Recently on these forums I have seen a ton of negativity based on what we saw on PoI. However I want to point some things out:

1: Not to be rude to the dev but we never saw the spec played in any sort of optimal manner. The fights vs the training AI had him making very little to no use of all the combos the spec has access to.

2: While the base damage on many Hammer attacks seem low, don’t forget the spec has the potential for absurd might stacking and Vulnerability application (and weakness). This means that as the fight goes on the Scrapper will be hitting harder and harder.

3: While gyros may still be weak to AoE, it will be possible to buff them to be much tankier I believe. You can use the healing gyro to heal the bulwark and use the toolbelt skill to give both Protection. You can also bring FT or Bomb kit or whatever for blasts in the water field.

4: We currently know very little about raids so saying the spec is useless in PvE seems silly. Sure, maybe it won’t be great in the PvE we have now, but if there are enemies you have to stomp in raids and they actively deny stomps and reses then having a gyro that spawns with Stab could be invaluable.

Can we PLEASE wait until we actually PLAY the Scrapper before deciding that it’s bad?

Here’s the problem with Hammer’s base damage being low:

Bunker builds need a reason to draw the attention of people. A good example of this is the Egun/Mortar bunker Engineer. It has tons of conditions, might, and regeneration. Focusing the Engineer is a good priority, even if he is tanky, because actively ignoring him means hes providing substantial health per second and applying the wonderfully balanced burn condition. There is a REASON for that build to be tanky, because it can both survive and punish you for not focusing the Engineer.

Now lets take a look at Scrapper and his hammer. No conditions, meaning you’re looking at something like PvT gear, but at the same time it has low base damages. Now, it DOES have blocks and reflects, so you are punished for actively focusing the Scrapper, but you are not actively punished for NOT focusing him, which is huge.

“But bruv, the gyros! If you ignore the gyros, they do so much!”

First off, Health. They have no kitten health. They’ll blow up to standard cleave and AoE abilities. Second, lets assume their health is changed so that they are VERY tanky, even considering that they can be crit (lol) have conditions applied to them (LOL) and be stunned (LMAO). What the HELL do you get for running Gyros? Some cleanses? Healing that is worse than HT even if you get the whole duration off? Stealth that couldn’t give away where you and your team are any harder if it was literally shadow refuge? Some whirls? Super speed, so you can run away from fights you aren’t going to win faster?

“So what if we just don’t run Gyros and just use the hammer and the tanky traits?”

Then you aren’t the Scrapper anymore. You’re standard bunker kit engineer with a leap and an electric field. Thank god we get one of these specs every xpac. I’m already hyped for the next one….in three years /s

I guess I’m somewhere in between you two. I don’t think the hammer’s base damage looked that low, the auto attack chain with Marauder’s ammy was doing <2k, 2k+, 3k+. You can also put out damage with three skills without taking damage (2=reflect, 3=evade, 4=block). This looks good, but we’ll have to see how it plays out. Maybe it does need to be tuned up. That’s what the BWE is for.

As for this place becoming a ton of negativity? I feel like I want to defend against that statement. On Wednesday and Thursday I agree it was bad. So many assumptions, so much conjecture, all leading to doom and gloom. Now? I think for the most part people are giving good feedback and it seems like it’s mostly agreed on that the hammer looks great (damage notwithstanding, the weapon itself is designed practically perfectly). Traits are pretty good, could use some incentives for PvE players.

Gyros are the big red flag, and of all the gyro feedback I have seen very little “this stuff sucks, fire the guy who made it” nonsense. I’ve seen a lot of valid feedback with tons of suggestions that actually seem pretty realistic (give gyros Endure Pain). Even you say they can be buffed to be much tankier, so aren’t you basically saying the same thing as everyone else? Also no, the heal gyro and the tank gyro are not going out to any parties together in their current forms. The tank will die in two hits, and the healer will put out maybe 1k healing. It’s a neat idea but it’s just not working now, which is the point of feedback!

Negative feedback doesn’t mean this place is negative. I’ve only been refreshing the Engi forums here since yesterday because it’s stayed pretty helpful I think. I don’t think it’s fair to say that it’s a negative place just because people don’t like gyros. They shouldn’t like gyros as they are right now because they’re turrets all over again and we know how scarred Engi players are because of turrets.
