Must have been a jumbo pack.
Minefield’s back to having a clean bill of health; thank goodness! I was honestly not expecting to see it addressed until the end of June at the earliest. Big thanks for knocking it out quickly!
Hopefully between this and the upcoming fix for Scope this’ll be the beginning of addressing Engineer’s long-suffering issues.
Since we’re speaking of Minefield, any chance of a set (or less random) mine placement? Just food for thought.
Wish the act of detonating Mine Field was a blast finisher.

For a profession that deals in heavy explosives we got very few blast finishers. Well, outside ofcourse sacrificing our Turrets. The very same things Arenanet wants us to babysit and keep alive.
Go figure.
I think they need to boost the proximity detonation of the toolbelt mines, Removing a boon is cool but it doesn’t always happen unless the enemy intentionally steps on it.
That and the mine spread can be a little tighter.
Rifle Turret and Deployable Turrets makes for a 20 second blast finisher.

Wish it would use Reserve Mines placement (although a much smaller AoE), since those tend to always be a circle around you, if a bit spread out.

I’m pretty sure that as long as the enemy takes damage it should remove the boon. That has been the case for me when I’ve used it against vet karka’s to remove retal, are you seeing something different?

Don’t need Deployable Turrets. Since the blast finisher is focused on you when you detonate them, you can just drop the turrets anywhere and run into combo fields to detonate. Unless Deployable Turrets actually fixes that bug?

The boon removal does infact work. Its just against other players, they won’t often trigger the mines since the AoE is small (at least for me).

Shows how little i use turrets, as i didn’t even know the bug existed…
I think the trigger of the finisher is focused on the Turret, but the effect is on the user. I’ve gotten the Healing Turret’s AoE heal from a decent distance away; I’ll test this later to be certain, though.

I agree, but I also find it very easy to force melee attackers to trigger them when fighting on a point. Granted, I spend most of my time in tPvP as a point defender, but the same goes for PvE—you can maneuver in such a way as to force enemies to walk right over them.
They need be a proper 360 range area denial. They could achieve this by increasing mine explosion radius and add more consistent placement. So it feels more like a mine field instead of an old battle ground where u might step on a mine.
I think that will give them the niche they need. As it stands now I use it more against walls or tight spaces to reduce spread and instantly detonate it for vulnerability stacking. It is more of a crappy version of Grenade Barrage right now. Although the boon removal is nice on certain boss fights. Hard to use in PvP environment as u have to get your opponent to run into it to be effective.

The only change it really need is consistent placing bigger explosion radius WITHOUT traiting. It’s already really good passive damage + boon removal + burst as it is.

Well, it’s 5 different mines meaning 5 different Blast finishers.
I also think having two different Blast finisher skills in one slot is a bit OP. (Throw Mine is one already.)
I’m actually not sure Throw Mine is actually a blast finisher and not just suffering a case of inaccurate tooltip. It also says it deals damage, but I’ve never seen the mine being thrown do damage to anything, after all.
@Poe
Then Thumper turret must be OP then. 3 blast finishers
@waka
Agreed without traiting for radius which was bugged for a while. The mine field is not very usuable. Although I use it with my melee burst build when i don’t mind traiting for it when i have bomb kit. Only problem is the spread is the worse of all our abilities. Sometimes I get all 5 mines to kit..other times its only 2. Although again I dont use them as mines. I use them as a Grenade Barrage with boon removal. Other wise you are wasting value time running around like a chicken trying lure enemies into mines.
Also hard to judge the radius unlike the Throw mine there is no range indicator when placed down. Also the thing is the explosion radius is bigger then the proximity so you hit more things by blowing it up manually.
TLDR: it works better as a burst skill then a mine field.

That’s true.
But the Thumper Turret also has like three times the cooldown Throw Mine does.
I never use this skill and very few do, and I’m not a whiner—however:
If the devs push a hotfix for this, it will be good for public relations. Alternatively, if the skill remains unusable…it would be bad for PR. Just sayin’.
Very few use it because they can’t be arsed to drag the enemy all over the place, because of it’s ridiculously small impact area and utterly random Scatter-Pattern™. It does pretty beefy damage + boon removal, if you bother with it though.
Fixed ;-)
Could Minefield also be fixed regarding speedy gadgets? Apparently that reduces the cooldown on Minefield when the tools trait line should be reducing the cooldown on it.

I had not noticed that thanks! Yeah they definitely need to do something about how it throws the mines and the cooldown on the toolbelt.
I would prefer the mines be thrown in a shape in front of me, right now they just go everywhere there’s no pattern and sometimes they are far too far apart to be effective.

Agreed. Right now the only way to ensure that they don’t spread out too much is to use terrain. If you place them on a narrow bridge or catwalk they will cluster together. For example, the bridge to Altar in the Temple of the Silent Storm map. There are plenty of other examples, but it really shouldn’t spread out so much in the first place.

Just thought of something else. neither regular single mine as well as the charr shrapnel mine are affected by the trait called Forceful Explosions. Wonder if they’ll fix that one?
Racial abilities in general aren’t affected by traits at all, as far as I know. (They totally should be, lumped in with whatever skillset seems most fitting to them in each profession to prevent unfair bias of certain races to certain professions.)
