how much crit?
For staff, I’d use power instead as your base damage is pretty low so multiplying it will do relatively little.
On daggers, I’d say 19% is decent. It’ll translate to almost 40% with fury and that seems a decent amount to me.
it all depends on what build you’re using. if you’re using knight’s gear, i believe you should have something around 30% crit. if you’re going full zerker, it’s easily 50-60% crit. if you’re using full soldier (power/vit/toughness), you should have 0% crit.
you can factor in the fury + swiftness boon from your arcana trait line… that’s another 20% for 3 seconds after attunement swap.
that being said… crit chance isn’t a major factors for eles to consider. it’s more of a niche more suited for glass cannon warriors and thieves. instead, you should be asking yourself how much power, toughness, and vitality you have.

If you’re talking about crit chance only (and I assume so), knight’s gear gives same amouont of precison as zerker (and even more on jewels). Also, even with 916 precison you have basic 4% chance for crit.
Crits aren’t niche for warrior and thieves. You must be playing different game if you think so. There are a lot of traits and sigils proccing on critical hits that increase your survivability more than stacking toughness/vitality.

Yeah, but they share a cooldown with Sigil of Battle, which is hard to pass up on. 315 power & condition damage or 30% to gain 370ish health every 10 seconds? Hmm…

I have this doubt as well. I use staff as well but i dunno if i should go all berserk or stay with more vita and tough

What’s up with all this false info being spread around forums.
Plain and simple crit is important, for any class. Most MMOs put a soft-hard cap of 45%-50% for critical because of how useful it can be. I try to shoot for around that. It’s easy with D/D Aura/Might stack Ele because you have dam near perma fury. Also you need is a warr or something in the party and you are good to go.
If you are not pushing crit, you are 1) losing a lot of damage, 2) losing a lot of procs on sigils, 3) losing a lot of procs from beneficial boons you could have up which can 4) potentially make you lose even more damage if you are 25 into water, 5) do I need to say more?
PS: Try running a perma-vigor set up with crit. You can thank me later.

anyway you can post your traits and gear set up? at 19% i def dont feel like i’m hitting like I should. Surviving just fine though, so might go for more crit/crit dmg instead of cd. My healing is almost 800 thinking bout bringing it down to 650-700ish too
Hi! I agree with those that say crit is important and that is especially true for an Ele. However, don’t go all the way. In my opinion if you go for a crit chance above 40% (without fury) you sacrifice to much in other stats.
I run S/D & Staff. I use Knight’s Armor with Scholar Runes. Weapons are also Knight’s with Sup Sigil of Fire & Precision on Kill. For Jewel’s i use Beryl ones.
With that setup you get nice levels of Tough/Vit/Power/Precision & Crit Damage.
I Trait Air, Water & Arcane. I have perma Vigor (Renewing Stamina), high upkeep of boons like Regen, Swift & Prot (Ele Attunement) and some more defensive traits in Water.
I run with 15-16k Hp & 1,5k Tough. My Crit chance is 33% (gets boosted to 45% due to Sigil) without fury. Crit damage is 60-65%. I survive nicely and i do some pretty big hits (8k Firegrab…4,5-5k Burning Tooth…2,5k Fireball…etc).
Hope that helps.

I have 9% crit chance. I wouldn’t worry too much about crit unless your class/build depends on it (on crit effects) and/or you have +crit damage to back it up.

I currently have 2 sets of gear I use, working on a 3rd and 4th (condition damage and one for Scepter/Dagger).
Set 1 is Valkyrie armor and weaps mixed with Berzerker jewelry. Power/Vit runes with Battle and Force sigils.
Set 2 is AC armor and weapons with Knight’s jewelry. 30% boon duration on runes with 2x Superior Water, 2x Superior Monk and 2x Major Monk (I think, forget which one). Obviously not my damage set. Same sigils as above.
I’m around 26% crit without fury on both sets. 800 healing imo is way too high. Anywhere around 400 is okay I think. Ele heals on all weapon sets are total kitten anyway, no point focusing on it. They did a terrible job on our heal abilities especially with staff. Used to be better with Evasive Arcana.

If you wanted more damage, you can swap out the 10 in Earth for 10 more in Air (bolt to Heart), or if you have trouble dodging go 10 in arcane for vigor on crits.

I have around 43% and get to 63% with Fury, I like crits and I almost always use 20 points in Air.
I am playing crit-dps / support D/D in PvE and WvW mostly, with 0-25-0-15-30 = 51% crit.
Working so far good for me…
Changing build from 30 Fire, 10 Air and 30 Arcana to 30 Fire, 20 Air, 10 Water and 10 Arcana. Between runes of scholar and eagle, what do u think i should use on my ele?

me to :P but i have 0/20/0/20/30 i think the 20% cd reduction in water is worth more than 5 points in air and 2 or 3 stacks of vulnerbility.
check out my build here ; http://en.gw2codex.com/build/22808-high-fotm-dungeon-build
its kind of a wall of text but if you manage to read it all please vote and comment :P

wut gear are you using for those stats?
I was using power tough vita. The major reason for that armor was the jewels. I was using the knight that gives u Power Prec and Tough. Now i changed to berserker, and omg what a good change. I have more power, more prec and 55 more crit dmg but my armor is now only 2200 wich is ok for an elementalist i think. NOw im stuck on runes only, divinity would be great, ogre and scholar sounds fine for me as well.
I’m sure 2700 toughness is a mistake. You mean 2700 armor.
