The point of being a support class?
I wonder…why doesn’t anyone count the combo fields as support? Because that’s essentially what they are: boosting other attacks to make them do more than they did without the combo fields.
Because most combos are pretty much useless.
There’s a few that actually make an impact, the only one that makes an impact in terms of dmg boosting would obviously be Fire Blast finishers, but that’s it.
Stacking even more poison/burning through projectiles is useless lol.
I personally think they should do a revamp on some of the combo finishers, like making Fire actually add a flat amount of dmg to projectiles or something. Something that makes you actually WANT to combo all the time.
If I see a fire field, then I should want to get over there and fire my projectiles through it.

What about fury stacking? What about extra chill from ice fields? How about the vulnerability from static field?
Its interesting to see people commenting on the thread without realising i already said i understand the DPS an ele can do, but in any PvP enviroment they suck doing that simply put BAD traitsetup
Saying staff isnt supposed to 1v1 is exacly why staffs are NEVER seen in sPvP or Roaming.
And i see allot of people talk about other weapon sets, im not talking about other weapon sets im talking about staffs.
the flaw of the staff in PvP in general is there solo survivability, its not like you can just teleport to the nearest commander to join in a zerg and once the zerg is on the otherside of eternal battlegrounds, GL ele, with no movement speed, no armor, health or any survivability. (because these ARE the flaws of a staff ele)
But yeah i think i have found the sweetspot of my ele DPS + survivabilty ROAMING at this point in time.
Yeah. We know that but this is why we are telling you this that ele staff sucks in 1v1 or sPvP. Heck it sucks even in WvW roaming. Ele staff is only great for its combo field. Its meteor shower is unreliable since it drop in random location of 360 thus easily dodge. Lava font is only reliable to downed enemy since they can’t heal or hard to ress (still possible to avoid the lava font damage for players who tried to ress downed players).
If you see players who play staff in sPvP or roaming, they are probably either a total kitten or noob or trolling or hiding its conjure weapon with fresh air build (the new patch will make this build insanely crazy. 200% increase in movement).
Anyway let me retract my sentence, any class should never ever run full zerker in WvW. You will just be so paper that you will be downed quickly.
Also those of you who think you can take down warrior hammer 1v1 any class (except warrior hammer), feel free to give it a try. The current meta for warrior hammer is too broken. Even you have stun break, you probably can escape the stun twice at max. If you are taking up my challenging, post a video you taking down a warrior hammer. You can let the viewer decide if the warrior is good or bad.
Additionally if you think that your staff can dps so much in dungeon, post us a video of you actually doing “damage” with your stuff that you are so proud of.
If you can’t proof to me that your staff can deal as much damage as d/d or s/d without conjure weapon then please stop giving excuses. Oh wait before you attempt please check the difference in damages of your staff and d/d and s/d damages in gw2 wiki before you attempt. I don’t want you to waste your futile effort before attempting it. Just a quick preview of what you will expect of your best damage against your foe:
Meteor shower: 481 damage x 24
Fire grab: 941 damage (against burning foe)
Churning earth: 1,092 damage + 2,720 bleed
If you are still convinced then go ahead post a video. If you can’t then it’s ok. Anet said that anybody can be any role in the game. If you are staff ele as long you don’t be burden and your party don’t mind then it’s all good.
I checked a website, gw2skills.net, and check if warrior dps is higher than ele with autoattack and skill #2(ele stays in fire). With only base damage the warrior dps was higher than the ele dps. But don’t take this for a fact, because I did not include the cast times from wiki, and I also did not include the scaling damage. I could check these variables too to check which one is really highest.
In my opinon, it looks like the greatsword warrior has higher dps than a staff ele. For reasons though, because the ele has access to a bigger pool of skills, and the ele can easily apply burning to further increase dps, which the warrior can’t without a longbow. I also want to mention that even though ele dps is ranged, they are reliant on other allies to cover their disadvantage in mobility and survivability.
And if someone wants to check the damage difference between scepter and staff, or dagger and staff, please do include burning damage too. The burn makes a huge difference.
Well I just had to check the dps difference between elementalist dagger and staff autoattack. All damage calculated in fire attunement. Let’s assume we are using 2k power with both weapons. Let’s also assume the weapon strength of the dagger is 238, while the staff is on 270(according to steady weapons). The target we are attacking has 1k armor.
Let’s start with fireball. Each hit deals 0.85 * power * wep strength / armor. In our case:
0.85 * 2000 * 270 / 1000 = 459
One dagger projectile is 0.375 * power * wep strength / armor. In our case:
0.375 * 2000 * 238 / 1000 = 178.5
The dagger autoattack is consisting of three projectiles that all hit in point blank range. The total damage of a point blank hit is 535.5
The attack speed of fireball is 1.4 seconds per cast.
The dagger auto is 1.0 seconds per cast.
This shows that dagger obviously wins in dps, as long as it hits in point blank, aka melee. The staff on the other hand can hit from further than 1200 range, because of arching projectile and AoE hit of up to three targets.
Some people like certain roles and will make them regardless if the general population thinks they are bad, pointless or worthless. It’s just how they prefer to play.
That’s why people make Support characters.
If im correct everyone has there own healing skills in this game.
there own choices in defense or offense, to mix and match what they need.why does anet think we need support in this game at all, what for?

Just why?
First of all it’s “their” and second… No one forces you to play this way and of course just because you don’t like support, others won’t be forced out of playing it.
Why are you even arguing this?! Some want to be in the middle of the action and others staying in the safe side while still being useful.
Why the hating?!
