And my Alter-Ego- Kyoryu Gold, Mesmer, Thundering Hero, wielder of the Legendary Meteorlogicus!
(edited by Nabarue.3290)
I’ve been out of the game for a while, probably the better part of this year. But for the six months I played after launch, I played a grenade slinging, static discharging Engi from the planet EXPLOSIONS. That was fun. But I’m looking to expand upon what my engi can do. That being said:
I almost exclusively do WvW, and I’m not much of a roamer. I travel with a large-ish group most of the time, and enjoy adding what I can to the fight. But I’d like to try something a bit more support-ish, to help improve the survivability of my friends and comrades, while still keeping damage up. To this end, I have created the Combat Medi Engi. It’s not perfect, and it’s not done, but it’s a work in progress and the early test show promise. Enough to make me want to come to the forums and crowdsource our immense creativity that brings players like us to the Engineer class.
In making this build, I was looking for balance. Damage, survivability, mobility, and the ability to help keep my comrades alive. It had to all be there. Take a look. Critique away!

Any suggestions/critiques would be appreciated!
I don’t like any trait x % converted to y on engineer. Imo engi does not profit well from maxing stats like for example warrior does. I also don’t like self regulated defenses… it just can kill you with conditions. Maybe pick both protection traits and a protection duration rune with additional protection source if you pick support rune anyway.
And last but not least I don’t like castrated cleric builds. Celestial scales so well in PvE/WvW mode, and it fits perfect for a support engi.
IP also over cd reduction in small scale.
Just my opinion on it…

It looks like the way he did it, taking conversion traits for toughness AND healing, would kind of circumvent the thing you don’t like about it (maxing stats). It allows him to build a spread of survivability and support (with toughness and healing) and get some power out of both at the same time.
I don’t know if it’s enough to justify giving up the protection stuff in that line, but it’s an interesting approach.
I played a similar spec before I took an extended break last year and I always loved that bomb healing trait. Would love to see it in action with a group that positions to take advantage of it.
Yor argument is invalid: power is linear increase of total damage or saturating if regarded in percentage. Those both traits my seem to have a synergie for inexpert overlooking. But Trait 1 is similar strong without trait 2 and vice versa regarding damage kumulative and even weaken each other regarding damage in percentage.
If we can say it is bad for its alone, then it must be also bad paired with a trait which doesn’t snyergise.
This warrants testing! Thanks for responding btw, I feel like I am on to something here and would love to refine it, so once I test the numbers I will come back with the results!
So with some testing, I found out that somehow, adding the toughness trait actually brings my damage DOWN a bit. How that works is beyond me, as you’d think it would actually be cumulative with the healing trait. So I replaced it with Protective Shield and will test how that feels with the build.
As for the armor, I’m not sure how I want to go with that.
Keep the suggestions comin!
If the group you are with has aoe swiftness( guards/eles) you should drop power shoes for stabilized armor or elite supplies(dem medkit healz). I personaly do not like self regulated defense as there are times it procs just as i drop turret, ruining my entire burst heal, protection injection imo is better. as for the armor, I would use soldiers coat/legs for more power.
Ok, so after taking all these suggestions into account, I have abridged the build and have come up with this:
How’s that looking so far? (editing original post with this)
Only thing I’m wondering about is, why go for IX in explosives? Unless I’m reading it wrong, that’s a 4% crit chance. I think getting 20% Reduced CD on bombs or the 10% damage increase would supply more oomph than such a small chance of dealing burning.
Other than that, seems solid
How big is large-ish?
-I don’t see the point for incendiary powder. It won’t do much. You can either leave 20 in explosives, but should take short fuse or explosive powder instead. Or you move the 10 points to speedy kits and get stabilized armor instead.
-Depending on how large and organized your group is, it might be worth it to switch from rifle to p/s. It gives you an extra blast finisher for restacks and a block to push through chokepoints. You won’t stay outside of bomb kit for too long anyway and rifle doesn’t provide much outside of small scale.
-Again, depending on group size i’d switch the food to either loaf of saffron bread or Kralkachocolate bar.
Gear seems overall fine to me with the mix of clerics and soldiers. Celestial is rather useless since you don’t need half the stats it provides.
I should have add: if you use IP u must also use sigil of intelligence with your low crit rate (100% crit after swap).
Changing away from IP. Thanks for pointing that out
Carpboy! I hadn’t seen that, those builds are awesome!

Can someone translate this to English? A lot of it is meaningless gibberish.
I think I get the gist of it, but I’d like to have a better idea of what he is trying to say.

Just change my into may and it is fine. Go practise your text apprehension if you have problems with this one. Sure it is not perfect because it is not my native language. But I could have written this much more intricated.
Practice my text “apprehension”? Maybe instead you could practice knowing what words mean in English before you attempt to use them.
“Those both traits [may] seem to have a synergie for inexpert overlooking” is meaningless even if you fix “my.”
Same with “power is linear increase of total damage or saturating if regarded in percentage.” It does not mean anything. It is a near-random collection of words.
Look, I understand using the stat conversion traits is not ideal, but your explanation is completely unhelpful as to why. Perhaps you could post it in your native language and someone with a better handle on English can translate.
p.s. – The word you were looking for is “comprehension.” That one was close enough to figure out.
