Hi all. I just hit 80 on my Engi and wondering what my next steps should be.

- Is it worth the time doing world completion? I’m def going to do all the 60+ zones cos you get exotics from them but do you get exotics from that 55-65 zone (Sparkfly Fen)?

- What is generally considered to be the best WvW build right now for Engi? Spec and gear wise?

- What goals should I be working towards in terms of gear? Should I buy lvl 80 exotic gear right away? My friend gave me a Charrkooza so I guess I’m rifle for now or are pistols the only way to go?

- What other things do you experienced Engis recommend I be doing now that I’m 80?

- At least run every maps and get some WP to help in guild events.

- Pistols or Pistol/Shield it’s not the only way go! You can go Rifle for sure. Buy every weap (Eng just have 3, it’s cheap) and leave on your bag, you’ll use on diferent situation. You can get your gear in dungeons, Trading Post, Karma.. Choose your stats and search how to get here:

- IMO, go zerker for pve and fo WvW try both: Power and Cond builds. Test the builds in sPvP before buy your gear for WvW, just to check if you’ll like the playstyle. But remember, some builds I’ll be more effective on PvP or WvW.. The PvP test it’s not about the effective (kill or survive), but if you like the playstyle and how the build “work”.

- I dunno, I do world completion on all my characters. Is it wroth it, I dunno, but I do it

- Best build for doing what in WvW? There is no such thing as a best build for anything. There are a few good builds at doing certain things in WvW. I spend a very vast amount of time in WvW every day, and the build and gear I run can very from day to day. In my opinion, the absolute worst set of gear in WvW is zerker gear. you se a lot about grenade zerker or SD zerker build, and they are good builds. But grenade zerker is solid in PvE but horrible in WvW, and SD is nice for sPvP but mediocre in WvW. Glas cannon builds are horrible in WvW. Good players see a glass cannon build and know it is an easy bag and will single you out.

- Goals to work towards with gear? Well you tell us. I cannot suggest any gear goals unless you can suggest to me what your hoals are with your character and play style are. Damage? Support? CC? If damage, do you want direct damage or condition damage?

-As an experienced engie, the first thing I will suggest, is to not get hooked by the grenade zerker or bust crowd. Some player did some quick math around release and got so many players to believe grenades are the best damage.

The fact is, that in actual game play, if you go to a golem in the mist (which has a static spawn time) or a mob with a static spawn time, and kill 10 in a row. Bomb builds do it faster. Albeit they do not have the ability to be at 1500 range.

For the community to give you more specific advice, you will have to be a bit more specific in your questions, but I hope I offered you a little more direction.

To be a little bit more specific I will prob be roaming a bit in WvW with a buddy warrior. I don’t think I will go the SD route as I find that a bit of a one trick pony as much fun as it would be when it goes off perfectly. You are super squishy and pretty much don’t do much when it’s on cd. So I’m guessing the other route is nades? Are bombs viable and similar in build/gear? I have pretty much been using zerker gear exclusively while leveling up but I think I will prob go condition route for WvW most likely and I guess zerker still for PvE. Is rampager prob the best condition set for damage? And what is the most viable overall condition nades/bomb/other build for WvW? I prefer damage/support.

So where should my first set of 80 gear be from? Exotic from trading post?

For conditions in WvW. I am using this one right now. Its a 100% condition duration build.

Just about any build you want to do that runes condition, I find works great with “dire” gear in WvW.

Rampager will make you just as squishy as full berserker would do. Get rabid or dire, or a mix of both. I try to stay ~25% crit chance before fury when mixing

Also if you are roaming with your warrior buddy, you can afford a lot more to be squishy, since hell be taking some heat off you. Dont completely put all thoughts of SD out of your mind.

Thanks for the info. Just curious, with that burst SD build, once you kill someone or not, do you pretty just die after that. What can you do once all your cds are down. It doesn’t have rocket boots and is super squishy right. I watched someone on twitch running a burst build and he pretty much kills someone almost instantly then pretty much dies instantly.

And thanks, I was thinking rabid but isn’t it missing crucial power? I guess the defense will benefit more in terms of longevity.

No. You’re going a pure condition build. Power is a completely useless stat for you. Lose all thoughts of trying to use power and condition dmg at once, unless going for a hybrid build. And yeah, if you get focused in a SD build, you’ll go down pretty quick. But in WvW its generally 1v1 or escaping a Zerg. Your CDs recharge fast, and you have all your rifle skills to use. Jumps hot easily hits 15k on the leap and landing, and blunderbuss is a truck up close.

So is there a point to precision then – ala rabid – if conditions can’t crit?

Yes. You’ve got the adept minor in fire arms with a 33% chance on crit to bleed. And incendiary powder, which is a 100% chance to burn on crit for a base 4 sec duration and 10 sec CD. Then youve got sigils like geomancy, which are a 60% chance to bleed on crit.

Ok, personally I prefer more offensive to defense so I guess rabid it is then.

My advice is to get both cond and power builds. I have a pure condition gear (full rabid) P/P and a power (zerker) SD rifle build, I can diversify my playstyle when some get bored. I played cond for a long time and now SD is my main build. Probabily in next month cond will be.. lol IMO, this is the best of GW2, you don’t need to reroll another class to change the playstyle.
