Hi folks,

I’d like to hold a thread for everyone to post their feedback in one spot as an easy read for the developers. I would ask that you keep the debate to a minimum as they tend to unnecessarily inflate the data that needs to be sifted through. Feel free to link this thread in new threads should you want to have a lively discussion about particular topics.

With that said here is my list of feedback concerning the state of the guardian.

1) Merciful Intervention – a bullocks ability, make it targetable please. A dream change would be for it to be another AOE ground target heal/teleport, but now that’s just crazy talk.
2) Symbols (in general) – too many traits and weapons rely on them to do the pittance of damage that they do. When fighting another guardian I don’t even bother staying out of their symbols, they just aren’t punishing enough. Maybe a punishing condition like weakness/vulnerability/blind on pulse? or just up the damage to make ppl notice, considering that all but 1 requires you to be in melee range to apply anyway it doesn’t seem like an unreasonable request.
3) Smite – Just make this a symbol already…..it is the shining light on an otherwise terrible weapon. Applying symbol traits to this ability might just save this weapon, assuming that increasing the projectile speed on scepter’s #1 ability is just too much…..
4) Scepter’s #1 – Just see above…..
5) GS in general – Give this thing some love already…the hammer is superior in every way to it. This has been proven multiple times in this forum. Also, Ring of Warding trumps Binding Blade in every way. It’s way too clunky for a 600 range pull, esp since you have to rely on a projectile hitting your target(s). In WvWvW I’m lucky if I can even get 2 ppl pulled back to me in a zerg, out of 5….
6) Bane Signet – A .75s cast time on a long range interrupt ability is painful….drop it to .25s please so I can use it to counter enemy casts.
7) Smite Condition – Punishing damage is “meh”, a 2.5k crit max on a full out power/crit dam build doesn’t entice me enough to use it in the way it was intended. You could up the cleanse’s punishing damage to 3x or allow it to cleanse up to 2 or 3 (balance decision here) conditions and multiply the damage per condition cleansed (i.e. 1 cleansed is 2x, 2 is 3x, etc.). This would instantly make it a staple utility guardian’s would need to use tactically.
8) Book Elites – Difficult to say how to fix them, just not really that effective against opponents with more than half a thought. Stock stability for the entire duration would help a lot and is consistent with most of the elite class transform abilities (i.e. juggernaut, tornado, etc.)
9) Virtue of Resolve – I find this really underwhelming unless traited for Absolute Resolution, then it becomes near OP (unlimited target AOE 1650+hp heal + 3 condition cleanse/fear breaker on a maximum 48s CD). I really love this Virtue when I have the trait, and at the same time I hate it when I don’t have the trait. Maybe baseline a weaker version of this trait (i.e. add a 1 condition cleanse).
10) Staff – I really, really want to love this weapon, but it’s anemic in focus. It’s like 1/4 support, 1/4 AOE, 1/4 control, 1/4 heal. Although this could very well be a high skill curve weapon.
11) Spirit Weapons – Give them damage contributions from your weapon and they’re golden. They currently hit for way too little for the mandatory downtime that comes with them. If overall damage output is a concern, shorten their duration, just make them something to be feared in the fray.
12) Purging Flames – Please fix it so that it cleanses 1 condition per second in the consecration. Currently bugged/designed to kill 1 condition upon cast which just makes it a PBAOE fire field unless otherwise traited. I would like to add this into my rotation of abilities, but just doesn’t perform well.
13) Signet of Mercy – The revive downed ally spells in general are far too clunky and too long of a CD to warrant use. If you really want us to use these long CD abilities, change from revive downed ally to revive defeated ally. That there is a game changer utility worthy of a 4min CD.
14) Signet of Wrath – Does anyone take this utility anymore?
15) Healing Abilities – Either Signet of Restoration is OP or both Shelter and Healing Breeze are so underwhelming that nobody uses Signet of Restoration apart from very specific niche block builds that use Shelter. Seems that they need to be brought up to par.

i reply only on some point, because i agree 100% to the rest:

2)i already create a suggestion topic, and i have proposed an idea like this… i hope staff take in consideration the idea to make simbols more punitive, because they are awesome for Pve, but for PVP they simply are images on the ground, all enemies go on your simbols, but no one is punished.

7)smithe condition is already a powerfull skill if traited… ok its not a great punish, but cure condition, damage, heals…with a 20\16 sec cd. for me its ok.

8) i dont understand why we cant use utilities when we summon the book, for me its the only tweak they need.

15) shelter is the only real block skill we have (beside focus #5), it dont heal too much, but i think its ok… for healing breeze i agree, its kinda useless in this actual form.

Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs.

1) It really need to be ground targeted. However I do not want the skill to require manual targeting of an ally since supports skills don’t do that in GW2 (and I like it like that!). So only option I see is to make it ground targeted.

2) Symbols don’t hit hard because they also provide a boon to allies on it. So it is sort of a trade off. If you make then punish your opponent for stepping in them, then they just become like traps or marks. I like the symbols as they are. However, we really need more symbols! We can have only 1 symbol on a weapon, meaning only 2 symbols available at most with 2 weapons set. With so many traits that are based on it we need more skills with symbol. I would like utilities skills that are symbol and make a new weapon that focus on symbols. The necro got a bloody weapon with 4 marks on it, so why not us??

I agree with you on 3 and 4. Scepter need a buff.

5) The GS was nice with the SoW on skill 2. Nerfing the damage of the GS because of a retaliation problem was a mistake on Arena’s part in my opinion. They should just bring SoW on skill 2 like it was before and make the symbol grant might rather than retaliation. Might make more sense anyway for the GS since it is primarily a DPS weapon. I agree the range on skill 5 make it hard to use in PvP, but it’s a very good skill in PvE. Maybe make it range 900? But that might make it too good.

6) I don’t think Bane is supposed to be a interrupt skill. It’s the knockdown that make this skill good since we have so little CC.

7) Smite Condition alreay have a very low CD and the damage is AoE which is nice when surrounded. Compared to CoP it will remove 3 conditions and do it’s damage 3 time in a rotation of 60s so I think the skill is nice where it is.

8) Like many have comments before, we should have acces to our skills 6-9 when in a tome form. Not having our utilities while in a tome make them very hard to use effectively. I think I speak for any professions when I say that all elite that transform you should only switch your weapon bar and not touch your heal and utility bar. It is not fun making a build based on the skills you equip and not have access to them when using your elite skill. This make the elites not build friendly. Elites should not restraints our options!

9) I agree the healing on it is rather meh. However with only 5 points in Virtues it is already good. Combine it with Renewed Focus and it will provide 10s of regenration with ok healing instantly. If you have +healing gear it is even better. So it is hard to say if it need a boost or not. Since all guardians have the virtues, boosting it boost all guardian. Right now I think it’s not too bad as it is.

10) I agree the staff need more focus. Either make it more pure support but making skill 2 a AoE quick heal or make it a ranged weapon by improving skill 2 and putting a good AoE damage skill on skill 4. I don’t have problem with skill 1, 3 and 5 though.

I agree with 11 and 12 also.

13) The problem is that Arena doesn’t seems to want to split skills for PvP and PvE. Reviving defeated player is clearly a problem in PvP and WvW. However there is no excuse to not being able to revive defeated player in PvE. In PvP it should only revive downed player and have half the cooldown. In PvE make it revive a defeated player and keep the 240s CD. Being able to avoid a total wipe is worth a high CD, but 240s CD with a 3.75s of cast time to hope of reviving a downed player is useless. EDIT : Also when you use this skill and there is no downed player nearby the skill fail BUT will fall on it’s 240 CD. This need to be fixed as well!

14) The problem is the passive provide condition damage while we are probably the worst profession with conditions since burning is the only thing we can apply easily. Make it give Precision as a passive and you might actually see it used more. The active is really not bad.

15) Shelter not bad, might need a small boost in healing, but the damage it potentially block can be much better than the signet. Healing Breeze should be an AoE circle centered on the guardian, having to target the cone to heal others is not reliable and often you miss 1-2s out of the 3s of healing meaning you waste 33% to 66% of the healing you do to others. I would even add a remove 1 condition on healing breeze to make up for the small healing it provide to others.
