Elite for SD Engi
If you want to burst one Person down as fast as possible, go for the Elixier X to Moa you´re target and kill it. or Counter transform elites ( Lich, Juggernaut, … )
For 1v2, …. or grp fights I´d stick to the supply crate for the cc and Zone control ( eg stopping a ress )
the moa on elixir x is pretty useless for burst tho right? iirc 3 sec, and moa has an evade on #5
but yeah true didnt think of the ability to stop rampage on an opponent or so, ty i will probably try out elixir x over supply crate sometimes
if you are running zerk the damage on rampage and tornado is pretty nuts, and the moa cc is dope for interrupts. it’s a toss up between X and crate. try both out and find your favourite. I’m into X for zerker myself, but I use all Engi elites and run many Engi builds.
currently a Boyfriend main :P

I really like using mortar on SD build. It gives me easy access to poison to keep people from healing/reviving fast, nice chill to add counter pressure especially against eles, blind for safe stomps and ofc f5 for good AoE pressure on points.
I’d say mortar for sure:
- With the right CC and timing, the orbital strike is great, particularly in conquest. It also gives you a decent ranged AoE option, which is great for team fights in both sPvP and WvW.
- Even if you don’t plan on camping it for long, it allows you to drop some extra pressure from afar before getting in range of a fight.
- Finally, it gives great options for dealing with downed opponents. The poison field slows enemy rez and the blind field allows you to land stomps against guards, engis, wars, etc.
Mortar is great— it gives you high reliable AoE damage into teamfights, excellent downed cleave (the poison is so good), and an extra safe stomp option or panic blind field. Not to mention the high unblockable damage on Orbital Strike. I wouldn’t want to go without it on an SD build, unless you’re only planning on fighting 1v1s or something.
I like all 3. I’m really having a hard time myself deciding which one to use. They all seem to have their uses at times. If i’m just by myself though, i tend to use elixir. its saved me quite a few times against some hard to kill opponents. If i’m with other people though, i find mortar and crate more useful. I’m just glad all 3 are actually viable now. it used to be just crate or gtfo.
I prefer mortar by far with SD build, especially when traited, it provide what was missing until now : an almost free usefull switch.
1. It allow to precast ground control from very far before entering the fight
2. When you run out of CD, Mortar 1 is always better than rifle 1 (faster, stronger, aoe)
3. OS add strong aoe damages and double blast
4. It does help to support stomp
Mortar, for all the reasons above, plus:
- Light field offers good cleansing, since the typical SD utilities/toolbelts (toolkit, rifle turrent, and potentially personal batttering ram) are all 100% projectile finishers
- Water healing – via orbital strike double blast and rifle turret detonate (you don’t want to keep up the turret anyway)
- … and since you have the water heals, you can experiment with other healing options besides HT – AED has potential for SD builds.

that and the post above actually sounds interesting enough for me to try it
Mortar also helps you clear camps even faster. I feel even more useful in team fights too thanks to the field support that the mortar gives.
