Hey guys, I know recently Ive been kinda slow to respond, distracted in-game, and rather inconsistent.

This past week someone very very close to me suffered a massive heart attack. This weekend we had to let her go.

… It was the hardest thing I ever had to witness. Especially rough since my mother had suffered an aneurysm a few years back and had to go to the same ER (She survived, amazingly. It was painful and took a lot of surgery and rehab but thank god shes recovered nearly fully) . It was like a macabre deja-vu except with the opposite outcome from the first time.

It was the first time something so devastating hit so close to home. Im very sorry if I rekindled any bad memories. Right now we’re scrambling to put funds together and sort everything out. As she was a rather young mother; this was so sudden, unexpected, and unspeakably painful that right now were just trying to make sense of the emotional/logistical chaos.

So if Im off GW for a little while or don’t respond in-game/random AFK thats why. I personally don’t believe in oranized religion, but if you’re the praying-type then your prayers would be well-recieved. (I know theres a greater power out there, but honestly I just believe in doing the right thing and not being a hypocrite.. Everything else is noise)

Edit: You guys are in-freakin’-credible. I never imagined I’d ever become so invested in a forum community so much to go on to write guides (which I’ve never done anything close to before) and give tips and help.. But I really couldn’t have expected so much feedback and support returned tenfold. The responses in mail and in this thread brought embarrassing man-tears to my eyes.

This gets repeated often, but we really do have one of the best, most communal forums on this site. From the the All-Mesmer meets, to the ridiculously overdramatic names we throw on our builds, the [OMFG] Guild and the amount of respect we all show eachother… most days.

(Got infracted for raising money and mods deleted my ENTIERE thank you edit. -_- Yet, they won’t sticky OMFG)

Chaos. Bro, you’re a sweet guy to even feel bad and apologize to US about what came to you. I have never lost anybody I was close to. I couldn’t try to empathize with you. But I know I can say that you should feel no responsibility to us, not enough to feel bad about taking your time to grieve. Take your time, when you come back we’ll welcome you with open arms.
P.S. I will be home in 2 hours. I wouldn’t mind giving your buddy 5g or so. Just an idea but, you should list the names of the people who gave him gold in the note containing his money, maybe values they gave too. My condolences. Sorry for your loss, Chaos.

Last week, one of the people where I work – whom has literally been there as long as the building we work in – died due to falling off a ladder and having a heart attack. I know exactly what you are going through. Take as much time as you need. We’ll be here when you get back.

Not to say that real life always has to come first, that is a choice you have, however in this case, bro please don’t let yourself dwell over the fact that you can’t attend to our dumb questions that can be answered by the next guy, would it be answered at well? Probably not but that isn’t the point bro. Do yo do kitten. We love you. You got support from us too.

Again, I gotta say.. Thank you so much everyone. The letters/donations and support you guys have given me is just.. well, its phenomenal. More salty man-tears are leaking as I write this.. But I never expected such an overwhelming show of compassion. No other videogame community has ever been as close&meaningful to me as yall.

Its been so kitten hard guys, I try to keep myself upbeat and strong for everyone elses sake, Ive been saying comforting words and giving all the support I could but sometimes people forget how much this loss affects me too…

I didnt expect this thread to be so encouraging/uplifting and know that Ill find some way to give back to yall. If anyone ever wants a portrait drawn of their character, a short story dedicated to their Mesmer or ever need any kind of advice for anything in game or IRL, Im there for you, for sure.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Obviously RL always comes first, so any time you need away from the game, forum or everything won’t be an issue. On the other hand if it’s something to keep yourself going with, then more power to you and keep going.

Are you still collecting donations?

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Oh no, I’m so sorry for you :/

I think you’re an amazing person, Chaos, and I’m sure many people share that oppinion.
Really, you love helping people out, and the way you say things... It just brings a smile on my face whenever I see your name next to a message!

If anything, we owe you, for being such a pleasant person to have around in this community, and we will really miss you while you’re taking time off :).

I’m sure I speak for the most of us when I say: Don’t worry about us though. We can continue mesmering without your awesomeness for a (short) while ;)

This thread deserves my first ever forum post (with the exception of signing up for OMFG). For a long time i have merely haunted the forums, absorbing much of the information posted without any return to the community it has created. OMFG and threads such as this have and will change that. I am very sorry for your loss and wish you and any of your friends and family affected my honest condolences and best wishes. Take care of yourselves and we (the community and the game) will be here to welcome your return when you are ready.
Take care bro

Just an quick update..

The funeral was yesterday, and this whole week has been an emotional roller coaster. I was reading this thread in the limo both to-and-from the ceremony to keep my spirits up.

I try to look at every unique experience, both good and kittenomething to learn from… This one has been a doozy. Being in the hospital when she took her last breathe was almost too much for me. I had to host the final prayer session because there wasn’t an available priest at the time (s’what happens when you live in the hood -_-), and I’m really starting to believe that I do have a way with words. I can’t even repeat what I was inspired to say it just.. came when needed and gave the comfort I’d hoped for.

If there’s any lesson to take from this, its that:

  • Emotions both good and bad are contagious. A simple smile can improve a total stranger’s mood, a negative message can cast a dour sensation over a group… Each and every one of us has the power to influence those around us, but we’re so often caught up in our own lives or stress that we don’t realize it.
  • Life is more than just living and dying. Its learning, growing, loving, and experiencing. Every choice we make is an expression of ourselves, and every mistake we make is something that can improve our character and build us if we take the time to reflect on it. We are made up of our connections to other people. That book you learned from was written by someone, your mannerisms and ideals were likely inspired by someone or something that means a lot to you. A parent’s ultimate victory is passing those life lessons – and in a sense passing the core of themselves – into their offspring.
  • The more you love something, the more you become attached to it. Physically or emotionally, ripping an attachment away is losing a part of yourself. It’ll always hurt.
  • We seem breathe heavy to regulate our emotions. I noticed a lot of people sighing or taking deep breathes – seems like there’s an interesting connection between breathe and stress, does anyone know more about this?
  • I really love using bullet points.

While I won’t decline any more donations I continue to pass the funds over to her grieving son. He was more amazed than I was at the amazing reception from you guys, and never in his life expected such support from his favorite game.

That joy, that gratitude, that feeling that “someone’s got my back,” is the reason why I play support. Both in-game and IRL.

I’ll be posting one more big thank you later, with a few very specific mentions. I just had to squeeze this in while I was at work cuz.. well.. I couldn’t help it. Ya’ll rock.

You have my deepest sympathies and best wishes. I think this thread is a poster-child for karma. Yours is the first screen name I think of when I think about the positive atmosphere and communal spirit that drew me towards the Mesmer sub-forum. Official game forums tend to be very negative, anger-filled places, and the presences that subdue that force are valued. You get back what you put in, and you’ve earned our support.

That’s the power of boon sharing!

Take care of yourself while you’re caring for others and we’ll be here to welcome you when you return.

Truly sorry for your loss.
The departure of someone we love, is never an easy thing to live with.
As long as we keep them in our hearts, we honor them in life, I’ve found.
Take all the time you need, and return once your spirits have returned.

I am also very sorry to hear about this personal loss you have to endure. My brother passed away about a year ago to bowel cancer and it was really rough. He was only 42.

Don’t be embarrassed by the man-tears. They say real men don’t cry, but I think the good ones do. The ones that don’t are probably psychopaths.
