PvP guardian. Offensive build?
This is the typical guardian med build atm.

Err no it’s not. In fact I’ve never even seen that before.
Greatsword is the worst Guardian weapon by far, much too inaccurate for tPvP. I would never recommend to make a build just to play against bad players, you’ll just lose to decent/good players more easily.
To OP:
If you’re just starting to learn a burst build I recommend this:

Which can be improved later by swapping out the 1h sword for a mace and
This:

For a tough DPS build which not only doesn’t go down easily but can deal with a lot of roamers and point defenders. Also extremely good at backpoint/teamfights.
10/5/30/5/20 a large percentage of med guard uses it now. It’s gives you more sustain then the 0/30/30/5/5. It also more useful for team play because of the ability to drop a med for a Concretion, and the extra condition removal from AR. You don’t have to use GS, I just put it there as a filler.
I’m surprised you haven’t seen this build, it’s quite popular.

Thanks jax those builds look very effective. And Harbringer, that looks like a good build, i’ll try it one day, but the ones jax linked seem to make the most sense. Anyone else have a build to recomend? The build I tried for lulz is 20/25/0/25/0. Pretty fun for gibbing people in hotjoins haha. Not to bad on dueling servers either.
edit: I’ll just wait and see what the community thinks about these builds :p

But you can’t assault sidepoint and you’ll lose to a roamer ….. so why would you run it?
PS. I literally try every build out that’s put to me, which I’m doing now, because there have been a few times where there have been results theorycrafting didn’t agree with (ie mace damage output). But GS is still an awful choice regardless.
Hey jax, on the build that you recomend swapping the sword to mace, how do you deal with ranged classes that kite when you use the mace?

It does all those things fine. Give it a shot, and see if you like it. Like I said it’s quite strange you never seen it before. It’s a popular build this meta, it’s not something I just made up on the fly.

Well 100% can’t deal with spirit ranger, Guardian or engi on sidepoint because you’re running GS. Unless they deliberately don’t dodge WW or ZD. But I’m trying it now.

Like I said in an earlier post that GS was a filler. I personally use hammer with scepter/focus and take Binding Jeopardy when I run it.

Sorry I don’t see it, I agree with your changes over the original build but Radiant Power > Fiery Wrath already and 15% crit chance > 100 power. The only advantage you gain is the 3 condi clear which I don’t think is that important with a burst build (while you have CoP). The runes and sigils are already optional, except in certain matchups (ie. Ranger, backpoint mes).
I did the maths too and the damage is much lower, the DPS high is lower than the 303055’s DPS low.
And a 530305 DPS build has more condi clear/survivability/DPS than that build too, it has less burst though.
I forgot to add the 303055 has significantly higher burst and accuracy of burst too.
Of course a 0/30/30/5/5 is going to have higher dps ouput, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. The reason why people are running 10/5/30/5/20 because it gives you more sustain then the standard med builds. You have to remember AR also buffs the passive affect on Virtue of Resolve, and factor in Retaliation from your Virtues.

Against what though?
There’s no practical application? You lose against a lot of build you would’ve won against (still assuming you’re using good weapons). Backpoint Mesmer you now lose to, Ranger you can’t beat now, Guardian burst will 1 shot you, AH DPS will outsustain you.
You can’t just make a build to make a build, what are you doing that’s different? The only advantage you’d have would be against a Necro with full LF.

If there was no practical application to the build people wouldn’t be running it, and all those counters you mentioned I never have a problem with. Mesmers will go down to any type of med build for the most part. Rangers are the same way. I have yet to have a Guardian one shot me, but I’m sure that’s just a hyperbole on your part. And an AH will not out sustain you because AH isn’t optimal for 1v1.
Just because a new med build comes along that you don’t agree with, doesn’t mean it’s bad or worse then what came before. If it was truly a bad build or not on par with the other builds, nobody would run it, it’s simple as that. Why would I or any other Guard want to run a bad build? However it’s been tested and people have been using it. It works.

Who though? none of these reasons are actually reasonable and Guards can one shot if they’re running the right weapons.
I think people are just running it because they’re too lazy to explore other options, this isn’t a new build it’s from 2012…

^ Seconded on this. Itty Bitty Bunker has a nice write-up on the build:

@ Jax: I know Itty Bitty’s been running this build in high end tournies for quite a while, so it’s nothing new.
Silven you don’t play much recently from what I’ve noticed and I know Heaven has been going hardcore for forever. Just saying I’m thinking he knows more than you now.
Sharks With Lazers [PEW]
I actually have a lot of fun using your ZD build but that is out in WvW I guess so doesn’t count.
Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)
About Greatsword… I know it’s a one trick pony, but I have fun chaining Binding Blade and Judge’s intervention… what do you think, is it a good idea?
because he doesn’t know it himself

There’s nothing wrong with the GS, but it does have it’s faults. Just like any other weapon. It’s very predictable for the most part. However the biggest thing that hurts it is retaliation. If you’re in a group fight, and some one on the opposing team pops a group wide retaliation buff. Then you use WW, you’re going to be in a world of hurt.
If you want to run GS go ahead, it’s far from being a bad weapon.

Yea, GS isn’t the most diverse weapon, but it’s a great weapon for sPvP simply because of the cleave damage. This makes it amazing when enemy teams are trying to revive downed players. One of the best roles a DPS Guard can play in a teamfight is putting up cleave pressure to prevent rezes.
Also, it’s the best burst weapon available, so yea, it’s a good idea. Just be careful with when you use Blinding Blade since it’s easily dodged when you try to get someone at a long distance.
I think a lot of this debate comes down to playstyle. While the build I use can be effective in a number of 1v1’s, as Silven notes it won’t win them all. Thankfully this is a team game. This is first and foremost a teamfight build, meant to get efficiently from fight to fight, relieve the bunker a little, and put out pressure. When I started playing dps guard I actually played with Silven’s meditation builds and really enjoyed them. The choices I made in what I run now are a result of my team’s playstyle and my own.
Try out all the different builds, guardians have a lot of flexibility in their builds, allowing you to choose one that fits your playstyle and is effective.
