Flamethrower Build and stats?
I use full knight’s armor, 0/30/10/30/0, might stacking runes, HGH + elixir H, B and C for PvE. It’s actually quite survivable and deals decent aoe damage. However I wouldn’t recommend using flamethrower in pvp, it misses all the time (by bug or design) and you end up doing a lot less damage than what it says on paper.

I haven’t run it yet, but it looks solid. I know it doesn’t say anything about FT in the title, but this is what the OP said further down in the thread:
Incidentally, the FT is the ONLY reason this build works.
And here’s another quote about it, one of my favorite from the thread:
Had too much wine tonight, but even with my drunken reaction time going on, the survivability seems excellent and the damage is pretty kitten good. Have to give it another run through tomorrow, but it’s almost drunkproof!
FT is iffy in wvw imo. It’s useful for burning down “downed” enemies via napalm but outside of that it does have much use. I mostly use the elixir gun in wvw since it’s more consistent than FT (better range, bleeds, snares, weakness, heals, and acid bomb to get some distance).

Thanks folks. Some good info here.
I was playing around with the skill calc and came up with this.
0/30/20/20/0 build. Thoughts?
I like your build but I would take self regulating defenses in Alchemy 10. It has great synergy with automated medical response.
Regarding flamethrower builds I would say, great as long as you are fighting on even ground (and I mean literally even). If not, there is one word to describe the flamethrower: MISS!
I use this in the condition build I decided to go with today. I like the toolbelt skill for DPS, the AoE knockback is great. aoe dmg is pretty OK and has a wide cone + the fire field helps with downed opponents (gotta do what you can to avoid trying to stomp someone)
Avoid using the MISSthrower in wvw, elixer gun will tragically serve you better with the correct specs. Even when using flamethrower against enemies behind a gate, as soon as they get a retaliation buff, you kill yourself faster than you kill them.
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.
Wow. That’s embarassing. I didn’t even consider retaliation.
Thank you for mentioning it. I’ll probably still try out flamethrower. But now I’ll at least now why I’m dying so fast…
=D

omnom pie/ghost 2 win
laugh at retal
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions

this is indeed an excellent way to combat retaliation, not to mention become very survivable. A looming nerf might be in the works for the life steal food but who knows. A nice way to combat retaliation in addition to life steal would be to run with a superior rune of nullification. It has 10 second cooldown but if you also use mines with your build you can do a nice job of boon removal and therefore typically negate retaliation completely. Of course that means you have to use mines which many don’t like and against ranged enemies they are pitiful unless you magnet someone into them.
I thought flamethrower, despite it’s burn applications, was more of a power heavy weapon.

I think you might find this thread useful and informative. Some numbers are crunched in the last third of the first page.
