’Ello!

...or rather: Ding!

Just hit 80 on my engineer, and tbh I’m not really sure what to do.

Focus

I’d like to focus on WvW grenade kit. I’ve been getting better at aiming the grenades, and it’s such a unique playstyle, I love it!

Weapon

The weapon I’m using is Rifle, for control / mobility - #4 and #5 are great for getting out of melee range of someone, and the net is good for keeping folks still and then hammering them with grenades.

Skills

Rockin’ the medkit. The #5 + the speedy kit trait = infinite swiftness, which is the closest thing we have to mounts atm. The #4 is great because it gets slows off of me, which will get me killed fast if left alone. #1,2,3 are rarely worth the GCD, but w/e

Grenade kit, ofc.

Net turret, mostly for the F3 ability, which is basically a double of the rifle’s net... rarely drop the actual turret, but if the rifle net and F3 ability are both on CD, the turret does occasionally hit the ground.

Elixer U. Makes me feel like the child of an artillery cannon, and a gatling gun. The F4 rarely does what I want it to, but the invisibility wall has gotten me out of a couple sticky situations.

Ultimate is the Supply Crate, mostly so I can drop a healing turret to help keep my group up... the rest is just crust on the pie. As ultimate’s go, it seems like the engineer ones are a bit lackluster.

Traits

Explosives: 30
Shrapnel - Explosions have a 6% chance to cause bleeding
Short Fuse - Reduce recharge for bombs and grenades by 20%
Granedier - 1500 grenade range, throw 3 grenades

Firearms: 10
Hair Trigger - Rifle skills recharge 20% faster

Inventions: 10
Energized Armor - 5% of toughness is converted to power

Alchemy: 10
Blood Injection - 5% of vitality is converted to condition damage

Tools: 10
Speedy Kits - Gain swiftness for 5 secs when you equikittent. (+ medkit #5 = no gaps in swiftness, since it stacks duration)

Traits probably need work...

Gear

Mostly quest blues. *hides in shame*

Current stats:
Power - 1694
Precision - 1345
Toughness - 1034
Vitality - 1141
Attack - 2727
Crit - 24%
Armor - 1810
Health - 17332

I’m not really sure what stat I should be focusing on with a grenade build. Grenades do a lot of direct damage, but the bleeds and such do a considerable amount as well...

The big question is where do I get end game gear? So far the best I’ve seen is from Karma vendors, but tbh that gear isn’t all that better than what I have, so idk if I want to dump thousands of karma on something I’ll just be replacing soon anyway.

Crafting...? I’ve never really enjoyed crafting in any game... always feels like a grind. I dabbled in it a bit in GW2, and I hate to say it, but it still felt like a grind, albeit a much faster grind than most MMO’s. This is going to sound lazy, but if crafting is the solution, is there I reliable guide I can follow to just crank out 0-400 asap, and get the pieces I need? I really don’t want to invest much time in crafting when I could be doing WvW.

Something else? Instances? Jumping puzzles? That forge thing in LA? ...halp!

Anything Else?

Any tips, tricks, advice, or criticism would be much appreciated!

Thanks all!!

-Hal

I would go for knights, or soldiers gear.

Knights being power precision and toughness.

Soldiers being power toughness and vitality.

Soldiers gear is a bit harder to get, since it is usually from dungeon sets and from karma vendors, but it does exist.

Depends on whether you want to live, or kill more.

But either set should work for that build.

I’d mix knights 50/50 with berzerkers or valkyries. You’ll get a good mix of survivability and dps.

With elixir U’s tool belt if you use it purely in a escape function it is actually pretty effective when it actually fires.

Drop it in front of you at an arch way / gate way / stairs and run through it. You’ll either get stealth, a condition removal + knock / projectile wall, or a projectile wall + blind.

When used in this fashion the randomness is less of a factor. It’s not like you dropping it with the intent of getting a wall or projectile reflect, or even stealth. Since no matter what you get it will help you to escape.

Actually, for perma-swiftness, speedy kits is enough. You don’t need to use the med kit #5 to maintain swiftness, since the speedy kits give you 5 seconds of swiftness on a 5 second cooldown

Unless you have PERFECT timing with your kits, there will be gaps in the swiftness. It’d be nice if they had it set to give 6 seconds of swiftness on a 5 sec CD, so we have a window of overlap with which to reequip. Or better yet, just make it so that you have swiftness when a kit is equipped and take the button mashing out of it… atleast out of combat; in combat it should probably stay as is.

Anywho, the medkit #5 more than makes up for any human error.

This is actually interesting.
You have to decide where you want to be with your build, but you are on the right way. I thouth of a “con-damage” grenadier myself but never tested it.

Personally i am rolling with “power/precision/crit. damage” gear. And it is really effective with grenade kit + rifle.

Oh and 5% of one stat bonuses, are pretty weak,i think you can spend those skillpoints for something else.

as for gear :
Condition damage, Crits,Power → Rampagers gear. And i would reccomend you getting “30% chance on crit = burn” if you’ll go there.
Con. dmg, power, vitality → Carrion gear. This would focus on bleeds more, but i think in that case pistol + pistol might be better.

For raw power and crazy bursts, take berserker gear.

Utility skills:
6.I use Med kit(with permaswiftness ofcourse)
7.Elixir U (If its a smoke-screen you can use it with your rocket jump,to stealth) or Slick shoes.
8.Elixir S (really helps with burst-like builds like every thief and hundered blades warriors) or Utility goggles(10 stacks of vuln. even more crazy burst)

And Supply crate.as it is the best elite skill you can have (controll,med-kits,net turret, regeneration….so good)

Following ProstoBob’s idea, if you go into firearms you can get a much more reliable swiftness boost with the Adept major trait “Infused Precision.” You’ll have, most likely, a 1 second delay between the end of the swiftness and a beginning if you want constant swiftness in combat.

Oh, you almost always crit on critters, so you could have fun speeding yourself up by killing critters along the way.

. . . Not like there needs to be a reason to kill them . . . other than to boost your kitten by seeing 50k oneshots on poor, defenseless creature. . .

Speaking of Elites. I usually switch between the Supply crate and my Charr Warband call. It’s fun to see two extra people jump out and start wailing away on your enemy!

Where do you get berserker gear?
