Q:
Arcane Thievery/Null Field
A:
I’d recommend using Null Field because Arcane Thievery seems to randomly not work most the time. Also, the transferred conditions would use your own condition damage stat if you decided to use it.
You didn’t mention mantra of resolve, but I would personally use that skill over both null field and arcane thievery for basic condition removal.
I agree with mantra of resolve. If you’re set on either null field or arcane thievery, I’d pick null field. Arcane thievery misses for the dumbest reasons — blinds, blocks, invulns, dodges, slight incline in terrain, not in field of view, etc.
If you don’t shatter that much and if your illusions don’t die that quickly, disenchanter is also a decent option.
Nullfield on top of a stomp target usually guarantees the kill – I’d choose that. Its got more use to it than just condi removal and its an AoE effect.
Thank you all for the answers, helped me a lot and I might try Mantra of Resolve as well.
If you’re in a situation that allows pDisenchanter to survive at all, it’s by far the strongest condition removal/boon strip we have. That’s a big if, but it’s something you should always keep in mind.
I guess I’ll be the one advocate for arcane thievery.
I used to only use null field but have switched for a few reasons.
1. I don’t like how it pulses, it takes longer to get multiple conditions off of me, and I have to stand in the aoe
2. Related to #1, but I am constantly moving and kiting during fights. AT allows me to be on the move while shedding conditions.
3. Boon steal – always fun to take away an opponents boons
With far reaching manipulations the range is increased to 1200 making it a bit easier to activate, and you can also use it on AI (pets, minions, clones) meaning you can shed conditions even if an opponent has a counter for it up.
However, like others have said, it does have its downsides. It will occasionally miss due to a couple of reasons which can be frustrating at times, but I don’t run into this problem too often as long as I am aware of which boons my target has up and how far away they are.
I haven’t thoroughly tried out Mantra of Resolve though, so I don’t really have a comment on it.
From a strictly condition-removal perspective, I’d advise Null Field. It’s on a lower cooldown, works for the entire team, and provides an Ethereal Combo Field for further defense, it also rips boons from any opponent in the circle. Null is also more reliable because Arcane can be blocked/blinded/invuln’d/Line of Sighted. While Thievery does remove 3 condis at once, Null removes 6 overtime.
I tend to grab Thievery as long as I have some other form of removal, like Mender’s Purity, Lyssa Runes, or certain sigils. And the last time I tested it, it used the opponent’s own condition damage against them as if they had cast the ability on themselves.

Null Field will be more helpful and reliable in team settings.
The only time I’ve used AT over other condi removal is when I’ve tested builds with the Manipulations traits. The only way I see AT being better in a general sense is for niche situations where you know you can steal a long stab from Lich/Guardian or a Warrior’s elite skill.
