Is this a bug? (Evasive Powder Keg)
You take confusion damage on dodge. This is by design and happens to all characters.
It is not by design nor does it happen to all characters. The OP is correct that this only happens because dodging produces a bomb, that is in turn defined as a “skill”, which in turn deals confusion damage. This can happen to other professions only when they have a similar trait that does something on a dodge. Take out that trait and you will not see confusion damage when you dodge.
I agree that it should be fixed though, I don’t like not being able to even dodge just because I have a passive trait that I didn’t even have a choice in taking.

Hmm, I don’t think that is correct, but it is worth re-examining it.
I do not have any on-dodge traits (i.e. evasive powder keg), but I believe will still take confusion damage on dodge. I’ll have to see if there’s a convenient way to test it in game…
You can check for sure by visiting the Drakes in Southsun. They liberally apply confusion.

I just retraited and tested it out in Southsun. I definitely don’t take any damage at all when dodging with no points in explosives but as soon as I put the five points in and start dodging while dropping bombs I get damaged.
As Adamantium said, it seems like this is something that needs to be fixed since this isn’t even a trait you can choose not to take. Just by spending points for increased power I’m crippling myself against any foe that uses confusion. :/

This is probably tied into the bug that can delay skill useage after dodging when you have an on-dodge effect (i.e. dodge, try to pop heal, but it won’t come out for like a second).
I wonder if it’s just attack skills, or if this affects things like the guardian’s on-heal roll too.

evasive arcana; and considering its a major grandmaster trait… it isnt really, the only other comparable one (that i can think of) is the ranger one that removes poison and blind on dodge… which is pathetically UP

it’s the same effect that elementalists get with Evasive Arcana. With earth dodge elementalist triggers confusion 3 or 4 times. Definetly not intented…
It’s funny how you can instantly destroy eles with confusion. 3x 4k confusions when they dodge x).

And that such a “bug” exist do not surprise me, as best i can tell ANet have taken shortcuts on many of the “on dodge” traits and simply made them an alternate trigger for the same skill code. As such, the confusion code likely do not know what triggered it.

Suicide by confusion, yep i have heard about that one. I’ll stick to Supply Crate.
It happens on any dodge trait that has an action associated with it.

At least evasive powder keg works now. It was very frustrating to be take confusion damage on dodge because of a broken minor trait that you couldn’t avoid that didn’t even work (I was a bomber).
I still think it should be a Concussive Bomb or Incendiary Bomb on a cooldown instead. I’d actually rather it be a Shrapnel Bomb that blows up for high direct damage and a few bleeds, but that’s probably asking too much.
