Hello guys! Haven’t been following HoT update notes/rumors/etc., was there anything about guard’s mobility/movespeed/swift. sources that’s gonna be implemented/changed?

The only thing that can affect the guardian movement speed is that Chill and Cripple will no longer affect our movement skills. Nothing more.
We can teleport to a enemy with sword and meditation, leap with gs and if you really want a movement speed passive bonus there’s the apposite Rune. And we can obtain a large amount of swiftness.
No more. But it’is better than nothing.
I’ve try the necro (beautifull class) and they really haven’t a single good movement skill to go to a enemy, only wurm and shadow walk to teleport back ot they’re previous position, that sometimes isn’t even good to escape from a enemy.

Guardian isn’t the best class in movement, but also isn’t the worst. Necro and engi haven’t a single good movement skill, expecially to catch a enemy.
If you look to memser, they have a utility that make them teleport, a clone-swap and a little movement back on the staff. (yes, they have hide that help, but in movement skills we’re not the last class)

My Runes of the Traveler armor still works just fine. All speed buffs are a exercise in trade-offs. You can have it if you want it enough. The question is ‘are you willing to pay?’

Necro and engi haven’t a single good movement skill, expecially to catch a enemy.

Engi:
- Rifle #5
- Rocket Boots
- Elixir Gun #4
- Perma Swiftness

most engineers nowadays have 3 of these (apart from pistol/shield condi engis)

I’ll always use runes of speed on my medi guard….until I get warrior’s sprint baseline. ummm errr nvm.

They get a 25% movement speed buff in the upcoming Chronomancer trait line. Also comes with 33% reduction in chill/cripple.

Dev’s also mentioned that signet of inspiration will now also always give 10s of swiftness + another boon.

There is also the trait that gives +10% move speed per illusion active & swiftness per illusion shattered.
So they have quite a few choices.

get traveller/speed runes on Medi or retreat on shout build as mentioned above or if you get really annoyed do like me and just log a warrior and revel in the warrior sprint trait.

Lack of Swiftness is and will be our flaw.

Traveler Runes are a crotch. Staff Swiftness sucks. Retreat is an awsome utility but if you do not go for Pure of Voice or Trooper runes it takes up a condi cleanse utility spot.

Thats also the reason that will cripple trap builds. you need the slots for condi cleanse respectively the utilites that are tied to it. This wouldnt be so much of a problem if the heal trap had a decent condi cleanse.

Since noone actually answered my question, I’ll assume there’s nothing related coming for guard.

Althou necro/engi and mesmer have/will get a movespeed, note that they are mostly mid-ranged combat classes, whereas guardian is a melee-focused class, with 1 trash ranged weapon (and a bow incoming), it’s just frustrating to be the only melee w/o a base speedup. A class shouldn’t be bound to 2 runesets to be comfortable in fights.

Rocket boot is actually a nerf since it removes chill and cripple upon activation already. Now swiftness and superspeed won’t buff its range. Also I have yet to see an engi uses Rifle, Elixer gun, and rocket boots in one build…

Because necro has a silly ammount of soft cc when used properly and the right moment.

while I would welcome the addition of a passive speed boost, guardian is the only class where I never felt like I needed it.

hallowed ground > staff 3 > retreat > save yourselves = over 1 minute of 33% movement that you can overlap. frequently. add boon duration (which never hurts on a guard anyway) and you can run forever, faster than the 25% passives. these skills recharge fast enough you can swap them on the fly when you need them.

Please give us better combat, damage, and healing traits. No passive speed boost for me.

Staff 3 is the worst source of swiftness in this game. You have to stand in the circle for like 4 seconds to get the full benefit. Meanwhile a thief outruns you with a single dagger2. I do not think that a prof should be binded to 2 shouts and a crappy weapon to achieve what others can do with a minor trait.

In wvw and spvp it’s so bloody obvious there is only ONE chance you get without movement speed runes. You are a bunker.

imo i feel medidations cover that pretty well to, and yeah better area denial and pressure without being stuck with hammer GS would be nice, i do like the 20% damage while on simbols anyway.
I kinda like the mace update, if shield gets changed for better and fixed it might be a good build to take into account.

I keep a set of armor w/ travelers runes and more often than not that’s what I have equiped unless I’m running with a guild/Zerg. Finally crafting my ascended armor and it is frustrating since the only real meta using travelers is wvw roaming. It’s not bad when running staff secondary and shouts but the majority of the other classes get it through a passive trait which is much better than being pigeon hold into a utility and weapon slot.
You would have thought with adding the longbow trait line movement speed would have been a no brainer. I highly doubt those speccing into dragonhunter are going to want to slot 1-2 shouts just for swiftness

A Thief outruns everyone. It’s why he’s call a Thief.

I’m sorry but we shouldn’t be able to deal massive damage and be mobile at the same time. In most cases, our only counter is the lack of mobility. If gained, we would be unbalanced and ArenaNet would further limit build diversity on the class general.

What was needed is a CC for peel counters, or a buff in our spear-head abilities. We were given an F1 immobolize CC but we have to see how effective it really is. Whether or not the trait is an instant cast will govern its effectiveness.

Our current damage output is a poor argument against them implementing a movement speed trait. Many of the classes that already have the movement perks have better sustained and burst damage. Mesmer finally got brought up to speed… No pun intended, why are we left behind?

I agree that meditation guardians do not need +25% speed trait but the rest of the builds would kill for such. Put it into the Valor trait line as a minor/major so it competes with MediMastery or FocusedMind ( I cannot tell you where these traits going to be after the HoT…) and you buffed some other builds while keeping the mediguard as it is.
