Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
I know it sounds outrageous, and thus why I ask out of simple curiosity.
I wanna use Sword/Sword, but I also wanna use the offhand Focus without having to resort to the Scepter (For PvP)
My question is this; is there any benefit to having the same weapon (or in this case, three of the same weapon) in both weapon slots? My mind tells me no, but who listens to logic nowadays?
-Also, could we forge a decent build out of Sw/Sw-Sc/Focus? (I would go Sword-Focus/Scepter-Sword, but I like the aesthetics of two swords too much)
Well sw/sw scepter/focus is easily viable.. I wouldn’t use the sword mainhand for both sets even with the reduction trait unless you like trying to chase people around with a 130 range slow skill for 8 seconds.. I mean it could work but there really isn’t any reason not to take scepter as the other main and keep pulling some dps out in between your frenzy CDs(which match well with swap cd).
On the off-chance that you haven’t actually gone out and tried it out (you probably have, but I didn’t discover this til I tried the same idea with a Scepter for confusion stacks), you should know that both MH Swords will share cooldowns – they don’t refresh when you swap, so you’re basically swapping OH items with a static cooldown on your MH.
It might be viable, but I think you’re probably shooting yourself in the foot w/ respect to potential utility from another full weapon set.
I tried running sword torch Sword pistol once..
It was okay.. I guess.
S/p Staff is just stronger Phase retreat is super strong and you know you’ll have some evade when you switch weapons instead of being on cd for blurred frenzy.. much more defensive. Chaos storm and chaos armor is …really really strong too.. can get stacks of protection regen.. etc.. very nice.
Problem is that the cooldowns are shared for your mainhand between both swaps, so you’re not really helping yourself much. Making the Blade Training trait more pervasive hits the brick wall of Sword3 being bugged (and IIRC Sword4 is also still bugged) to ignore the traited cooldown.
Sword1 is nothing particularly special, so it seems to limit yourself with no benefit except aesthetics.

Sw/sw sept/foc? If he really wants the sw/sw aesthetic, having blocks on each set is nice, but there’s just so much synergy between the MH sword and focus with curtain and iLeap, it’s hard not wanting to go sw/foc scept/sw. Scepter really needs a combo field or finisher to keep up the sw/foc combo. I’d have to play around with the skill flow to see if I’d really consider it the other way around.

Naw I would not take this setup in a million years personally lol.. If I was to use these 4 weapons it would be like you said sw/foc scept/sw.. But he specifically said he wants sw/sw(aesthetic) and a focus offhand on the other set… Merely pointing out that taking a Scepter as the second main is WAY better then using sword main on both sets.
Scepter is so bad that it doesn’t matter that the cooldowns aren’t refreshed on the MH sword.

Good luck running Sw/Sw/Sw/Fo.

Scepter is not bad. Go read the “scepter opinion” thread zzz
I think Sword+Focus (or Pistol)/Scepter+Sword is perfect for a hybrid shantasm build. Depending on the weapon set, the gameplay changes drastically (in theory). I’ve been very interested in developing a Sword+Offhand/Scepter+Offhand build for my mesmer just because of its uniqueness. Perhaps its versatility is underestimated at the moment.

Sword/Pistol Scepter/Sword is very good in a phantasm focused power/crit build. It’s what I’m currently running as of the last couple days and it is a blast.
