Zabroshan – 80 Guardian / Sorroe – 80 Mesmer
Hands Off My Octopus
PvE mobs die quickly and can’t kill me.
PvP enemies die quickly and can’t kill me.
How about a video, oh the almighty? Because, sorry, I don’t believe you. Well, actually the PvP part could sound plausible, say, 3 weeks ago. But as for PvE you’re just flat out lying here, m8.
No…he isn’t. You’re doing it wrong to be honest.
Yeah, you’re doing it wrong prodigy. How dare you question them and ask for proof. It works great in areas like Queensdale, Caledon forest, Plains of Ashford, etc… with your lvl 80 mesmer. PvE goes down quick. I see Crewthief and Ross soloing those areas all the time.
Why does the guardian get split PvE/PvP skills and the mesmer don’t? Because there are plenty of builds (all of 2 builds (shatter and shatter) and soon only to include only scepter + GS builds) that works and Mesmer get plenty of loot; that is until you play another class like engineer and realize how much loot you are missing out on. But I do plenty of AOE damage with my berzerker, warden, shatter, etc. I just have to wait until they come off CD (which I use the time in between to make me a sandwich, goto work, sleep then come back) and only if the mob doesn’t die before they have a chance to tag/attack, and only if they don’t get one hit before they attack. But it’s all about timing (coming in and finishing off the mobs while they have low health as they are being damaged by the warrior’s ‘spin to win’ combo) and having the apm of a starcraft 2 player all the while doing just average so I can look down on other classes.
You’re both very strange. You act as if we don’t have weapon swap, as if PvE was not butter and we a hot knife. You also act as if any proof shown will be immediately dismissed, ridiculed while you shout LALALALALALALA with your fingers plugging your ears.
Of course the GS has CDs…. like every other weapon and class…… minus thief of course.
So.. when you use… your GS… and…things are… on CD…. you swap… to another weapon….
I may have found the reason why you two flounder outside of classes who AoE by auto attacking!!
Now, because ‘proof’ was called lets do a quick two minute Youtube search…
Here we go, not that hard. I don’t use his traits or his weapons but I get the same results: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDpEbcBoWkA&list=UU6sT4OtSRN_tBCa7xPhC3gw&index=1&feature=plcp
Yes, yes, he did not face tank while blowing them apart. Pssst… cloth users usually don’t.
Tbh, they probably click their abilities with the mouse.
He doesn’t even participate in an event, he’s just aggroing groups of mobs in orr. How’s that even relevant to what Hoboed is talking about (brilliant post btw).

Basically, that the troll definition of “research” is “annoy other people to do it for them.”
I didn’t realize that Hoboed had actually said anything relevant in his post. Could you explain Iruwen?
Events = bad scaling = AoE = loot, that pretty much sums it up.
Maybe Kanto should better clarify who he meant (“You’re both very strange”).

EasymodeX did say “relevant” here, and Hoboed’s troll-babble isn’t relevant to prodigy’s complaint about mobs dying in general (i.e. not Orr Dynamic Events), which people are now politely telling him is a L2P issue. This is after a couple pages of prodigy insinuating people were liars and demanding proof.
I mean, the objective reality comes down to this:
1. General PvE is easy. Mobs die fast to burst builds. My record is about 2.0 seconds on a level 80 wolf in Frostgorge. Normal is around 2.5-3.0 seconds. Players with less gear should still drop that kitten in less than 6 seconds.
2. Mesmers are comparatively weak at Orr DE farming. Other classes are also weak compared to the big 3.
3. Mesmers can still farm pretty well at Orr DEs using a build/weapon suited for it. Most casual/scrub/inferior Mesmer players are unable or unwilling to play the build/weapons suited for it. That’s their choice, and any whining about the lack of variety is pretty much irrelevant, since other classes also have to, at the very least, use specific weapons to farm efficiently. Protip: that’s the point of a flexible specialization/build system — you can build towards doing something more effectively … like Orr DEs.
Conclusion: Orr DEs should be tuned to scale better with players (e.g. upgraded mobs). As is, Mesmers can still farm ok, and PvE in general is a joke.
Zzzz.

Yeah what Easymode said, basically. The conclusion is not that we are broken, but that PvE DE scaling is when it comes to Zerg combat.
Why would you fix the symptom (us having troubles tagging outside of a specific build) instead of the illness (lack of HP scaling on DE mobs)?
Definitely agree with Carighan and Easymode, but I’d like to go further.
Why not track these metrics:
and add them to the total damage? Given how many ways we engage with enemies, these metrics would be a great addition to marking targets for loot.
Surewhynot.
But upgrading trash -> veteran is first priority.
Tbh I think a fundamental issue is that players don’t group up, and the game does not do much in the way of pushing players to group up. As a result, credit share for simply grouping up is not very effective compared to other games like Warhammer.
Edit:
On second thought, ANet could not copy the WAR or Rift mechanics. The loot we’re talking about drops when the mob dies. In WAR/Rift, the point was influence / renown / credit, which is calculated later. In WAR, the influence was gained by a DPS, and pooled on them. When a healer healed the DPS, they copied/drew from the pooled influence to gain their own influence.
This wouldn’t work with GW2 since you can’t have the mobs drop loot multiple times just because you press the heal button.
Seems like the best solution for GW2 would be “individual tag flag”, “group tag magnitude” … except no one groups, so.
Note: group tag magnitude would be a bad idea because it would make botting super easy (4 afk players and 1 AOE spammer to get 5x loot).

Absolutely. I’m surprised that for all the times Arena Net has said they wanted people to naturally group together, it baffles me that the loot mechanics are still based on damage done. I’d love for the loot to be distributed at the very end, based on contribution, like the big chest after killing The Shatterer.

Okay, since you actually put my name in your paragraph…
Honestly, i’ve yet to have any issues running my Mesmer in PvE, sPvP, or WvW…in spite of the balance patches. To actually assert that Mesmer is “terrible”, is gross exaggeration. We have options, I think at this point Anet is sending a signal loud and clear that the profession is NOT (I know, shocking), a minion master that should simply summon pets and sit back comfortably. Those of us who grasped that concept early on (BWE for me), have excelled with the profession. Those who have failed, and still fail, to grasp that concept…choose instead to whine incessantly on these forums.
So yes, in my experience he, and those like him, are in fact doing it wrong. Sorry
P.S. spawn clones + Illusionary Persona + correct timing in the midst of mob swarm = profit. Add Blurred Frenzy in there, and you’ll be just fine.

More nerfes I see? I relied heavily on Warlock actually, given it was one of my most used skills. Together with the increased cooldown of the number 5 skill I really wonder if I should switch to scepter or perhaps just play an elementalist instead. I am deeply disappointed with how much they nerf our class. Not cool at all Arenanet.

Tbh, they probably click their abilities with the mouse.
Hey hey now….D:
I click with my mouse….or I did. I recently spent obscene monies on a ridiculous Naga Razer Molten Special Edition mouse that has 17 buttons, and a red light that pulses for No Good Reason. I’m trying to “acclimate” myself to it, but according to the official manual, 88% of players will take 18 days to do so. Anyways, for now, I’m much faster clicking my skills then using the mouse, but I’m trying to accilmate and stuff.
Why did I get the mouse? I’ve never PvP’d before, becuase I dont like how it’s been done in other games, and I don’t care for the testerone fueled crowd that considers PvE “nothing” , calls us carebears, and equates kitten with pts and kittenalk. But now, with this game, I’d like to get into it, cus it looks like fun and stuff. I didn’t pick mesmer cus they rule in pvp, its just a happy coincidence.
Anyways, I see these pvp vids of mes and I knew I could be even faster, but my hands just can’t do those ninja moves with hotkeys. With my Mesmer, I’ve been more mobile then ever before in an mmo, but I just cant attack fast and move well with the same hand, so left hand moves, right hand attacks….see how that goes in 18 days.
On topic, I don’t notice the changes much. I main a staff, and alt scepter/focus. I’d rather alt sword/sword cus it’s cool and fun, but im also a tailor, and I like making my own weapons. Instead of crying, I find new ways to implement scepter/focus, and I have to say that more speed to scepter doesn’t hurt, but doesn’t really affect my play either.
In closing, if you’ve read this far, I spy with my little eye two ppl who suck at mesmer.
I play GS – Sword/focus and have ZERO problems getting loot in DE’s and Dungeons unless i’m focused a lot and am forced to move instead of unloading.
My build is half inspiration, so it’s not glass cannon.
I do agree that this game rewards people for being glass cannons in large DE’s at everyone’s expense (in small ones it properly punishes them with perma-down), but otherwise it’s fine.
I still think staff is not balanced correctly, and the nerfs are not helping.
- They should have reduced the duration of chaos storm rather than its cooldown and compensated with a bit of upfront direct damage on the spell.
- They should not have touched the bounces on the staff’s attack. It’s too slow with only a couple targets already, removing it’s “return on investment” on large groups where it shines is not the solution to this issue. Adjusting up the odds of non-damaging effects is.
I have a few things I think might be beneficial to people complaining about the most recent patch. First, even before the nerf in a full condition build staff clones did more damage per second then the i warlock. Second, a lot of people fail to realize that with illusionary persona simply running into a pack of mobs and pressing f1 and f2 will tag most if not all of the mobs. Add in a clone or two to that if you feel the need to be safe. I hope some people will benefit from this knowledge.

You don’t have time to run in orrian DE’s. Most of that pack will be dead before you even get there.

Pretty much this. And with a power/precision/crit dmg build…those shatters hurt. Positioning yourself correctly for the next wave of mobs is also very important.

Why run when you can blink or ileap?
Why run when you can blink or ileap?
Ileap isn’t even an option. Mainly because of cast time and clone leap time(often long – mobs are already dead when you finish it).
That leaves us with tagging 40-50% of wave in dedicated farming party once in 30 seconds.
Surely, tag rate can be improved if you know exact spawn locations.
But I won’t spend a single silver for retraiting each time I feel like plinx farm.
