What we really need instead of Holosmith
why have i to play something similar to other classes ? I hated scrapper for the fact that it transformed engineer in a melee class …. a "technichan warrior or guardian … " …. we want the original play stile of engineer, dancing between melee and range in close … as it has been since 2012. If we want another kind of gameplay we change class.
I still like more my idea of “enhancing lenses” for a ranged spec for engie. The engie with tis spec can mount “lenses” in the ground that give extra effects for himself and his allies, like extra damage, adding conditions to the attacks, dividing or multiplying projectiles, etc. Since the lenses would be inmobile and directional, the spec would benefit ranged combat the most.

Honestly, I was hoping that the Sword would be a Mainhand Range weapon for Engineer.
It could have created light wave slash as their range attack thanks to the Holosmith’s ability to manipulate Holo projections into physically harming enemies.
Holosmith did get this ability as a Master Trait that turns the Holo Form auto skill (Skill 1) into a Range Attack but I was hoping it would have been on the Main Hand Sword instead.
Though at least Engineer finally got a Main hand Power weapon and it may go well with Shield using Shield to block projectiles when closing in on enemies and then going crit crazy on them.
I will most likely take that Master trait that turn Holo Form auto attack into a Range attack to synergize with the fact I will be using Sword/shield for melee.
The core Engineer is our ranged option.
We do not need a new spec, we need to the core class’s many issues addressed.
Sorry but if Engineers had a Death Shroud-like mechanic that gave us a second health bar, we would become unkillable. That would just be beyond broken.

But core engi has no power based 1200 range weapon. Nor 900 range. Rifle is power but most skills of rifle are for melee.

Of course it should be balanced. It could drain energy (health) much quicker than Death Shroud or something else could be done to make it more balanced.
I could see Engies getting the barrier mechanic somewhere down the line. Not soon though.
