dps ele in zergy wvw
absolutely. I roll a full berserker elementalist with hoelbrak runes in WvW.
Avoiding damage is mostly about where you put yourself. If you keep your melee train as a meatshield, you’ll be okay. Make sure you use Lightning flash to get out of those big bombs. Mist form is your friend.
Totally viable. Specially with zerg protection. Use armor of earth and/or arcane shield when you have to deliver your meteor shower in more dangerous zones.
When I started with full zerker suit I played with my trait lines until I struck a balance where I felt the game was enjoyable for me. You will find your comfort zone eventually.

I play this same build, only difference is I have mix of berserk+assassin stats on armors, scholar runes and Lightening Rod trait in place of Shocking Aura. This trait does huge damage and we staff eles have quite a few good interrupting skills (you could try dropping them behind when someone is chasing you for some laughs). :-)

I do have lighting rod in that build its amazing staticfield +push= double weakness duration and less chance to add stability before walking thru. Then earth wall for giggles. I actually run with 2 daggers a scepter and a focus in my bag and i quick change between them very often based on where I plan to fight the enemy zerg. If i plan to be in uber close combat i usually go for scepter/focus for survival since i dont stand a chance in melee range without it. in towers i often switch do d/d stonemist lords room im usually running scepter/dagger. And for the record dagger earth 4 best “bite me” skill in the game with lighting rod

simple stay dodgy in the back/mid lines. as long as your not in the front you wont get focused so you simply have to avoid random aoe circles. plus i run sigil of restoration so when i hit someone for half their health if the rest of their health goes away from either my hit or an allies i gain 900 hp and since i hit their entire zerg for half their health at once the enemy zerg melts and sigil of restoration with no internal CD goes off like a broken alarm clock.
So I was getting bored with WvW/EOTM and decided to dust off my ELE which I never played beyond leveling. I picked up berserker temple armor and threw on some ogre runes and figured I would try it in EOTM knowing that is a much more forgiving place to learn. Build is all berserker with some toughness from trinkets; standard 0,0,2,6,6.
I have had the most fun playing with this build than any of my other characters. I am basically learning to play as I go but right off the bat I had to tag up as commander as no one else was willing and I figured I have enough battle awareness to lead the charge when it came time. I was worried about surviving front line with a glass build but hey, it is EOTM and the other groups are pretty disorganized and tend to run when they see someone charging without fear. What a riot. I really like the freewheeling fights in EOTM and I never had trouble getting focused . The combination of destruction, CC, and healing is fantastic to play as long as you have good battle awareness to keep you alive.
I also picked up defensive gear at least for starting to play in the real WvW as I am not as confident of my survivability there. The problem is WvW has become very stale and I haven’t had a lot of incentive to head back there although I will definitely be trying it out at some point. Plus, the opportunity to command in EOTM makes the game much more interesting then simply following others. I also love the concept of being a glass cannon commander ELE because it would never happen in WvW, at least I can’t see that happening for me.
Baest:
Rangerdeity is right! Positioning is everything! Also situational awareness…
(I know… even the nostalgia isn’t the same anymore…) me and my fianceĆ© used to play zerker(ish) staff eles. Can you imagine what 2-3 syncronized “meteornado” can do?
About survivability: we always had a thief and a ranger in the party. They took care of us. Without them I possibly won’t have such a good memories. So befriend a thief and wreck havock.
On-topic: if you feel too squishy use knights. If you manage your heals properly you should be fine in the backline.
