(edited by Temariah.9372)
There’s an amazing thread in the Necromancer forum where bugs are posted relating to their class. They’ve gotten feedback about the thread, and Anet has stated that they think it’s a valuable resource to keep up with the bugs.
I’m willing to put in the effort to update a bug list several times a day, if you are willing to post and detail the bugs you find for Mesmers. (please note, mesmers only, no racial stuff here).
If you have a bug, (or a tooltip error) please provide the topic, a brief description, and a screenshot if possible.
MECHANICAL BUGS
—————
WEAPON SKILLS
Phase Retreat (Staff #2)
— Occasionally blinks you to a point where you cannot normally go, or normally leave, such as inside terrain.
Staff Clones
— They use an outdated version of Winds of Chaos, which paths along the ground, and has a different bleed duration.
Illusionary Leap (Sword #3)
— Very unreliable near the maximum range.
— Sometimes the clone will not spawn, even if you are near the target.
Swap (Sword #3 Chain 2)
— If your clone runs into a wall while chasing an enemy, you can sometimes swap and be stuck within said wall.
Illusionary Riposte (Sword #4)
— Not receiving the effects from Illusionist’s Celerity (Illusions Adept Minor)
~~ The tooltip shows properly, but the the CD is not effected.
Temporal Curtain (Focus #4)
— If you already have any swiftness applied, the curtain will not properly adjust duration.
The Prestige (Torch #4)
— Can be cancelled during its channel, allowing it to render most of the effects of the spell while only putting it on a 4 second cooldown.
Phantasmal Duelist (Pistol #4)
— Bugged in regards to Phantasmal Healing in that it generates the Regen every 3 seconds rather than 6 like other phantasms.
Magic Bullet (Pistol #5)
— Sometimes the projectile vanishes and does nothing.
UTILITY
Phantasmal Disenchanter
— Spawns in melee range of the target.
Decoy
— Occasionally will not stealth.
Veil
— Only provides a 2 second stealth. The tooltip indicates a 4 second stealth.
Arcane Thievery
— Frequently does not steal boons/transfer condition properly.
Signet of Inspiration
— It does not grant its Passive effect until 10 seconds of being in combat.
Signet of Illusions
— It does not increase the health of illusions until several seconds after they are summoned.
— Increases illusion health by 200% although the tooltip says 50%.
TRAITS
Blade Training (Dueling Trait IV)
— Only affects Spear abilities and Blurred Frenzy.
Deceptive Evasion (Dueling Trait X)
— The clones spawned in this way do not attack your target, as all other clones do. They randomly attack a nearby (the nearest?) target.
Phantasmal Healing (Inspiration Master Minor trait)
— The heal does not proc until 6 seconds after the phantasm is summoned, or longer if they have another buff on summoning, such as fury.
— The regen tick cancels out fury, making it cease to refresh.
Temporal Enchanter (Inspiration Trait IX)
— It is either bugged or the tooltips are incorrect for Glamours. With Temporal Enchanter active the field lasts as long as the tooltips say by default and without it they end faster then what the tooltips say by default.
Phantasmal Strength (Inspiration Grandmaster Minor Trait)
— Does not stack with other percentage based illusion damage increases.
Far-Reaching Manipulations (Illusions Trait I)
— Reduces the CD of Arcane Thievery to 40s from 45.
Confusing Combatants (Illusions Grandmaster Minor Trait)
— Clones inflict confusion when killed. Phantasms do not. The description specifies illusions.
Phantasmal Haste (Illusions Trait X)
—It does not effect some phantasms. Warlock and Disenchanter being at least two.
TOOLTIP ERRORS
—————
Chaotic Dampening (Chaos Trait X)
— Changes the bleed duration on Winds of Chaos from 7s to 5s. Does not affect the actual duration.
Masterful Reflection (Illusions Trait IV)
— It does not affect Blurred Frenzy, though the tooltip references distortion. (The actual boon icon says “Blur”)
— Also does not affect Blurred Inscriptions
(edited by Temariah.9372)
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Only know of 1 bug right now, if I come across any more I’ll be sure to post them.
Master of Misdirection (Illusions Trait V)
- Doesn’t make confusion from shatters/illusions last 33% longer.
Tested all mesmer confusion skills
(edited by Flame.8096)
Yay! Thank you for posting. I hope we get lots of support and make ArenaNet fix our problems. Please explain how you know this is a bug, or have tested it.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this list more organized as it grows, feel free to post. Let’s keep this thread alive. It’s important stuff!
From a previous poster:
1. “Phantasmal Fury” blocks the Retaliation boon of “Vengeful Images”.
2. “Phantasmal Healing” still does not proc until 6 second after summons instead of at Phantasm spawn.
3. “Deceptive Evasion” has a nasty tendency to not produce a clone because you have randomly fallen out of combat even though you have an enemy target selected.
4. “Temporal Enchanter” is either bugged or the tooltips are incorrect for Glamours. With Temporal Enchanter active the field lasts as long as the tooltips say by default and without it they end faster then what the tooltips say by default.
5. “Phantasmal Haste” does not effect some phantasms. Warlock and Disenchanter being at least two.
6. “Masterful Reflection” does not proc off of Main Hand Sword #2 nor the effect from the trait “Blurred Inscriptions”.
7. “Signet of Inspiration” does not grant its Passive effect until 10 seconds of being in combat. In beta this passive effect was always active like other signet passives effects.
8. “Phantasmal Duelist” is bugged in regards to “Phantasmal Healing” in that it generates the Regen every 3 seconds rather than 6 like other phantasms.
9. Main hand sword’s clone summons is set to 600, rather than the 1200 other clone summons have. Swap is correctly set to 600.
10. This one I don’t know if it is a bug or intended … but when the change occurred so that range checks were made on clone/phantasm creation … players were also given the ability to evade our ability to summon said clone/phantasm. If our clones/phantasms couldn’t be countered by walking away, being killed, or CCed I would guess intended … but given that this is not the case I just had to ask.
Append:
11. Underwater Downed 2 skill will lock the Mesmer in place until they either Rally or Die.
12. Illusionary Riposte (sword’s off hand) is not receiving some traits effects.
Illusionists Celerity (Illusion) changes only the tooltip recharge time, it still takes 15s to recharge. Also, Blade Training (Duelist) doesn’t change anything.
Both traits works with Phantasmal Swordsman, but Blade training doesn’t change the tooltip.
13. Adding Signet of Illusion (Passive) to the bug list. The detail report and screenshot are in this link https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-Skill-Signet-of-Illusions-bug-Passive/first#post37560
This bug is confirmed by many other players.
14. Trait – Chaotic Dampening. “+50 toughness while wielding a staff or trident. Reduces recharge of staff skills by 20%.” There is a bug that causes the bleed duration of Winds of Chaos (Staff #1 skill) to get reduced by 20% from original 7s down to 5s. Other conditions duration seems not effected but since they have much shorter duration range from 1-3 secs, it’s harder to identify if those are also effected by the reduction of 20% duration bug. The trait’s 20% reduction in staff skills does reduce all staff skill’s recharge time correctly by 20% (x 0.8) from original skill recharge time.
This bug is also confirmed by other players.
15. “Illusionary Leap” (MH-sword’s clone ability) seems to be very inconsistent past around 300 range or so, especially any time you are in unusual terrain. Certainly at the edge of its 600 range, I’ve rarely seen it work… by which I mean no clone, no cripple, no swap option. Has anyone else had this experience?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this list more organized as it grows, feel free to post. Let’s keep this thread alive. It’s important stuff!
I recommend the following sections:
1. Tooltip errors.
2. Technical bugs.
3. Not working as intended (not bugged, but not really fitting the spirit of the design).
Back in Rift, we found it best to keep the thread limited to class mechanic bugs and tooltip errors. We had very good feedback from the developers this way.
Just went to go test Master of misdirection again to be sure.
It seems that all sources of confusion that your character inflicts from its skills/certain traits (Blinding Befuddlement) are extended, but those from shatters/illusions are not.
I would think that atleast cry of frustration should have confusion extended.
Edit:
Also thought of another, not sure if it’s a bug or not though.
Deceptive Evasion
- Sometimes summons clones that attack enemies besides the one you have targeted.
- Not sure how it happens, but it seems that just dodging with more than 1 enemy attacking you may make the clone target a different enemy.
- Most, if not all clones attack whichever target you had selected when it was summoned.
(edited by Flame.8096)
Temporal Curtain
— The Swiftness boon should replace shorter-duration Swiftness boons. Currently, nothing is applied if you already have Swiftness, even if there’s only 1 second left.
Illusionary Leap
- somtimes the Illusion doesn’t spawn, even while standing right next to the target
- The Illusion doesn’t leap and just stands still
Magic Bullet
- projectile vanishes and does nothing
If I think about it, there seems to be a problem with all the Illusion spawns on max range. Either the range indicator doesn’t update in time or the indicator and skills have different range checks.

Alright, so you’re saying Master of Misdirection is not a bug? I’ll delete it, thanks for testing.

It IS a bug, or atleast seems like a bug, just only for some skills. The ones I noticed it not working with were: Phantasmal mage, Illusionary Retribution trait, and Cry of Frustration, which are 3 main ways for a mesmer to apply confusion.
(edited by Flame.8096)
Shatters aren’t typically affected by the traits that effect you, I think because the clone is considered to be the one inflicting things, not you. I think this is working as intended, though it does kind of suck. xD
Also, @ thedenofsin, I did not include some of the “bugs” that you brought to the table because I do not feel they are actual bugs. This includes masterful reflection not affecting blurred frenzy (because if you look at the buff icon for blurred frenzy, it is called blur, not distortion, so I think this distinction was made intentionally), and the one about chaotic dampening because it was very badly written and overall did not seem reliable.
The problem with this kind of threads is people is that most of the time is people just asking for the Devs to change something that works as intended.. and they report it as a bug or a glitch just because they’r stupid enough as to not know how to use it..
for example.. Illusionary Leap..
if you want it changed.. this is not the thread for it… that should go into a Suggestion thread not a “bug” thread.. because is not bugged or anything..
i Hope devs dont pay attention to everything you guys complain about.. zzz

The tooltip for blurred frenzy actually says Distortion, so it would be a tooltip bug then I think.
Also just tested chaotic dampening (cause I didn’t understand it either xD).
It seems that putting it on changes the tooltip for the bleeding condition from 7s to 5s, however the condition duration itself is not changed. Doesn’t affect any of the other conditions.
Alright, I’ll list both of these things as tooltip errors.
After some testing it appears mind wracks explosion damage for having 1 illusion vs 3 is backwards. That is: 1 illusion will explode for what it says 3 do, and 3 explode for what it says one does.
Signet of Illusions (passive) needs be added to Utility list of bugs. Detail report with screenshots are posted here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-Skill-Signet-of-Illusions-bug-Passive/first#post37560
Short form: Illusions are not granted the passive buff until after 3-5 seconds delayed.
For the sake of completeness, we should list the Prestige bug.
Weapon Skill
“The Prestige” can be cancelled during its channel, allowing it to render most of the effects of the spell while only putting it on a 4 second cooldown.
Just some feedback:
I’d avoid any language of “seems” and “might” or anything similar. It either is or it isn’t, and if you can’t duplicate the problem or pin down the source, it shouldn’t be in the main post and needs to be pruned till more work can be done on it. Maybe have a later section called “Unverified Issues” or “Problems with Unknown Causes” where these can go.
I also don’t see the point in mixing in a confirmed problem in a list of issues that need to be brought to attention. They already know about it and have even acknowledged looking in to it — throwing it in their face again is a waste of time. Nothing wrong with including it in a later post though.
There are very good reasons to include “confirmed” bugs in this thread. First and foremost, this is a thread for all Mesmer bugs, and, as such, should strive to be exhaustive. Second, it will help inform players of the status of Mesmer abilities. Third, it will help reduce redundancy on the forums, as people will be less likely to list the issue if fhey find it listed in this thread.
I’d say bugs should only be moved off the list if they are fixed or identified as WAI “working as intended”

…I think you missed this bolded line.

Phantasmal Disenchanter and Phantasmal Defender see, to have their spawn locations switched.
Defender spawns at range, and Disenchanter spawns in melee.
It makes disenchanter practically worthless in the battles you need it most.
Ok I just tested Confusing Combatants grandmaster trait at Heart of the Mist against Enemy NPCs (not stationary golems), and to my surprise it’s not working as intended.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Confusing_Combatants
“Your illusions cause 3 seconds of confusion when they are killed. "
“Notes: “Killed” means either destroyed by enemy damage or by being overwritten with a newly summoned illusion. "
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Illusion
Illusion: “There are two kinds of illusions: clones and phantasms.”
I thoroughly tested Confusing Combatant using sword, pistol, and staff illusion summoning skills. Only clones do apply confusion when it’s killed but phantasms are not effected by this trait.
(edited by Mystiq Angelic.8193)
Thank you for all the feedback. I edited out all of the “seems like” or otherwise unsure sounding lines, as per a suggestion, and I added the Prestige and Confusing Combatants.
Also, please no arguing on this thread. This thread will be an exhaustive resource to keep Anet informed of the bugs we find, as well as keep the playerbase informed of them. I do not believe that we are throwing anything in Anet’s face. We are just trying to make it as easy as possible for them to see bugs, and resolve fixes.

Thanks for compiling the bug list and bring them to awareness by developers.
I don’t see Signet of Illusions added to list yet, and it’s been confirmed by many players that there is an underlying bug in its passive mechanic. I posted the info in a few posts earlier, thank you.
Bug:
Swap: Collision issue — If your clone runs into the wall chasing a mob, you can teleport into the wall and become stuck.
Thanks for letting me know. I kept thinking that my post on signet of inspiration was signet of illusions. But it’s not. Now it’s fixed.
Blade Training does affect Spear skills and Blurred Frenzy, though it does not seem to affect other Sword skills.
Master of Misdirection does affect Confusion from Shatters and Illusionary Retribution. It does not affect Confusion from Confusing Combatants or Illusion-inflicted Confusion, like from iMage.
Phantasmal Defender being conjured out of melee range does not affect its effectiveness. How it works is that whenever you take damage, half of that damage is absorbed by the Defender no matter where it is.
Masterful Reflection Does not affect Blurred Inscriptions either.
Staff Clones use an old version of Winds of Chaos that travels along the contours of the ground. Also, Bleeding inflicted by Staff Clones’s WoC always lasts 5s instead of 7s, unrelated to Chaotic Dampening.
Far-Reaching Manipulations reduces the CD of Arcane Thievery from 45s to 40s.
(edited by Embolism.8106)
Does far reaching manipulations effect the range of Arcane Theivery?
- Updated.

The parts that I listed as a bug were the descriptions of when the clone did not spawn despite a close range (that is NOT how it is meant to work, and therefore a bug of some sort) and that at further ranges (still within the proper range, as shown by the lack of a red bar beneath the skill) it often will not summon the clone. These are not problems with users being fat-fingered. These are problems with the skill not doing what it proclaims to do.
Far-Reaching Manipulations increases range by 300 as it should.
Oh, and Chaotic Dampening on WoC Bleeding is not a tooltip anomaly, it is a real nerf. Your Bleeding really do only last 5s.
I posted this in another thread but I want to make sure all this kind of stuff gets seen to
I noticed from a screen shot i took that clones don’t actually show the off hand weapon even when you do have one equip to your character. here’s the screenshot
*Arcane Thievery – Unsure if it is just me/wrong tooltip but I have use this many times on players with multiple boons, and only recieved 1-2 if any of the boons I have tried stealing. Also it does not seem to give the target all of the conditions that are currently on myself.
Does this ability trade conditions for boons 1-1 ?.
*Blind prevents clones/phantams from spawning – bug? or as intended
*Veil – Only applies a 2second stealth not 4seconds as tooltip indicates.
*Decoy – The invisibility applied does not seem to always work, and you can still be attacked by direct damage/channeled attacks.
*Torch – Phantasmal Mage – Damage seems to be incredibly low apposed to other phantasms – 500 ish crits with phantasm damage traits, with a long cast time and weak confusion.
*Mind Stab – Damage seems to miss some times even on immobilized targets – Prehaps a trait to make it ground target or much larget radius, as it can be very difficult to use still even with the change while playing on a high ping (Australia)

Where did you test these?
I just went and tested these in heart of the mists again to be sure. (tested them in pve before that)
Winds of Chaos lasted 7s against the target golem, even with Chaotic Dampening
I did make a mistake in that Illusionary Retribution does get its confusion extended, but cry of frustation (the only shatter that causes confusion without traits) still did not.
I also made sure to not have any traits on besides the ones that were necessary for testing, to make sure there were no conflicts.
A couple of corrections for the OP
-Blade Training DOES work with everything except Illusionary Riposte & Illusionary Leap, possibly due to their dual activation nature, it just doesn’t reflect on the tooltip for Phantasmal Swordsman.
-Deception (Drowning #2) was fixed last night per the patch notes (I haven’t been in a position to test this).
-Please clarify the line about Phantasms not receiving multiple ‘buffs’. Indicate that the error is actually with Phantasmal Healing & Vengeful Images not stacking as it currently appears to indicate that they can just have 1 boon at a time no matter what from any source, this isn’t true.
—Also reference that these skills will stop refreshing once Phantasmal Healing ticks initially. Pretty much all of the Phantasm Boon traits conflict horribly, the Inspiration path is crap now.

You are right about Chaotic Dampening, but not about Cry of Frustration. Master of Misdirection does increase CoF’s Confusion duration.
I did, however, find another bug: CoF’s Confusion only lasts 3s, not the 4s the tooltip says.
For some reason I can’t edit my post right now. I will update it as soon as I can (going to bed soon, so I’ll check in the morning). Please keep posting.
EDIT: My ability to edit just fixed itself. Updating~

I don’t consider this a bug. Here’s why: clones only do one attack that is based off of your main hand weapon. It might be an aesthetic thing, but it does not affect gameplay in any way. Thanks for posting.

I added Arcane Thievery as I have noticed a similar use error.
Since blind makes your next attack miss, our targeted spells (yes this includes illusion summoning skills) will miss, just as though the target had evaded.
Added Veil, thanks.
Though you are invisible, yes you can still take damage from basically all sources, except for directly targeted ranged projectiles.
Torch is already listed as bugged.
Mind Stab should be fixed as of the patch last night. If you could test it for confirmation, that’d be great.

Thanks for the update. I’ll personally test the sword stuffies, since I do use sword MH.
If you (or anyone else) could take the time to test the drowning #2 that’d be wonderful.
I’ll fix my phrasing with the phantasm buffs, thanks.
Drowning #2 confirmed working. I can move!
Thedenofsin.7340I think you failed to understand my post. It belongs at the top of this thread.
I did. I apologize.
Signet of Illusions is still granting +200% health to all phantasms and clones.
Drowning #2 confirmed working. I can move!
Thanks for testing, it’s edited.
- Empowered Illusions (Domination 10) 15% illusion damage and Phantasmal Strength (Inspiration 25) 15% phantasm damage : Traits do not stack, pick one or both it wont change damage.
- Global inconsistency in cooldowns once u apply cooldown reductions, some cooldowns gets reduced too much and some gets increased lol (I need to redo testings to list skills affected)
- Decoy not working u still get damaged from attacks although u shouldnt be targetable anymore, half the time u dont even enter stealth mode to begin with.
Signet of Illusions is still granting +200% health to all phantasms and clones.
Can we test this in any way? I use the signet and I feel uncertain since we don’t see HP values for illusions.
I did my testing in the training part of the PvP lobby. The mobs that are in the control points hit very weakly and are good for estimating phantasm and clone health.
