Putting aside all of this Dragonhunter stuff (reserving my opinion about it until we get more information), what kind of spec would you guys like to see for guardian? Feel free to ignore things the devs had to take into consideration (what the profession is lacking, what other people want). Go crazy with your ideas!

Paragon.

Spear-using ranged sustained DPS and support, using burning attacks and chants (shouts that pulse) and refrains (effects that trigger when a boon ends/is removed) to help the party from back/middle line.

I realize it takes a genius like myself to realize something like this, but you could have a Spear work on land with a different set of skills than the water ones on the same class.

Pretty much anything that isn’t a complete rehash of an existing class. I’d have loved to see something focused on CC. Or maybe a condition build that focused around the use of burning and torment. I feel like there’s a huge missed opportunity in not giving guardians access to torment. The idea of a guardian getting into someone’s mind and inflicting torment by having them contemplate their wrongdoings sounds really cool, and way more original and unique than this Dragonhunter crap.

Crusader

polearm wielder (halberds/spears), which use Glyphs to empower their Symbols in a new way, that is able to summon Light Elementals and basically works similar to Mystic Knights of Dragons Dogma (maybe also together with some kind of mixed in magic archer gameplay for some ranged skills, cause all classes need so,me melee as like ranged skills by givign them also SHORTBOWS >.<) with adding a new Virtue – Faith, also to perform under the virtue of faith powerful Sky Jumps – so a kind of gameplay that you would normally expect under a Dragoon, so Crusaders would be basically GW2’s own version of unique dragoons without having that ridiculous stupid forced upon all of us dragon hunt reference

^^

I like the Dragonhunter. Longbow seems neat, I dig the refreshed Virtues.

I would have rather seen Mantras as the ‘new’ utility than traps. Seems to fit the theme of ranged support. I could totally see an AoE burning mantra and an AoE immob fitting well with the profession.

Was watching the video for the bow skills. There’s plainly a wildstar-esque tether effect in there (aka a ranged version of the hammers ring of stay put). That’s gonna make splatting people with traps easy…

Something like:

Sanctifier:
Weapon: Longbow, skills: Mantra’s.

F1 Sets all enemies near the target on fire while also removing up to 5 boons from the target.
F2 Converts conditions from allies into boons. (1200 range up to 5)
F3 Gives allies protection and swiftness while slowing and weakening the target enemy. (1200 range, up to 5 allies)

Longbow 1: Simply fires a high velocity arrow that pierces till it hits your target and removes a boon.
Longbow 2: Fires a piercing arrow that slows and burns enemies.
Longbow 3: Fires a slow arcing arrow at target area that immobilizes if it hits and then creates a symbol that grants your allies might.
Longbow 4: Creates a shock wave at your location that knocks down enemies and cures conditions from you and your allies.
Longbow 5, chain 1: Meditate for 2 seconds to prepare for a powerful shot.
Longbow 5, chain 2: Instantly shoot a powerful arrow of light at your enemy that stuns them and dazes all nearby enemies. Deals less damage for each boon on your enemy and each condition on you.

Skills:
Mantra of Tranquility (Heal): Meditate, charging a spell that heals more if you don’t suffer from a condition and removes a condition afterwards.
Mantra of Denial (Utility): Meditate, charging a spell that removes up to 3 boons from your enemy and up to 3 conditions from nearby allies.
Mantra of Misdirection. (Utility): Meditate, charging a spell that teleports your enemy 300 range closer to you and applies confusion. (1500 range)
Mantra of Retaliation. (Elite): Meditate, charging a spell that gives 3 seconds of high damage retaliation to up to 5 allies.

I’m not quite convinced my f1 skills are that good, but overall i think it would be quite interesting and possibly entertaining to have a weapon set based more on boon/condi removal and pursuit. It’s still quite lacking in the condition damage department though.

Meditations…uhm…Mantras…idk how in the world that made it over their heads. Traps are a REAL stretch for the ‘Virtuous’ Guardian, imo. Sure Guardians are missing a solid condi build. Mantras are ranged and would allow for condi burst(or otherwise)+time to setup again even (given Guardians excellent active defenses). They could then be traited for ally support as well.

Mantra of Domination: Your presence confuses enemies on the battlefield.
Confusion x2 (4 sec)
3 charges
Rng:1200

GM Trait. Battle prowess: Your presence inspires your allies. Your mantras have added effects and their cooldowns are reduced.
Mantra of Domination grants Retaliation to allies near your target.
Etc.
Etc
Etc.
Your Mantras recharge 20% faster.

Meh. I know it’s not perfect, but I’ve had a long day and you get the idea.

Also, this specs’ name is Dragoon (long ranged infantry support).

This ^ so so much.

The class could also really use the CC.

All the teleports & swiftness the class has is fine but it don’t mean crap if you can’t stay on a target.
Thats where CC and torment come in. You can stay on them a bit longer and when they do kite they take some damage by moving around.

oops didn’t read the thread all the way. /cptnobvious O.o
the thing about the DH utilities was to bring in a solid condi build for guardian though while still using an existing skill type (they said this was for the hopes of future rune/sigil iterations) so we have to keep that in mind with these. looks like we’re kind of on the same page, though I really think only the Traps need changed. LB+Virtues are fine, imo.

As for things I think would have made more sense then traps.

Mantras (Could have been offensive, defensive or CC oriented)

Banners (immobile area buff that can be activated to grant the guard an active effect)

Stances (gain special effects for a short time, could be traited to give allies effects while in a stance)

Cantrips (Theme them around different aspects of virtues)

Glyphs (could have been offensive, defensive or granted CC.

Spectral skills (tap into the power of your spirit to do special effects like pull, cripple, Stuns etc…)

Achron

Ok we keep the bow, even the skills sound fine. I admit I likethe virtues change, would only change the spear for a flaming arrow to fit the theme.

NO TRAPS instead of them the Achron specializes in Spirit Weapons that help him keep his enemies at bay, while he deals damage and supports his teammates.

Trait line Specialization may include Spirit Weapons siphoning health from enemies, Increased Damage, Spirit Weapon Holy Explosion when they are destroyed and, in the Grand Master Traits, the abilyty to weild any Spirit Weapon you have summoned for a short period of time. Each weapon has a new set of skills much like the conjured weapons from elementalists.

Focuses on support, CC, and MOBILITY. Could be more condi based but we would be seeing a lot more of those blue wings due to the Arch Angels being able to soar above the ground to given locations for healing and leaving a burning trail of healing and conditions in their wake.
