Dragonhunter Underwhelming
Eh? Sounds pretty great to me, gives Guardian range, leap and much more than just aoe buffs around self. That’s a lot more active play.
This is getting out of hand.
You got a very sparse preview of the Dragonhunter. How about you wait until you at least have some idea what the spec actually does before you start complaining that it’s UP/OP/Unfun to play/killed your parents, ok?
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.
kitten i did not know Jasher had the ability to see the future. You know literally nothing about the class strength YET, so how about we wait and see?

yepp, I like it quite a bit too, the new virtues sounds like it could be pretty cool for actively guarding (like in the name of the class) allies.
The Longbow could be cool as well, there isn’t too much high range support in the game atm.
I personally think Hambow 2.0 or Great Swordbow could be a thing. And even if not. A standard meditation build could put the wall and leap to good use, especially if the trait that makes the leap deal damage is substantial.

The anet blog doesn’t sell it nearly as well as the more detailed ten-ton hammer article. TTH makes it sound way more engaging and active than guardian currently is.
Dragon Hunter – If your enemy is using a projectile attack and is attacking your allies, you can fire your Deflecting Shot in its path and, with the right timing, destroy all of your enemy’s projectiles along the way.
chronomancer – One such skill, called Tides of Time, launches a wall of compressed temporal energy from the chronomancer’s shield that travels forward a moderate distance, absorbing all projectiles that are fired into it.
Which would win out?

Wall of Reflection.
I don’t play Guardian as my main. Maybe I feel this way because it’s following on the heels of the Chronomancer reveal why it sounds so… “meh”.
whew, i am glad that it wasn’t thieves that got traps specialization
i wonder what the range on guardian attacks will be though, hopefully not another 2k snipes

Why would thieves get traps? They already have them.

heh, True.
Might just be me but I think Anet opened with their high card. Chronomancer is gonna be a tough act for any specialization to follow.

well because no thief in their right mind uses them outside of very very rare cases…. knowing how anet would love us to play something unpopular (cough random venom buffs) i honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they had added traps specialization
i am just glad i was wrong…

I will say, compared to the Chronomancer preview, the Dragon Hunter just wasn’t as impressive was all.
I think that in general ANET is changing too much too fast. They seem to be bent on promoting “active” play. The fact is though.. such play will strongly favor people with newish computers and nice internet connections.
No, I’m not all that good at timing exactly when to throw a block by an enemy’s attack animation. ANET I LIKE MY GUARDIANS, WHY ARE YOU MAKING CLASSES HARDER TO PLAY INSTEAD OF FIXING GLARING BALANCE ISSUES?
WAKE UP! NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO PLAY A HYPER REFLEX ELITIST BUILD. SORRY< BUT I"D LIKE SOME MORE “PASSIVE” PLAY OPTIONS..
I’M WELL NORTH OF 40 AND I DON’T HAVE A KID’S REACTION TIME.
When they bring trapper runes…watch out. Guardians with high access to stealth + superspeed…gonna be OP.
-snip-
Is it wrong that I actually sympathize with this guy? I am not in favor of making classes more complex.

I was wondering about this two, invisible high speed long range condi Guardian. He’ll make a good WvW roamer, that’s for sure.

LUCKY FOR YOU THE NORMAL GUARDIAN IS STILL LEFT, AS WELL AS MOST OF THE OTHER MORE PASSIVE BUILDS ON THE OTHER 7 PROFESSIONS.
Now, i personally love the dragon hunter. Sounds alot more active and skill-based than the guardian currently is! Love the direction the game is going so much.
^ Usually only characer that i play on
For some reason, with the changes to virtues the specialisation sounds super clunky and the bow attacks seem like they won’t be able to deliver much pressure offensively.
I’d wait and see before making judgments like that. Weapons with long range AoE have been great in PvP for a very long time.
(Warrior Longbow, Ele staff, Engineer grenades, Necro Staff, Mesmer Staff/GS, Thief Shortbow, etc)

Don’t worry. Rangers, necromancers, warriors and guardians will most likely remain slow, easy professions, no matter their specialization. The only build you’ll miss is clone-death mesmer.

I would love to know how you came to that conclusion.
Nevermind, i actually don’t really wanna know at all, sorry.
(Basically wait at least for the stream to judge please).

He’s playing a chronomancer, that’s how.

Necros are on eof the hardest classes to play well at the moment. Not in 1v1s, but in teamfights where positioning is key.

“bow attacks seem like they won’t be able to deliver much pressure offensively”
Seems surprisingly unconnected to chronomancer if you ask me.

I agree, it’s hard to really master a necromancer in pvp. However, they still have slow, easy to land attacks, and long cast times. Positioning is hard and requires skill, but not necessarily fast reflexes.

He has seen the future! Because he’s a chronomancer. I’m sorry, my joke was too bad to be understood.
Yes, I like clone death Mesmer. As I mentioned, I’m North of 40 and my left hand is partially crippled. I dislike the trend of making classes more “skill based.” Let’s be honest, “skill based,” in this context means “better internet connection and reaction speed.”
Let’s be even more honest. I’m in the demographic that has the most money to spend on this game. ANET has made it abundantly clear that profit is a primary motive.
I like my Altruistic Heal/Retaliation Guardians. More important, I can succeed with them. My point is that making a class harder to play for the sake of making it feel more elite is stupid in the long run.
This is why the PvP “community” doesn’t grow. Other than trash power ranger… there isn’t a real entry point for new people.
I vividly remember on Thief… I met a brand new guardian in Queensdale. She was losing badly to a bandit. I rezzed her and killed the bandit, then talked to her about some of the guardian options for blocking and retaliation.
Her response? “Screw this, it’s not fun.” Let that be a lesson to you ANET.

good luck with feedback and temporal curtain

she shouldnt be playing anyways, if she cant kill a mob as a guardian, than she shouldn’t be playing this game, good riddance, like jesus christ my first character was a mesmer and i didnt have that much trouble at all, we dont need anymore dumb kittenes in this game like her, bet this happens in all other mmo’s that shes tried, im so shocked on how much a noob can be a noob, even i was that bad -_-

Sorry, but you speak for a minority of players here. Easy to play builds are generally hated in PvP, especially if they are in any way effective. Just look at the most recently destroyed Turret Engineer.
I’m just waiting for people to eat every word when they see the traits tomorrow…
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I want this thread to be archived for when this goes live and people do a 180 about this specialization. Or I’ll be eating my own words.
What more were you all expecting? Guardians lacked a true range weapon and longbow, so far, is fulfilling that. We will certainly know more tomorrow about all of the skills and utilities so hang in there.

In regards to the long range weapon, I hope your right. It just seems from what I read and saw the longbow plays more of a support role as opposed to a ranged “weapon.” I hope I am wrong and it does both, we shall see.
Really looking forward to this. To be honest I run a soldier/dire aoe burn guardian. (mostly for wvw and pve. In TPvP I run a consec build) And what they just announced is a god send for me.
I have always wanted an aoe setup that functioned differently than consecrations. (Ty for the traps! No really this is freaking awesome) I have always hated how long it could take for a non meta build to recover from a fight (Not having decent ranged option pidgeonholed you into certain setups because you couldn’t get back to recover and still be useful)
Not having the mobility to chase certain targets or the ability to keep certain targets from escaping (hope you like hammer)
Honestly this spec seems to give me every single thing I wish I could have had for my guardian. While still letting me fulfill the guardian role. Loving it.

The one that is fired last I presume.
