I don’t do it for the easy fights or lack if skill. I do it cuz the build feels fun.
I used to play shatter and it just felt kinda boring.

But even when I put the traits into making those phantasms hit like a truck I feel dirty and I hear laughter, coming from deep underground.

I’m 99% sure that what spec you enjoy playing in a video has no reflection on whether you’re a scumbag or not.
Although finding shatter a boring play style? You could be a mad man though.

veil and torch is the line :P if you use both then you are scumbag .

Playing pu = afking at spawn.. You have almost no impact on the game.. but are very proud that you didnt die in a fight.

Besides, PU is hardly worthwhile in any regard. You can just ignore it and run away none the worse.

The main thing is.. 90 percent of the people who pvp play vs a lvl of people that it dosent matter what spec you play. you dont have to min max as a 90% tpvp/solo queue player.. or someone in hotjoin.. you could randomly throw trait points around and it wouldnt matter that much. most forum conversations are about min maxing which matters 0 to the majority of pvprs.

How bout as a top 80 solo queue, top 200 soloing team queue player? That’s the level that I maintained when I bothered to play PvP, and I maintained it playing almost exclusively PU conditions.

PU in no way helps you kill or take objectives in a pvp match. It helps you bunker mistakes. I am not saying you needed to play PU because you were making mistakes.. Just saying you could have moved those points from PU to something more offensive and been more useful with almost the same spec. I play a spec that is condi atm and im 100 solo q. I could easily fit PU into my build.. But it would cost me damage and i would rather just play better and kill faster then face tank more and kill slower.

PU allows me to sustain and maintain outnumbered fights to get a numbers advantage for my team on the rest of the map. Additionally, it gives me the defense to sustain myself in the middle of a team fight on a point, allowing for potent condition spread on dangerous targets. Additionally, PU isn’t necessary for fighting a 1v1, and that allows me to hold a point against a solo player easily, while having the capability to change my style defensively into PU if multiple people are sent at me.

It’s a very strong build…you just have to use your brain a little and think about what advantages it can provide if used properly.

I’m not the one that made a post full of ad hominem attacks. I used actual reasoning and made some solid points that you neglected to actually discuss.

Don’t be silly, of course not. I’m guilty of making fun of Mesmers who use PU, but it’s an effective build and a force to be reckoned with. Ignore the real scumbags like me and enjoy playing the game!!

As a mainly wvw player I don’t think PU builds are anything special after running into:
D/P Shadow Arts thieves, P/D condi thieves, S/D evade spam thieves, Meditation guardians, Terror necromancers, BM power/condi rangers, tanky D/D elementalists, etc.

And also non-build specific nuisances such as: longbow rangers, condi engineers, “nike” warriors, guardians/warriors in full soldier gear.

Anyways, the point is I play whatever I feel like playing because that’s pretty much what everyone else is doing.

The tools are in the box for a reason. Use what u want when you want. Using a stick of dynamite to remove a picture works. Unless you like playing click the way point after your dead.

I dont think youre a scumbag, haha. PU is great for survival in wvw. As far as team play goes though i feel like taking PU benefits yourself more than your team which, depending on your opinions is selfish. But i guess if your team wants someone to take on more of a roaming role, securing stomps and keeping people preoccupied then its okay… maybe.

But PU is inferior to other builds in tpvp,cause you cant capture node with stealth.And even tho PU ppl say it is very good bunkering,you need to ask yourself,if you really want to bunker,so why mesmer? take guard.better tanking.That is not the role mesmers should fill.

PU mesmer is fine especially with the latest changes. Condi tends to be the biggest threat to this spec.

people.. even mesmers dislike pu because you can run 100 percent stealth uptime and casting phantasms/clones does not break stealth. so you are just stealthing over and over dodge rolling and casting phantasms.. it isnt even really pvp. Im sure there are pu specs that are less abusive then this. but these are the people who give mesmers over all a bad name.

If you run decoy/torch/veil mass invis. i dont consider you a person who pvps. Yes you are unkillable.. but you also do not help in tpvp unless you can trick some idiot into trying to kill you.

As far as you playing and having fun.. go nuts.. its a game.. go have fun play whatever cornball spec you want.. run naked blah blah.. but if you show up on my solo q or tpvp q with that spec i personally would rather have any other person in your place.

Mesmer is a single target profession. We don’t have a lot of AOE’s and pretty much most of our skills require a target to work. Stealth breaks target, so its always an ongoing battle to require target. Against thieves this is not too bad. Since there is only the thief, but the really good thieves don’t give you much time between stealth’s.

In a PU Mesmer, not only is the mesmer constantly breaking target. He’s leaving behind a whole army of dummy targets, that you have to wade thru to reacquire the real thing. This is why people(and other Mesmers) hate fighting them. Its not that the AI are doing all the work. Its that your constantly trying to find the real mesmer from the forest. At least with a thief, you can quickly retarget. In either case, it makes for frustrating gameplay. It makes life easy for the PU Mesmer, but its not fun against it.

So for me, a PU Mesmer is nothing more than a “thief-wanna-be”.

Unfortunately, the way ANet is taking the mesmer(and combat) in this game. You “do what you have to do” to survive.

Yes,it is a bit harsh,but it is true.PU dosnt offer nothing to the team,it is a solo roaming build.You might want shatter build with boon removal or lockdown for control,not “bunkering” pu mesmer.
One thing he is wrong tho,PU mesmers can be very annoying if they have gs.So idiot or not,you will be bound to fight them.

100% stealth uptime? This is FALSE. having 100% uptime would mean staying perma invisible.

Unkillable? This is FALSE. Fighting against PU is really hard. But to say it’s unkillable is an l2p issue.

PU is giving mesmers a bad name. Again This IS FALSE. Mesmers who bash fellow mesmers is what is giving us a bad name.
