I hate to point it out, but this question tends to lead to a popularity contest. I don’t just mean here, in the GW2 Forums, but in general life.
Honestly, I don’t see a point in asking. Everyone has different criteria, and that changes their answer. If everyone states what their criteria is along with their answer, it would at least be worth reading the responses.

As for my answer, I honestly have none. I just meet a lot of random people.

I think it would be more server and guild based. I don’t think there is a “best”, but more of who is more known for their Guardian play. I know amongst my guild [ALL], I am regarded as one of the top Guardians, in Yaks Bend, one of the most famous Guardians in my other guild [YUM] is Famme (the guy who made divinitysreach.com). When it comes to SPvP, though, my friend Laegacy is sooooo much better than I ever have been at playing offensive DPS Guard, but I can bunker against 3-4 ppl, unless they’re a bunch of necros or engis, then I have problems. There’s those that are known for WvW roaming, like Raylze from [BLNT], he’s pretty decent from what I’ve seen. I think another friend of my Xasten Holyseeker has one of the highest WvW ranks BEFORE the 4/15 patch (I do believe he was over the 1K rank). Or Saeryn Azrael, who came up with a lot of the Guardian builds our guild uses for raiding. To many variables to narrow it down, and “best” is relative.

XD!! I’d have to vote nhymx, and we’ll, the reason I like there’s forums is because nobody comes to a final decision and it does cause debate.

Best is subjective and no one will ever agree. Those are just the facts.

There are, however, several forum Guardian players who try and help the community by offering builds or discussions. There are a few of those who I’d wager are in the top tier of players. Then there are a few whom I’d wager are higher yet in skill that could probably play the class butt naked and still win or live to tell the tale.

ON topic:

Its really hard to have a best player in this game, on gw1 we could have GvG to define and see who was the best of the best, here since builds are copy paste of each other and blob game play there isnt the best player, well pvp isnt that balanced itself so still hard to know and that would be the same to say who is the best player in TA or RA wich is a litle bit nosense.
Other thing is some one on T1 might change is build to similiar T5 player and vice versa both have the same style of playing, both are effective.

IMO no there are no best players in this game.

Umm, sorry, but no, Kensuda is the main bunker guardian for team Good Fights [GF], one of, if not THE top North American PvP teams. When you get to PvP at that level, you can’t have any dead weight, if you have 4 great players, and the other team has 5, you are going to lose. Also, Kensuda plays bunker guard, which is arguably one of the highest pressure roles in the game, forcing him to sometimes survive against several opponents with the entire match hinging on his ability to do so.

The problem with this question, however, is twofold. Not only is it entirely subjective, but it’s also very ambiguous, when you ask who is the “best”, do you mean most skilled? because then someone like Kensuda would be your man, or do you mean most knowledgeable? then there may be other players active on the forums who can offer the best advice and help. I agree a 100% with all of this, I didn’t realise it was even GF when I watched the video, I have heard of them before, and you are right about dead weight, so it is clear he is pretty good, the best, debatable, but it’s a question that’s never gonna be answered, this forum was made to troll tbh with you, idk why :L, but I am enjoying the input from people now

Seriously though, there is no “best”. There are a lot of talented Guards out there that play different aspect of the game. Ken, Obal, Brutaly, Silven, Amins, and the list goes on. However that’s the nice thing about the Guardian community, everyone is extremely helpful, and tries their best to help others out.

This is easily the top section when you compare it to the other professions’ subforms.

It’s the kind of thing where everyone will each have their own opinion on it, and none are right or wrong.

As another note, I wouldn’t consider bunker Guardian the hardest role to play on a team, not even close. It does require good combat awareness and good knowledge of when and how to use your cooldowns, but in terms of technical skill, there are other roles that require much more than bunker Guardian (I consider playing Thief properly the highest skillcap in the game, in terms of technical ability, positioning, and map awareness). To be honest, I’m getting old, so bunker Guard is more my speed.

Was wondering if you’d make an appearance xD! And as I mentioned before this topic was kind of made to troll, but I ended up enjoying the discussion, I did intend to delete it originally, also, I agree bunker guards aren’t the most technical in the game, but I wouldn’t consider thief to be the highest skill cap, also map awareness falls under the player not the profession, all professions need to be just a map aware as the last, but then it’s the same story here as the last, there’s no way to gauge what is the highest skill cap proffesion,some players pick up some profession quicker then they do others, so again it’s an impossible, I could argue ele has the highest skill cap because it just never clicked with me like guardians/engineers etc do, everything comes down to personal preference here

I’m surprised how little people mention Siege Razor. I guess people don’t WWW or fight him. I mean the guy uses binding blades on people who are walls and pulls them down. Why can’t our binding blades do that!?!

I was going to say Siegerazor, but someone beat me to it.

I have a hard time choosing bests in this game because of how low the skill ceiling is compared to other, more aggressively competitive games. I guess anyone with full-time roster spot in a top (or former top) WvW/GvG guild would make my list, though. Or anyone with full membership status in RIOT.

I’m not sure what to think of top s/tPvP players since I’m under the impression that top play is basically a bunker Guardian (hard to play?) and then a few high-mobility players for circle-capping. Maybe some kind of bunker Engi for holding a second point. Probably running a condi/toughness build of some sort. (I know almost nothing about tPvP.)

Anyway, there are obviously outstanding Guardian players in all aspects of the game. There are guys/girls who are great at sPvP and tPvP (whether as bunkers or roamers), there are those who are awesome at GvG, some who are great at havoc play. Some who are great at PvE, I suppose? So it’s pretty hard to say who’s the “best” without a category system. And even then… that’d be like 3-5 categories per game type.

Well they can, provided the enemy is standing on the lip of the wall and you’re standing an asura length or two back from the foot of the wall, so the blades don’t get obstructed. Provided the blades land you can pull them off even if they move back ( as long as they’re still in range ). I’ve killed many an unsuspecting foe that way ;-)

If you stand a ways back from the fort and target someone who’s foolishly close to the edge you can also BB+JI to them to catch them off-guard, although judging the distance might take practise.

I wish one of our new grandmaster traits gave us the siegerazer version though – I’ve had a blade pull send me flying 100 meters straight up into their air and landing back down on the wall in a bloody pulp

obal is a very skilled guardian and very helpful to the community but he’s certainly not the best guardian out there. one of the best, that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t say that he’s “head and shoulders above every other PvE guardian”…

I didn’t honestly think the skill ceiling for PvE was that high. Is there an empirical way to measure PvE skill besides dungeon clear times?

Not to knock Obal or anything, I just don’t feel that the PvE content in this game is as difficult as it could have been. I’ve seen him play, and he’s certainly talented.
