It wasn’t really a balance patch, they were mostly minor tweaks.

I thought they would do something to the hilarious might application to phantasm through sword 5 for mesmers.
I didn’t expect much mid-season, honestly.
I am really not feeling the urge to play PvP much thanks to this boring meta.
And yeah the might stacks on phantasm still confuses the hell out of me…

Most of these changes were pretty minor, and probably won’t change the meta at all in the grand scheme. Sword/torch berserker is still going to just be an unranked troll build, and bunker guardian is still too slow to replace druid, tempest, or scrapper.
Phineas, I think his point is that if these buffs/nerfs are useless, than why waste time on them at all? He’s right in pointing out that the Devs feel Warrior rifle needs a tweak, yet Engi rifle doesn’t? It’s like they are trolling us on purpose now.

I don’t think the situation is as dire for us. Warrior doesn’t even have one viable build in platinum-ranked PvP or the daily/monthly ATs.
I’ve voiced my issues regarding the scrapper’s lack of identity and the state of PvP numerously, especially given this is the seventh season and all I’ve really changed between now and season one is my amulet and one utility skill … but at the end of the day scrapper is still one of the best professions to solo queue even in platinum with and had healthy representation in Jebro’s Unity tournament in both NA and EU.
I’m honestly relieved that scrapper has been left alone, seeing that it’s received mostly nothing but nerfs since Heart of Thorns launched in the first place. I’d rather they just focus their energy on holosmith at this point and leave our rifle alone.

Keep in mind that HoT power creep was intentional and we’ll likely see more of the same philosophy with HoT 2.0 design philosophy. That’s to say if rifle is too weak to be used following HoT, it most certainly will be too weak following HoT 2.0.
Personally, I think it feels pretty bad to have a such a disparity in power level between the core and expansion because in the context of GW2 there’s such a large amount of unusable garbage (traits, skills) already. It leaves such an incredibly small space for players who like to tinker/optimize/experiment builds to do so. Intentionally designing in a step change in power level just puts all those garbage skills/traits even further away from being tweaked up to even potential or corner-case usefulness. Rifle is a relic of the past, and that’s quite likely where Anet’s going to leave it.

Me too, because every time we’re in a patch notes, it’s us getting the nerf bat more often than not.

Also, can we point out this juicy tidbit from the patch notes?

People have been complaining about engineer rifle for over 2 years (We only have 3 core weapons), but it’s warrior rifle that needs updating.
Completely agree as someone who plays multiple classes the engineer rifle has been under performing for years now.
Secondly, the melee being a new thing on the engineer needs major look at traits to either provide a huge toughness boost or a healing boost one would think that since it is a relatively new build to have a 2 hander on the engineer class you would work more on it rather than ignore it entirely.
