Just a couple of quick questions: anyone knows how much damage Acidic Elixir does and how throwing an elixir triggers Static Discharge?

I mean, if I’m in melee range and I throw the elixir at my feet, will the static discharge hit someone or drop underground doing nothing at all?

SD and exlirs has always been buggy. Didn’t notice that it has changed up to now. Acutally, SD is unrealiable with most of the toolbelt skills aside from a few selected ones like the ones from towers for example that target automatically.

Yes, they do work together. SD will proc and go in the general direction that the elixir is thrown in. The problem is when you’re running. SD is proc’d relative to the direction that your character is facing. So if you’re using free camera mode or throw an elixir behind you; SD will go the opposite direction and keep going forward from your character.

Acidic elixirs is also relatively low damage. They made it better in a recent update with boon removal, so I’d use it for that instead of trying to milk damage from it. The damage is just a side benefit.

I’ve actually tested this type of build using Acidic Elixirs and Static Discharge. I used Enhance Performance, Invigorating Speed, Speedy Kits, Cleansing 409, and HGH (20/0/0/30/20). Stacking might was crucial in optimizing damage, and that was done with cycling Med kit and pitching Elixirs like a mad man. Med kit was preferable for having the tool belt heal recharged at 25% hp, instead of Elixir H.

Basically you want to be close to the target when using this build. Naturally that suggests using P/S or P/P but in my last go around I used Rifle and all in all I think it was better suited for the build with it’s low recharge Net Shot over off hand pistol Glue Shot. Jump Shot at point blank range was a welcomed extra AoE.

My damage numbers were nothing too grand with 1k – 1.5k being my typical damage per hit. Notably one can do better damage if focused more on ctit & crit damage as I was mostly looking to test the viability of Engineers boon removal with the build (yes I also tested the Mine in a version of this build…it sucks…even if you can double proc SD off the mine field tool belt, the skill itself is a waste and you’re better off slotting rifle turret.)

I was asking this because I usually play a mixed power bomb engineer with high sustain. Not the current meta but I find it fun to play so . . .

However, as anyone these days, I melt under conditions when the other team has a Necro or HGH-Grenade Engineer, so I was evaluating a rapid “build switch” in case I see a strong condi pressure in the opposition.

My zomg I need a switch build could be something like:

I lose a lot of mobility, I lose some protection, but I gain a lot of weirdness that I like very much :P

Static discharge is ridiculously unreliable on most kits, this shouldn’t really be ignored, the amount of times a static discharge goes into the ground or root me in place due to the cast time, i can’t imagine this is the intent of the design…

might as will make it travel towards the direction of the cursor if its not a target spell, and just make it not go into the ground /________\

Thrown Elixirs with the Acidic Elixirs trait deal roughly around the same damage of a single grenade, with the exception of Throw Elixir U, which deals roughly around the same damage value as Surprise Shot (With about 4x the cool down). It’s incredibly low damage, and I wouldn’t recommend using it in conjunction with Static Discharge, as the Chain Lightning caused by using a Thrown Elixir follows where your camera is pointed, rather than heading towards your target. Acidic Elixirs do however proc Shrapnel about 100% of the time, which is likely a bug, but it’s easy access to some additional bleed stacks if you’re using an HGH build.

I posted several times asking for SD changes with this build in mind. NO it will not work nor ever be viable in wvw/pvp as you physically have to aim your camera to them when you throw elixirs. Even then if they strafe you won’t hit them.

Sorry man the build would rock but static discharge is a complete failure.

This build is one of the better ideas for SD with elixirs because you have to be close to your opponent when you throw elixirs, so there’s more leeway to get SD to land.

As others have said though, SD is still hard to land on toolbelt skills that do not target. If you have points in tools and can’t think of anything else to use I don’t think SD is a bad idea with this build but it’s not an optimal use of SD.
