GWAMM & CotG
[HERO] – Star Leader – Black Gate

Since the devs have confirmed that there was no changes to Berserker damage post Nov 15th LoS changes, then why are we still seeing consistently much lower damage in the range of low ~700 on crit to sub 2k on crit? The Phantasmal Berserker is still showing inconsistency with its overall attack damage in patch 12/14 compare to its state prior to Nov 15th patch that LoS fix unintentionally introduced this bug.
Before the Nov 15th patch. The Berserker was consistently doing damage in between the range of 2.9k ~ 4k on crit to enemies along its path. The spec for my mesmer remains the same throughout the whole process of changes. My Mesmer has ~3k attack, 58% crit chance, and +50% crit damage. The Berserker does not reliably lands 4 hits on tested stationary golems in Heart of the Mist. The missing attacks occur in both of its initial and subsequent attacks on tested stationary golems along its AoE travel path. The output damage by Berserker is at a loss of 50-75%.
I’ve spent well over 1,300 hours in actual play time on the Mesmer profession since Aug 25th headstart, so I know even the slightest changes to our illusions behavior. The delay introduced post Dec 03 patch was fixed, but 0.25s is still 0.25s too long in PvE due to zero delay in AI response from enemy. If Signet of Illusions is correctly registered to our summoned illusions, it would have helped a bit in their survivability. But that’s not the case, Signet of Illusions isn’t reliable most of the time whenever an illusion is summoned. This makes Mesmer’s attacks based on phantasms unreliable in many different situations in PvE. However, SoI is still a must have staple utility in many various of builds and play style due to “Mesmers rely on illusions in order to accomplish their goals.” as stated by Jonathan Sharp. I can understand the delay for its purpose in PvP so players have a chance to react to summoned phantasms. Balance changes based on PvP perspective is not the best way to go when PvE is also a huge part of the game, and the fact that actual players and artificial intelligence behave so differently.

Just as a tip – Mirror blade first (ensures initial aggro on the created clone) then cast your iBerserker. Also, when the phantasm whirls out of range of the intended mob, it stops hitting (much like any AOE attack). Not sure if that’s your problem, but I haven’t seen any noticeable issues myself that I didn’t expect, meaning you may not always get every hit on a moving target.
Have no clue about the stationary target issue you’re having, though.
Jon Peters mentioned in another post that the issue with Berserker isn’t the hits connecting but an issue with the floating text.
Since Illusion damage doesn’t appear in your combat log the only way to test it would be to get a friend to help you and compare their log to the floating text.
Jon Peters is incorrect.
I tested this over and over in heart of the mists. I could cast a beserker at a light armor target dummy, and between the the initial attack of the beserker + great sword attacks get it to a sliver of health.
On the beserkers second pass, it would completely miss.
If the attack was connecting and the issue was only floating damage numbers, then the second pass would have killed the target dummy. It clearly missed, and did 0 damage.
I have no doubt that there is also a bug with floating combat numbers – but it was easy to see that the beserker was flat out 100% missing.

Post your character details and target details please. All my tests and observations on Berserker have it working great again — all the time. No zero or low damage passes. I routinely get crit passes of 4k+ per target with berserker stats.
And yet there are a number of people witnessing behavior like Vendris’. Something is going on such that some mesmers are fine and others are not. I’m suspecting a subtle obstruction issue peculiar to character parameters such as race, gender, and size; eg. my mesmer is sylvari, female, minimum size.
If you’re making observations on this bug, post your character details. It may show a trend that would help get things fixed.
Could you post your traits? So far you’re the only person I’ve run into who has said the beserker is working. I’d like to try your specific trait set up in HoM against the target dummies.
For the record, I’m an 80th level Male Norn Mesmer. I usually run shattercat (10/30/0/0/30). When I use greatsword I usually run either 20/20/0/0/30 or sometimes 20/0/20/0/30.

I’ve read alot about people reporting there’s a bug about zerkers missing attacks but i’ve been using the new updated zerker for two days now and i’ve never seen it miss a single attack first, second, third run :S Being completely truthful and honest. Not once did it miss for me…. I let the zerker attack and stayed away and watched it do three runs and i repeated that test many times.
The zerker damage counts are of course quite a large range lol but I do enjoy the numbers i see out of it being almost full glass cannon, and berserker gear and whatnot.
It definitely is better than before. I’m not getting the halved damage damage, only the random rolls of regular attack towards highest crit.
So for fun I went to HoM, and stood in the same spot killing the light armor target dummy with nothing but my illusionary beserker. My trait setup is 20/20/0/0/30, with phantasms have fury and +15% illusion damage. I’m using divinity runes, and no sigil on my sword. The only source of damage is the beserker’s attack, and the bleed stacks.
For my methodology, I cast illusionary beserker, then just waited until the target dummy was destroyed, counting the number of passes the beserker had to make to kill it.
4,4,3,3,3,5,6,4,3,6
During the two times that took 6 passes, I clearly saw the beserker completely miss on a pass, doinkittenage, without the health bar moving a single pixel.
I’ve tried it using a variety of builds. My typical is x/30/0/10/5 at a minimum. I’I can recall using 0/30/0/10/30, 10/30/0/15/15, and my old standby of 20/30/0/15/5. I always have fury for clones. Sometimes 15% damage & sometimes cripple on kill.
I do find it interesting you have a Norn. If it’s an extra large Norn, that would pique my curiosity even more about large v. small mesmers and the berserker.
