4th can probably get you out of a bad spot, though, if used wisely. Really like the descriptions. Do they have names for all of them?
Dom: Amazing for lockdown builds. Gotta give up CI or DE though
Dueling: No icd: god yes in zergs.
Chaos: Really cool and unique. Could be very very good for the build im playing. Diversion is fury also ^^
Inspir: um, maybe?
Illusion: Depends on length and how much. Unsure

This guy has been discussed to death, back to life, and to death again already.
- Dueling: Get 3s of distortion after killing a foe.
I need information about the internal cooldown before I can make a judgement here.
- Chaos: Grant boons on shatter activation (F1: 3s Retaliation, F2: 15s Might(x3), F3: (forgot it but i think it was vigor), F4: 8s regeneration)
My initial reaction is that it’s total crap. Retaliation is easily obtained through many means for mesmer, we don’t need a grandmaster for that. 3 Might for 15s is nice…but not particularly impressive. Vigor? We’ve already got vigor, and I’m not gonna waste an interrupt for vigor, nor save it for when vigor might be useful. We fart regeneration more than any other class besides maybe guardians, we don’t need that.
- Inspiration: +1000 healing power after interrupt (4s)
I fail to see how this is helpful at all. Just file it under ‘useless inspiration grandmaster traits’ with the other 2.
- Illusions: Torment on Shatter hits (no values confirmed)
Gonna need more information on this one.

Chaos – Better to take PU
Inspire – Useless
Illusion – Depends
Dom : Good for PvP
Dueling : Good for WvW
Chaos : Interesting in all modes
Inspiration : Would be better if Restorative Illusions was in master, so it would be viable. Beside that, meh.
Illusion : Good for condi.

It’s actually Fury on Diversion, so it can be used in combination with vulnerability from dom line for some shatter spike. Add some might from mind wrack and bountiful interruption…
As for me, I think ele’s and guardian’s traits are more creative. Mesmer ones are just… plain.

Chaos, Insp and Illusions are terribad. They’re all in the worst possible spots for their functionality.
Chaos: the condition and arguably secondary interrupt line, gets boons on shattering (2 of which are already in Illusions).
Inspiration: Clusterkitten of functionality. Buff phantasms, glamours, mantras, reflects, supportive shatter and now supportive interrupts! Yay, still not touching this line for pvp.
Illusions: 30 into the shatter line for 1 condition. I won’t say anymore on this one, lol.
Looking at this from a tPvP meta perspective…
Nothing here is worth grabbing over what we already have. You have to give up too much for powerblock. The chaos trait is inferior to CI or PU. The illusions trait is inferior to iPersona.
Shatter remains the superior spec, which is inferior to many of the current OP meta builds that were untouched, as well as a few of the other classes that got something new they can work in. Added with the fact that all we got was some meta-unrelated bug fixes, Mesmer is the new bottom of the bunch in the meta.

I’m really disapointed. With the vigor and crit dmg nerf, there’s nothing left for power shatter mesmers. Depressing.
I still run shatter in WvW. Hopefully there will be some changes to Rune of the Traveler. The 15% boon duration will most likely be toned down (See Rune of monk) but the 4th condition duration might get buffed idk. Also, Rune of Air + Sigil stacking on GS might be nice. Other than that, Yeah can’t say I’m happy about the changes :/

For 4 seconds. I can guarantee you it doesn’t stack in either duration or power. So how is that going to help you? It’s nearly useless in PvE as always, and in PvP you can’t reliably apply aoe healing right after an interrupt like that, and healing power sucks anyway because everything except regen scales horridly with it.

great the only thng i could use is the interrupt one…but the rest is useless again stupid chatter illusion kitten. no help for wvw raid mesmers. seriously kitten mesmer in wvw lets just all roll ele, war or guard…
Meh. I expected something interesting. Torment on shatters sounds nice but I can’t really justify going full illusions on a cond dmg spec.
In general I find the new grandmaster traits rather lacklustre and underwhelming. The only two I would even consider are the first two.
My preference at the moment lies with the Dueling trait, but this depends if it can stack, which it should as Mesmer’s aren’t generally know for taking down multiple foe down quickly. Also, I’d like to know what the definition of “Killing a foe” actually translates to, because when using sigils that give +power or +precision on kill I wasn’t getting credit for the majority of kills I contributed to in WvW zergs. So I’m not sure how reliable this trait would be.

I’m actually liking the sound of the illusions one, because it definitely opens the door to shatter condie specs. I’m just witholding judgement until I get info on stack number and duration.
I hate ‘on interrupt traits’… but not because of traits themselves, but because IMO we have not enough reliable interrupt skills. Only Mantra of Distraction, Diversion (in some cases) and Into the Void could be trusted. Everything else is ‘press and pray’.
In My Opinion:
Domination: Cool Lock down builds buffs~ To bad max domination still feels bland.
Dueling: Awesome in a team fight. but what’s the point? Phant wouldn’t go this far (they get their own trait anyways), PU wouldn’t bother, Interupt and Mantra have better options, and Shatter? Lol ok yeah but they give up vulnerability on diversion and boon strip on shatter. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.
Chaos: Loses out to PU… maybe some kind of tanky shatter spec could use this but you lose more than you gain.
Inspiration: Not sure if I’d ever take it, but hey now phantasm has access to a trait that gives them more survivability… lovely. More low risk/high reward builds.
Illusions: Condi shatter will have a great time with this, I think even normal shatter can utalize this but until we see numbers I’m doubtful it’ll be better than iPersona.

I cant go into much detail on my horribad cellphone, if it doesnt stack in any kinda way its garb, but if it does? Itll look like my entire team has healing signet. =P

and i persona is a 30 into illusions trait.gg! imo shatters should work without illusions anyways if shatters are already f1-f4… seriously.

yeah we already have distortion. and honestly u will need distortion when they are alive. the only thing that is good is the interrupt thing…everything else i dont see yet…. also if u compare it with other classes……i mean ele gets blind like we used to have blinding befuddlement, but ours has an icd, which they dont…etc….i dont think our gm traits are good appart from one. the other ones i have to test first but they dont make me viable in wvw raids yet….

Domination: GREAT! Speaks for itself. Won’t make or break interrupt builds. If you’re a good lockdown mesmer, this is just the icing on the cake. Will likely drum up interest in interrupt builds over AI builds.
Dueling: This could be clutch in some pvp matches. I could see it being particularly useful in wvw zergs.
Chaos: Good synergy for interrupt shatter builds. x/x/30/x/30 with Diversion/Bountiful Interruptions/Cry Of Frustration. Pop a Signet of Inspiration to share the wealth. :P Outside of that, Mesmers can get most of those boons in other ways (outside of Fury).
Inspiration: sigh no comment. A better trait would have been if Distorted clones also hit allies, causing them to become invulnerable as well.
Illusions: Really cool! Shatters are inherently supposed to do a lot of condition dmg considering the trait line boost condition dmg soooo…about time?! I could see this wrecking faces in wvw.
Overall, very happy with the changes. I’m still kittened that they haven’t hot fixed bugs that cripple some skills such as iwarden & phantasmal haste, but at least they WILL finally be fixed.
Im thinking that Dueling GM will have some niche uses in PvE. The biggest use being for things like say, Collosus or Dredge where bodies fall by the heaploads, making your basically immortal.
The main concern for me with all this is that most of those just don’t seem to have any use for PvE.
Condi shatter is really old, a long time ago back before the confusion nerf/“normalization” in WvW it was more popular than power since it hit tremendously hard and scaled well with traits. You can see it in action here
This Illusions trait just fills the gap where confusion shatter once was many moons past. Unfortunately it’s a weaker pastiche, torment is not nearly as potent and you lose IP to boot (old confusion specs ran pretty much the same spread as power shatter).
If I could wave a magic wand I would just give confusion back to Mesmers and leave everything as is, but alas.
I think for build diversity a lot of these would be better and not completely OP as “Master” traits except maybe Domination.

I fail to see how. Shatter is horrible in PvE even in a full damage build, and if you’re 30 in chaos you won’t be doing much shatter damage. Basically, running that trait and 30 in chaos in PvE would make you contribute literally nothing to a party. No support, no damage, no nothing, just dead weight.

Charzooka Mesmer with multiple aoe interrupts is already fun.
Rocket Spray 2½ (8s cooldown) Knockback foes with a spread of rockets.
Rocket Jump ¼ (12s cooldown) Blast the ground, damaging and knocking down nearby foes and leaping backwards.
Overall, I’m not terribly impressed.
Instead of getting anything that opens up new play styles, we get more of the same.
More shatter and more interrupt. woooo
Some re enforcement of existing play styles is fine, but not all of them.
Dom I’m fine with, as is Dueling and Illusions.
But Chaos and Inspiration, wtf?
Chaos competes directly with PU, and doesn’t sound very effective even at the best of times. It’ll stick with PU thank you.
And Inspiration is completely out of left field, as if that trait line didn’t have enough problems. They would have been better off with something that played into Phantasms, but no, increase the most useless stat in the game. Thanks Anet.

Sadly that’s exatly how it is like.
I would have loved some traits that are worth the 30/6 traitpoints you invest. Chaos, Dueling and Inspiration seem like traits where anet did not know what to do. I think they should just create a thread for suggestions before they choose things like that as grandmaster.
IMO grandmaster traits should be the center of a build like pu, ip and em are. at least inspiration and chaos are not worth taking. never. Chaos is always weaker than pu and inspiration does not have any useful grandmaster traits.
The Inspiration trait was praised for being good to use with Restorative Mantras what heals 2,600 HP and scales with 0.2 … 0.2 -.-
Heal with new inspiration gradmastertrait: 2.600+0.2*1300=2860… I’d NEVER spend 30/6 points for 260 healthpoints more after a heal! NEVER! The next problem with this trait is that NO interrupt build would EVER spend so many points into inspiration. It’s just not viable enough.
Even if this effect would stack — you won’t be able to interrupt more than 5 people with one skill. I’d force you to take either the F3-AoE trait or fokus+gs.
Even if it’d stack: The next problem is that even 5000 healingpower wouldn’t be good enough to support a team.

im sry but it shows clearly again that anet has not spent enough time on the mesmer gm traits… the healing power on interrupt shows this clearly….i mean how would we ever use such a thing? this is so not mesmer that it screams oh this was supposed to be for ele, but oh well we got nothing for the mes, lets give them this….
this trait is useless. the only good one is the interrupt one and mayyyyyybe the shatter one…
so thats it we get bug fixes and that why we are not allowed to get decent traits like other classes. they dont even care about the wvw mesmer at all. they see the 1v1 hotjoin mes and fix according to that. they dont even understand anything about the mesmers traitline…..i mean how can they think this gm trait was useful fo a mesmer?!?!
I just hope this distortion actually get the reflect from the trait, then it’ll be useful for one of my builds…
