Plenty of people use Condition Damage.

If you are asking why most don’t, I think it’s a combination of things. It doesn’t feel as satisfying to see a lot of small numbers ticking, in my opinion. Condition Damage isn’t particularly great when it comes to PvE due to you having to account for 4 other players. CD doesn’t work with Quickness, either.

I think most people just prefer direct damage.

People like big numbers, so they go for direct – you can tell that much by just looking at the price of Blood on the Trading Post. For some reason, people want to play tag with rocket launchers.

Anything where you’re working with, say, any of the other Condition-heavy classes, though…you’re going to get overshadowed, probably. Big events, you’ll have 25 stacks of every condition on a particular enemy, so you can’t even get contribution from more than your direct damage.

Myself, I’m okay with wearing things down. I kind of like it – which is why I’m using a hybrid Apothecary and Carrion set and focusing on infliction of Burns (as well as constant use of mines).

There are condition engineers around, but on pvp its just harder to kill with considering how relatively easy it is to remove conditions and that bowl of lemon grass exists in wvw effectively cutting your condition damage by half. Plus you effectively lower your dps when there are more than one condition damage user in a party.

I’m running full condi / traited mostly for elixir gun ^^
I think seeing the small numbers trickle on even when I’m forced to get to safety / move out of range is very satisfying.

At the time I am using FT build which can be freely morphed into full pistol build just by swapping traits (no need to reset), so I run either Apothecary or Rampager with pistols or Apo or Knights with FT.

Direct damage is superior to full condition damage builds in most cases, so they likely converted over.
Can’t really blame them, what with condition caps, damage reduction with more than 1 heavy condition user in the group and conditions not working against structures/objects.
However, there is one you can blame. Anet.

I use Rampage and condi all the time yes it’s weaker then a two handed warrior but then again what isn’t.

They do need to do something about that in PVE btw. Here’s to hoping on the 11th that they’ll actually catch that this time. Would be nice.

Anyway recently since i discovered they actually fixed the explosive radius bug (dunno when that happened but it was within the last two months) I went back to my mines bombs grenades outfit and modified the condi damage build to have an excess of vuln and of bleed ( I usually run alone in the open world what with all of the open spaces empty these days so I don’t usually worry over the stacking of conditions).

Most of engies are Rabid geared, these builds are the most versatile around. I have yet to find an engineer wielding a rifle.

In PvE you need full cond damage gear to get any cond damage ticks during large events (even then I’ve yet to see any damage from my burning ticks – obviously not stacking enough Might).

Cond damage gear works well in WvW if you can catch or pull people away from zergs as they aren’t used to conditions doing that much damage and they can’t clear them as fast as we can inflict them. It’s great to see a thief escape and then get down by the conditions we’ve stacked on them.

I run a hybrid SD/Condi build using P/P with Elixer Gun, Surprise Shot, Tool Kit – and Rampager Gear. 20, 30, 0, 0, 20

I’ve been melting people in WvW.

45% Crit Chance, 50% Crit Damage. 1078 Condi Damage (stacked up to 1,400 w/Sigils) and 60% Condi Duration (with Pizza).

the way GW2 is designed, Direct damage is just plain better. You cant even argue otherwise.
I love seeing lots of little numbers over large ones, large numbers dont impress me. Its like a warrior with the twilight sword, so common place no one cares.

I have tried going a few different builds for con, not so much on the engi, mainly because I find the engi pistol skills really stupid. Personal opinion, deal with it. They are fun when your solo roaming, but the moment you enter a group even of even a dungeon, your about worthless.

I personally dont understand the condition cap. Imagine if only the first 25 people to hit a boss (say Claw of Jormag) where the only people in the swarm of players allowed to deal any damage to it. These condition caps are the same thing. even worse for the non stacking ones like Burn, out of the swarm of players only 1 persons burn is actual dealing damage at a time.
How does that make any sense at all?

The pistols are MADE for applying damage to groups – this is not even debatable. The rifle is made for one-on-one roaming.

There’s still plenty of people with full rabid. Some people are doing rabid/carrion hybrids. I have a full carrion build, but I have no qualms in regards to rabid.

It makes perfect sense that direct damage does more than condition. Direct damage pools from three stats (power/critical chance/critical damage) whereas condition damage pools from one only (condition damage) with indirect pooling from precision by traits that add bleeds on crit.

A Rampager build is also perfectly viable when fights last for more than five seconds. But, bleed cap? Condition not working on objects (and some bosses)? Light fields mass cleansing conditions (why don’t we have light fields applying mass Protection too? It is very much the same thing)?

Even then, if the bleed caps were removed, I think more people would go back to condition, but as it is doing an event in the open world immediately nullifies a condition user and in a dungeon two condition users are one too many.

I, for one, am very fond of ticking debuffs. I don’t know how well they work in GW2, but they’re my go-to for DPS in any other MMO. Death by a thousand needles, that’s what I love.

Anyone know of a good "Condineer" build?

EDIT: After reading the thread more thoroughly, I can see why condition builds are a problem. Frankly, that makes me sad, but I can deal with it.

I have two sets on my engineer. One is full zerker, the other is a mix of rabid and carrion stuff.

I usually go for carrion when going with condition damage, since the power does more damage from direct damage than going for crits does. Though I do lose some of the procs, for an engineer it really isn’t that bad. With high fury uptime and Target the Weak, an engineer has a lot more precision than their equipment screen shows. The burn proc is highly reliable in the first place, and I get enough from the bleed proc as is. Steel packed explosives procs on regular hits (or is it shrapnel? One of those causes bleeds in grenades).

Although I usually combine the carrion an zerker gear in PVE. It gives me a lot of power while also giving me plenty of condition damage. Sometimes I go full zerker, but in WvW I usually go with the full carrion + rabid and stack might for additional power.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.
