit there and eat a lava font, a full soldier 6 water/ 6 arcana ele is really useless to a roaming group. As mulzi said, staff is a bad roaming weapon, but if you’re a good player you can make it works a bit against the average www player. I personally dislike the heal glyph, but that’s just me. If your role is aoe cc and combo fields, try to get a more offensive armor, or even celestial with a might stacking build, and position yourself far from the fight.

I roam with a staff ele using 6 water and 6 arcana BUT all my gear is zerker. Also, I Iike to use a sigil of energy to provide me with a much needed stamina recovery while the other rune is more damage oriented. For me and the skill level I have it is a good compromise that has been quite successful no matter if I was roaming or in a zerg.

staff ele is good,that video showed no skill just a zerker staff ele getting lucky with abiltys. i could tell right away when fighting the npc he was a crab as at no time he looked back why fighting npc for red players to lay fields… staff can be good but you need to be really really good to play Zerk. because we dont have stealth or endure pain or even a good healing sig for staff pure zurk is stupid unless as poeple say you have a pro group that spend allot of time defending you or you play really sneaky and fighting scrubs.

While roaming there is just too much space for Staff CC to be effective against mobile classes like Eles, warriors and especially thieves. All three of these classes can close the gap very quickly forcing you to go defensive immediately.

I can’t see any of the staff builds to be sufficient enough to roam with. If you’ll go for more offensive build, you’ll get eaten faster by more mobile enemies. If you’ll go for more defensive one, you’ll either get killed because you won’t be able to generate enough damage that your enemy wouldn’t be able to outheal, or you’ll simply end up in a veeeryy long and boring battle.

Staff Ele is really handy in a group setup, it can be a great support to your more offensive friends. While they work on the enemy and keep it occupied, you have a wider view on the battle and can control/support the situation with your heals and CC skills. So if you have some friends to run around, you can go for it just fine. That is, if that is the kind of gameplay you prefer. If you want to go for more offensive style, you should switch to D/D.

Unfortunately, you might find solo roaming with staff highly frustrating , it’s just not mobile enough to take advantage on your enemy, despite all those CC. When forced to face them in solo battle, you’ll feel like walking in the slime as any mildly good opponent will successfully evade most of your AoE skills.

Personally, I love playing high DPS staff ele anywhere, be it tpvp, wvw or dungeons. Here is a small vid I made of my ele in wvw.. If you might wanna consider the same..
