Maybe you’re thinking of the greatsword’s leap? The patch essentially makes it so that there’s almost no more vertical teleporting anymore. Don’t know anything about targeting (perhaps post the source?).
The mobility changes seem more like much bigger hits to thieves and mesmers than guardians.
Nope before we could intervention out of range enemy AND use that to move fast without engage in combat, now seems wont work anymore… Can’t even count the time i faked a falling to teleport back after :P
So with the patch if i teleport out of range it dont work and if im in range i will be stucked in combat

So now that the leaked patch state that the teleports will work only with a target in range, does our ooc already lacking mobility go kitten? Opinion?
Sounds like how it works now is not intended. I’m sort of neutral on such a change; on one hand I hate wasting my teleports when they aren’t in range. ON the other, it’s what separates players that know their tools and those that don’t. Dumbing down.
Hard change. And not a good change in my opinion. If they really do this, i will stop playing :/

Kinda agree with you. But the tools we have now and especially after this teleport patch may have to be addressed.
Im not talking about the vertical teleporting (though that will hurt too) but more the loss of being able to close the gap (or open the gap via critters/npc’s etc in www) with sword 2 and JI.
Most melee classes/specs have ways too open/close the gaps and soft CC to keep on target. As a guard we dont really have that many tools and if the tools we have are getting changed we might need compensation.
Could be in the form of more range on sword 2 or some form of soft CC, but lets see what this will bring first.
The changes will certainly hit thieves and mesmers the most, but it will hit guardians too on general map mobility and engaging. We don’t rely on ports to survive though, so it’s easier to work around.
People have mentioned that Flashing Blade could work like a reverse Phase Retreat. That would help quite a bit. Without a target it moves 600 in the direction you’re facing, and with a target it won’t port unless in range.
Maybe they could take this opportunity to gives us a 25% movement speed trait.

But im comming at this with www roaming in mind so I might be biased
And i know they dont balance based on www but solely with pvp in mind or so i heard.
But even in pvp were conquest is the goal, dont you think this will have implications on survival?
If we take a look at other classes, most have gap opener’s/closer’s that dont require a target. Ground targeted teleport’s, leaps, rtl, wurm etc. The vertical port will affect some of those but they can all still be used defensively.
We have 1 leap on GS and just wondering if thats enough.
I dont think it will matter that much in pvp but in wvw it will kill our only escape mechanism. JI saved me lots of times when 4,5 ppl wanted to gank me -> just quick find some critter or enemy far away to escape with a 50% chance of probability to actually escape. I dont know who gave you that idea that we need to be in range, are you planning to destroy Guardians or what is the purpose of it Anet? Did you even play with Guardian at all?
Don’t you know that we dont have any passive movement skills, our 3 skills that give us swiftness are 3# staff, retreat and save yourself and they are pretty useless if you dont use shout build, so our escape mechanism will be brought down to 0. Thank you very much for this change I will farm my tomes to change to Revenant and Engineer in HoT.
Those who think Guardians are in good place, yes they are, first in the trash can.
edit. They could compensate us with GS leap 2000 range and mighty blow 1600 range. That should do it.

Ye ground targeted teleport’s, Leap’s, rtl etc are gonna be much better mobility wise after patch. Already moved all trinkets to my thief unequipped infil sig (which is the only thing thats gonna get hit for thiefs besides the vertical porting) and testing shadow trap for funz now
I like to roam on guard with sw/f + hammer and cant really imagine it working very well after patch when both sword 2 and JI are changed. We will see

Also, I’ve been considering switch my main to thief. If this change goes live, it will be the tipping point for me. Thieves have their own issues right now, but I don’t think anything is more frustrating that everyone simply running away from you.
Someone are already saying its confirmed AND already implemented in the chinese client… So bye bye goes to: pve skipping, wvw escaping, pvp catching… Obviuosly they didnt thougt about guardian… So gg guardian in every game mode? Maybe we can play tower defense -.- .. Lets hope they will give us something in return!
I don’t think it would hurt spvp that much but it will put a dent in pve/wvw mobility.
Well as per google translate all teleport skills appear to have a change of, “This ability when unable to find a valid path between the target will no longer start.” with a few variations.

According to that, it seems more likely it just means if you try to use a teleport and it fails somehow, it won’t go on CD., but another person on Reddit translated it to:
Guardian: Flashing Blade, Judges Intervention and Merciful Intervention will no longer teleport without line of sight.
So it just means we can’t pop in out of nowhere on Clocktower/Keep point anymore. Hopefully them touch this also means fixing the random rubberbanding and random fails when you teleport up ramps using JI.

as someone who mains sword medi guardian at top level pvp I can pretty much gurantee this will completely OBLITERATE this weapon set. Like literally unusable. I want to talk to a freaking anet dev before they do something like this because this is just making a rarely used weapon COMPLETLEY UNVIABLE and theres NO POINT in doing it. LIKE IM SERIOUSLY kittenG kittenED OFF.

Not being able to teleport out of range will effect us the most. I’ve had several clutch plays where I targeted out of range to peel off. I don’t know why Guardians, PvP and WvW both, aren’t fighting against this particular change.

yeah you needed a target but they didnt have to be in range. So you could tele half way to target using sword the way it currently stands or stood. Now that no longer is an option. And yes, I have used it for escape by targeting NPC’s, other players, animals and so on. The targeting system has a much longer range than the tele’s so you used to be able to use it to to get out of dodge quick.
I might add it also kills the guardian gap closer when something else is trying to run away form you. The sword+ji gap closer will feel this hard.

I’ve seem these changes made in other games as well; They aren’t based on a desire to screw certain classes over (they do though). They are made because of unintended use of the tools. From that POV, it’s sensible. Warping to a target doesn’t make sense if you can’t reach it with the tool range.
Frankly, I think some compensation for this change is required as they have been ingame in this form for long enough to significantly affect how people play.
If they freaking change this then we’r egoing to need some of the biggest kittening buffs they’ve given any class in the game. I’m talking warrior-stance/hammer buffs that made hambow OP for a freaking year buffs. Because they are NERFING THE CRAP out of guardians with this change. Like this is FREAKING ABSOLUTELY INSANE. ITS LIKE ALL THEY WANT IS FOR EVERYONE TO ROLL CELE ENGI ELE WARR WHICH DONT REQUIRE TELEPORTS. IM SO FREAKING kittenED OFF.

I’d uninstall before ever playing a warrior.
This will be a crying shame.
Having teleports that actually teleport was one of the few things that made the class still fun to play when the odds continue to stack against it.
I’m not even talking about using it as an escape mechanism, but simply as one of the few tools for mobility we had when moving from A->B and getting TO the action, let alone away from it. A mediguard chaining all his teleports and leaps could just about keep up with other classes.
Regardless of how it was originally intended, teleporting across elevations has become a class mechanic.
I’ve been playing a medi-burst guard for years, even before they were cool – but I’ll have a really hard time finding any enjoyment in it if these patch notes play anything like they sound. ( if you’ll excuse my mixed metaphors )
Also… 1 stack of stability every 3 secs for Tomes… that’ll work really well in WvW…

^ I’ve played medi guard for so long, with more than 5.5k+ hours on guard, this will destroy the fluid feel of the weapon set and pretty much its usefulness. Flashing Blade’s range is pretty short as it is. If we’re not able to use it when out of range, its pretty worthless unless you’re facing other people who want to be in your face. Though a single disengage from a mesmer warrior, and engi and you won’t be able to close that gap at all and will pretty much get kited to oblivion even more so. I really hope they change their mind about using teleport abilities only when in range because this is going to trash Sword Guardian users hard.

For me, it will hit my three classes. My Guard will be unavailable to play in WvW.
Even in PvP it will hurt. And wtf why you can’t teleport without being in line of side. I mean its a kitten teleport!!!!! TELEPORT
So, what will you play then To make damage. It’s not just our only mobility build, it’s the only available dps burst build. Why changing a running system. Nobody was crying about those teleports.

Maybe quit the game if we don’t get a 1000-1200 leap on gs or ground target skill like warrior, ranger, ele, thief, necro, mesmer, engi. Oh? All have those mobility skill? Ah thx ANet. Why not replace Guard with Revenant and Delete Guardian from the game?
We need to do a petition or something like that.

Guys I know why they are nerfing the hell out of us, they are giving us new weapon specialization. We will use Pistol.
Pistol:
Autoattack: Pistol slam – melee attack that taunts target to attack you.
2# Party time : shoot fireworks into air, all enemies target you.
3# Fake death : you simulate downed state and you are invulnerable to attacks for 3 sec while wearing chicken outfit.
4# Far cry : you fear your enemies by your crying skills. More enemies you fear more chicken critters spawn.
5# Kamikazee stylee : Use Pistol to headshot yourself and healing all allies by 30% of your hp. Summons Grand Chicken Godfather at your dying spot.

I often wonder if they ever think about guardian at all anymore.
teleport still works, just not if there is some obstacle between you and your target – so you do not get accidentaly stuck in a texture.

So for clarity’s sake (and hopefully hearing people who are currently in-game, unlike myself) if you use Flashing Blade or Judge’s Intervention on a target who you have a clear path to, but who are just outside of range, what happens?
- Skill gives “out of range” message, refuses to be used?
- Skill goes on cooldown and you don’t move at all?
- You teleport the maximum range towards them?
- Something else?
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

Can someone test if teleporting up onto wvw supply depot archways still works or through the clock tower floor?
And does JI or Flashing Blade still avoid fall damage?

It won’t I don’t think. From minimal testing on classes teleports don’t work to anywhere you might have to normally jump to get to.
No idea about falling damage.

Yes. If timed right and you have line of sight to the target, it works as it did before.

Yeah, from all the talk had not a whole lot changed. I thought anet was supposed to fix vertical ports and from the looks buffed them instead. Maybe it was just a bunch of misinformation hyping everyone up.

This is like most other threads that pop up these days. Sure i agree if the changes all you guys speculated happened, then i would be mad as hell.
But people always jump straight to conclusions and get angry about something they haven’t even tested yet.

I’ve seen people teleport up the platforms at the Keep point in Forest by hugging the wall though I haven’t tried it myself. That’s a pretty big buff imo.
