Guardian build doubt
Thanks I’ll check it out!
pve is 4/5/0/0/5 GS + Sword/focus
The thing is that i don’t want to build it as full DPS, I’d like it to be more tanky, not full berserker
Well there is no point to building tanky in PVE. As a guardian especially you have so much active dmg mitigation like blocks, blinds, and dodges that youll rarely get hit in the first place, and dead enemies deal no dmg.
Ow That’s a shame because the guardians looks so much like a tank… Is it viable building it more like a support, for buffing the party??
guards aren’t tanks, they are actually one of the best dps classes under ele
support classes roles are handed off to shout warriors, spotter rangers, and eles
you can build bunker/frontline for WvW zergballs however

They are one of the tankiest classes. In this game however there is no trinity like healer/DPS/tank. Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them. You can avoid attacks via blind, blocks, teleports, and evades/dodges. Every class also has their own healing skill, which is your #6 slot. The current meta for PVE is to use full dmg gear an traits and wipe out mobs and bosses as quickly as possible, using active defense to avoid dying. Support doesn’t rely on stats like healing power and boon duration, as a full dmg setup will still have all the boons, reflects, mighstacking, and aegis/protection a normal group would while still dealing top tier dmg. In other words, you should rethink your definition of support into not being purely healing based. Every class already has their own #6 heal and anything you can give them would be very lackluster.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first

Any meaningful support of a guardian is independent of gear, at least in PvE where healing is useless.
Apart from that, there are no tanks at all in this game, as there are no means for reliable control of a mob’s aggro. Bunkering is possible, especially in WvW and PvP, but you’ll be absolutely useless 90 % of the time in a dungeon.

Thank you all for the responses! I’ll have to change my mind on what I was thinking then and go more DPS.

This is a tanky DPS build. It was originally based on TAPDATMOUSE’s commando build. It is good for Dungeons and WvW
Don’t use that build in PvE lol. That’s a WvW build. Of course, you can use whatever you want but…

Don’t see it like that. See it like :
A tank build in GW2 PvE = Selfish personal survivability build. Why? Because toughness and vitality only give survivability to you and give nothing to the party. Healing Power could be good for the party, but it scale really badly and at the end give really small advantage to the party.
What you want is a DPS/Support Build. Your lucky because that’s where the guardian is the best for and because of that, the guardian have the best trait diversity of most meta buid. When you concentrate on dps is easier to get what is best. I have less dps with option B over option A, so i’ll use option A and there is no reason for option B. But for the guardian, option A give you more DPS, while option B give you more good support for you team.
Whatch out because there is good support and bad support in PvE. Healing is usually a bad support. Its nice to have it, but if you can replace that with some DPS or other support, its usually better. But the guardian can bring a lot of good PvE support. Whatever your choice in term of trait, you want full beserker gear (since support come from trait and not gear).
A full DPS build for a guardian could be something like 6/6/2/0/0 or 4/5/0/0/5 the first give you more average DPS, but the second have more potentiel damage with trait like 20% dmg with Aegis and 1% dmg for each boons. But 4/5/0/0/5 can also be a more supporting build if you switch 2 trait in virtue for master of consecration and absolute resolution for more party condi removal and more reflect. You can also put 2 pts in honor to get less cooldown on your shout so you can use retreat more often to put aegis on your team. The best support from guardian (that every pve guardian should use) is F1 blind spamming. 3 pts in Radiance and you are good to go, if you add to that Blind Exposure, that’s even better.
That’s where you want to get your support. You can get a full support guardian with a 2/5/0/2/5 build and still have a good amount of DPS. You will keep your party clear of condition, you will have a lot of blind, aegis and reflect and you will still have better DPS than most guardian. And don’t be afraid by the low amount of HP you will have, with all the dmg mitigation you, you will feel like you dying even less than with a tanky/support build. And that is only for a GS + S/F guardian. If you go hammer instead, you will be able to give your party almost perma protection which is one of the most powerful support boons you can imagine.
Thank you very much for responses!
I’ve changed my mind and now i see the DPS/Support guardian a very good choice. I’ll try the 4/5/0/0/5 build as it seems best for my playstyle.
Much appreciated to all of who took time to answer
OP, if u really want to go support, u can even go clerics, just go 6 in virtues and 6 in honor, u should be good. Heck I was rolling TapDatMouse WvW build in dungeons and was wondering why my build does 0 dmg, it’s ok I guess every build works, meta means efficiency, If you don’t want to roll with it now, u will curse yourself later for spending unnecessary gold on unnecessary gear. My 2 cents.

That’s a bit late for that dude. 2 days ago the OP said that he understand what the meta bring and will use it. No need for sarcasm lol.

No sarcasm, maybe just late with the post. Glad OP got his answer on this thread.
Something I like about the Silverwastes is that it really encourages build diversity (imo). Too bad dungeons can’t be more like that.
@OP: Tanks/bunkers and healers/supports are more welcome in WvW and PvP. PvE is mostly just a DPS fest, stat-wise anyway.
Glad the op took the right way before the trolls and the inexperienced players jumped on the thread.
A couple of months ago I started running dungeons. This is what I used. Can use either a hammer or GS. I prefer the GS for the might and it having no light field.
I usually run GS + sc/foc. The shield on foc is very handy and at times you can pull back and wait for cd to come back up while maintaining decent damage.
Damage was pretty good and it was very survivable. Basically, the build takes advantage of all the straight up plus %damage multipliers and has built in might stacking. Obviously, as you improve you can swap in a couple more pieces of zerker. You can even dump some points out of honor as you improve. This build does decent damage and allows you to make mistakes as you learn the monster’s various signs.
