Anything equal?
(In WvW.) When dead comes every time in seconds and no change to escape, it is “game over”. It would be better if no character could instakill. Some kind of difficulty level would be needed: those who want torture themselves would have possibility to keep the “game overs” but personally I like longer fights – and that I have time to do counterattacks.
What build would be good for longer fight? Or should I switch to guardian?
What builds specifically do you use?
For a short-term solution though, just try to remember that F4 will briefly counter everything. A free second or two of complete invuln can help you dodge a burst or get your bearings.
A standard 4, 4, 0, 0, 6 IP shatter burst with GS can drop a ton of damage in an instant. But in WvW its not considered the best for roaming, or rather it has its downsides.
I introduced a CS build recently that’ll unload a ton of damage, and is nasty vs thieves. Here’s an example.

Otherwise your problems sound more of a l2p issue. If you’re full glass and you dont see a thief coming, then yes you’re gonna get rekt. If a ranger with LB opens his pew pew on you and you don’t counter it somehow, of course you’re gonna have a bad day. There are numerous approach to combat vs these two opponents that’ll make things go in your favor. Some of these are tactical (such as using LoS), others are build related.
If you’re playing Power Shatter, as it sounds like you probably are, then you may want to start out with a more tanky version of a P-Shatter build, or a completely different build that is more survivable. Ross’ CS build is definitely a step in the right direction, but is still fairly glassy, so if you’re still having trouble, then try going with a Power PU, or for even more tankiness a Condie PU build.
They’re not optimal builds at the highest levels of play, but they are all viable builds that give you increasingly more survivability at the cost of direct/spike damage. Especially in 1v1s with most Thieves and Rangers a Condie PU build can really wreck them, and as you get better at playing a Mesmer in PvP you can re-roll to a more glassy but higher damage and thus more team-friendly build.
With Rangers you just need to dodge or interrupt some of the RF damage, and learn ways to close on them or avoid damage via LoS. You can teleport into them and/or use your GS iZerker to both damage and Cripple them, then open a can on them. The vast majority of LB Rangers are easy to beat for a Mesmer, almost regardless of build. The key is to not get caught with your pants down by that RF, the rest is pretty intuitive to deal with. Interrupt based build like Ross’, really do a number on them.
You could even go with something like this which was put up the other day

Ross, could you create a build editor link for that when you get a chance? For those of us who don’t have YouTube at work but are still bored?

It’s this build. You may have already seen it.
I’ve been running a condi spec of 0-4-4-0-6 with 1862 condi dmg+ (with nourishments) Runes of Perplexity and I find that to be a very damage heavy spec.
1862 condi damage will tear people up fast. In spvp I run the exact same spec but with runes of Undead and sigils of bursting. That puts me up around 1600 condi in spvp.
Dat Torment trait……………. fixed so much of what was wrong with condi mesmer.

Oh, I did see that. You were talking about WVW though so I thought you had one modified for WVW. My bad. +1 for responding to me though. I love the Mesmer community!

I took it into WvW for a little bit. I have centaur runes on my assassins armor so I just kept those (though air would have been nice. its just costly to swap around). I didnt upgrade my sigils though if I were serious I would have liked to. I think I run battle on each set and have a cruelty sigil on one of the swords.
I played the same way I might in PvP, kiting and evasion/shutting out attacks while my phantasms do their job. I could counter a number of opponents at once like this, but when more and more adds came in there wasnt anything I could do vs 5 guys covering the field. I’d probably be more than happy running it with a partner or group.
