what does engi -need-?
I don’t think you’re wrong about a new element and don’t even disagree it could be damage based but I’m having a hard time trying to put it together. Do you use marks and tag an enemy? If so how does it work and does it require a gimmick?

Since I don’t do raids… how is vuln stacking not a thing in raids? Are the bosses vuln immune?
I thought maybe an engi could have a meta effect of making others near them better at what they do. Maybe shorten refresh times, or extend durations, or allow two uses of a skill before needing to pay the cooldown, that sort of thing. Maybe something even that doesn’t actually help an engi on its own (since the engi is normally oriented around that specifically) but only helps the group this way.

Back in the old days champions+ had a -50% vuln duration, wich made us valuable. Nowdays, this buff is gone AND in raids you are twice as many ppl who only need to sustain a little vuln to keep it up at 25 stacks.
In the old days, Engi sustained 15 stacks vuln on those -50% duration targets, other professions 3-5.

I was thinking about something very simple, a trait similar to Applied Force like “Apply Cracked Armor for every stack of Vulnerability above the threshold”, numbers are up to you, it’s just a proof of concept.
One handed power weapon to go with shield. Shield also needs some love.
i wouldn’t mind this, but i’d prefer it to be ranged, at least in my preferences. that being said…what the kitten would it be.
i think, still, engineer is one of those professions that needs new (as in do not exist yet) weapons to come into the game for it to go anywhere.One handed CQC would be mace.
I don’t think there are any one handed “power” weapons that are long range. Design choice.
and no sensible engineer would take it over hammer unless it offered a leap, and shield was re-done to be useful.
True. Thats why shield needs a rework. Maybe a mace with hyrbid offensive ability that can be paired with offhand pistol/shiled for either a condi or power build.
It would need to be purely offensive though to keep a clear identity.

-Shield rework
-Remove cast time on all toss elixirs besides X
-Rework Gadgets, Turrets <- that will never happen

-Party wide buff- Could be a vitally buff that no other class has it, but I personal don’t want that.
-Rework Backpack regenerator and inversion enzyme Traits I’m not even sure anyone uses them
-Rework some traits [Glass Cannon<- If you get touched by dps you lose this, Steel-packed powder, shaped charge <- Rev minor trait is this, short fuse <- make this base line, rework all master trait for explosives so they are effect.Reactive lenses, Gadgeteer, shorter cd on kinetic battery,soothing detonation,expert examination.

Personal rude I’m too in love with my healing turret for pvp and solo roaming in wvw to want a buff to medkit, but that is just me and blast gyro has it’s place in small man, and the healing gyro gets out done by healing turret atm.

- you can repair turrets using the tool kit autoattack(5% each hit:10% with power wrench trait) figured if we can repair turrets, it would make sense to be able to cure the conditions with it.
-deep wound is a condition in gw1 that temporarily reduces the max hp by 20%(does not stack)
A grappling hook would be sick. The ability to switch between weapon sets (I know I know, Kits.. but it would be awesome)
Engineer becomes a focused toolkit specialist. A device kit or weapon kit can be chosen instead of a weapon set (but you lose the tool belt utility) but have the same baseline abilities as the kit.
How many times have you wanted that extra utility slot and wanted to drop the main weapon option altogether? Engineers now have their own unique perma weapon sets.
EDIT: You would still have a weapon equipped for the stats/sigils. The kit icon is chosen (like Revenant with one option) when out of combat.

Engi needs the same thing as everyone else: MORE SPEC OPTIONS!
Engi needs main hand sword. I’ll never play anything else.
Main hand dagger is another option i would love to see too, but yeah, i think a lot of us we agree that shield, and our med kit, need a serious work, i mean, i would love to be 100% healer with med kit as long as our heals make the no-dps worth it, transform the boons that med kit offers into elixirs boons, it would had a better synergy with our alchemy trait!
Hey! Don’t touch my jack of all trade class! That’s why i love playing this class (and this is the only class i enjoy playing in this game)! I hate to be pigeonholed in one role, so restrictive!
But still that we don’t have too much team option. So maybe, yes, some supportive or healing tools (i suppose they are going to be elite spec) for being welcome in raids for exemple.
A way to apply ‘unblockable’ for a period of time
Yes pls. Utility goggles is good candidate for this.
It has always been a wonder of mine, since HoT came out, why Analyze (a single target skill) was still on such a long cool-down. Adding an Unblockable debuff skill fact for a period of time (that your allies can also take advantage of) would justify this and make Utility Goggles a better skill to take in PvP.
As for Utility Goggles itself. I’m not sure 40 seconds base cool-down is a very balanced affair. Especially since this skill + utility is almost, benefit for benefit, a direct replica of Revenant’s Facet of Darkness + Gaze of Darkness which for some special reason has only a 20 second cool-down (50% less than Utility Goggles at this moment).
Edit It is also worth it to note that Revenant also gets high fury up-time relative to skill cool-down, as well as AoE 5 target reveal on half the cool-down vs the Engineer’s single target reveal with a 25s CD even when not mentioning the other replicated abilities.
A CD reduction for Utility Goggles should therefore, in my opinion, at least be on the table as well as the bug fixes for the issues listed on the Wiki.
If Unblockable skill fact is added to Analyze consider changing the Trait in Tools (Lock On) to also proc on blocks as well. Reactive Lenses should also be changed to reflect any other changes as well.

A melee weapon OUTSIDE the elite spec. Otherwise I’m sucking on EVERY reflect I encounter. That’s a deficiency IMO.

Just like there’s a trait in Scrapper that gives quickness when you stack too much might, there should be a trait that adds another layer of vuln-like debuff when the vuln stack is past a certain threshold.
I like this idea. What if expert examination was changed to “interrupting a foe applies vulnerability and weakness to them. You can apply up to 30 stacks of vulnerability”. That makes it more useful to core engi and gives us a unique damage boost in groups.

Another cool alternative idea adding to what you said coudl be:
If the enemy reaches full stack in vulnerability, the foe will be vulnerable to be hitted by Gunk from any critical hit for 7 secs, gets resetted each 30 secs.
